[Pre Order] $250 GC + $300 Trade in Coupon with Google Pixel 8, $350 GC + $300 Trade in Coupon with Pixel 8 Pro @ JB Hi-Fi

1260

JB Hi-Fi Gift Card will be sent out two weeks after order is placed online or will be available when collecting the device for in-store orders. Offer ends 12 October 2023.

$300 bonus discount coupon applies to Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro order when you trade in an eligible device via SquareTrade by 25 October 2023. This is in addition to the credit for your trade-in device.

For example, if you were to trade in a device with a trade-in credit value of $1:

  • Pixel 8 128GB $1,199 - ($300 bonus coupon + $1 trade-in credit) = $898 upfront. You then receive a $250 Gift Card effectively making it $648 (depending on what you do with the Gift Card).
  • Pixel 8 Pro 128GB $1,699 - ($300 bonus coupon + $1 trade-in credit) = $1,398 upfront. You then receive a $350 Gift Card effectively making it $1,048 (depending on what you do with the Gift Card).

May be a more worthwhile deal compared to the $250 Pixel 8/$400 Pixel 8 Pro bonus credit offer via Google Store, if you have an eligible device to trade in.

There's also a bonus JB Hi-Fi Gift Card offer if you pre-order both Pixel and Pixel Watch 2 devices in the same transaction:
- Pixel 8 + Pixel Watch 2 from $1,748 = $450 Gift Card
- Pixel 8 Pro + Pixel Watch 2 from $2,248 = $550 Gift Card

    • In 2 weeks after you picked up your phone.

  • Still deciding whether I go this route or the HN deal. Anyway…. I have 2 devices to trade.

I'm aware you can stack the 2x trade in vouchers as they're just in gift card format but does anyone know if you can stack 2x trade bonus coupons for one Pixel order @ JB?

  • Just preordered - am a bit appalled that we still need to pay delivery (if not click and collect) … $5.99 for standard and $6.99 for express.

    • Just pick it up from the store.
Those postage rates seem reasonable though but agree, should be free postage once spending over $200

  • Can we combine with UltimateGC? That'll effectively make the 256gb 8pro for $1040.

  • Just got my p7 5 months ago, tempting for a p8……

    • Why?
Looking for stuff to spend money on?
I usually get every second model, they easily last for 2y and can get alright money selling then still.

      • +2

Fingerprint scanner sucks. Although p8 may have the same bad fingerprint scanner, at least the face unlock works on more apps. I don't need to try couple of times and end up using the passcode. The user experience is very bad.

        • Mine is very good these days.
Have a look for the usual tweaks.
I think pixel 8 would be the same.
Face unlock handy during the day.

          • @G-rig: It depends on fingers, if it's too dry, mostly it will fail. I tried all the tricks. Well, it is usable, but it's the worst fingerprint scanner I've ever used. Other than that, I am ok with the rest of the phone.
The difference between upgrade every year and every 2 years is not that much. Maybe 100-150. I am not saying that's nothing, but it definitely not a big number either. So do whatever makes me happy.

            • @ce5himm:

              • Doesn't hurt to moisturize your hands so not dry, notice how it works better when lick your finger for example)
              • screen protectors can make a difference
              • scan each thumb twice, one set in lower light.
              • turned off screen always on setting, and something else under screen unlock settings.

Just saying don't expect the p8 to be any better. I think the software updates has improved it over time from when I first got the phone.

              • @G-rig: since I am fine with the face unlock on 7, I will be fine to use it to unlock more apps on 8. I don't really care whether fingerprint scanner improved or not.

                • +1

@ce5himm: Who said face unlock will unlock more apps on the 8 vs 7?

You'll find it's a security measure not having face unlock open banking apps, makes sense to me.

                • @ce5himm: hmm you may be correct given the new G3 chip and sounds like it will have proper biometric face dedection not just a picture of you. Not sure if it would work at night anyway:

Google Tensor G3 works with the Titan M2 security chip to protect personal information and make your Pixel more resilient to sophisticated attacks. And now, Face Unlock on Pixel 8 meets the highest Android biometric class, allowing you to access compatible banking and payment apps like Google Wallet

Previously only the iphone had proper face dedection technology:

iPhone has special technology which may work on more apps, if they are approved by the maker (ie Commbank)
TrueDepth camera captures accurate face data by projecting and analysing thousands of invisible dots to create a depth map of your face and also captures an infrared image of your face.

                  • @G-rig: There is no Lidar 3d radar with the P8 Pro, so it wont be as good as the face unlock on the iPhone, P4XL, P30 Pro, etc.

        • You dont need to justify .. just upgrade.

I upgrade every 6 mths from Samsung Galaxy S series to Pixel series, and back & forth.

          • @matt-ozb: Ah so is just marketing mumbo jumbo and probably the same as the 7.

Will see, The only reason I would is to claim on tax, very marginal gains if any to be honest.

  • +1

Can we pay $100 to upgrade to the 256GB versions?

    • +1

They don't care which version you order, so yes. You want 256, you pay 100 more, that simple

  • How to do full backup from my phone so that it remains on my Google account while I wait for a new phone? I think if I remove the device from my account so that Squaretrade can start it up without an activation block - that would remove the backup from Google One I think?

    • You don't have to send it back until you get your new phone, have 7 days usually. Just plug old phone into new one.

  • on JB's page it says "* Bonus Top-Up voucher can only be applied to the eligible devices listed in the promotional offer. Devices not listed in this offer will not be eligible to receive the Bonus Top-Up value. Minimum trade in value of $10."

    link - https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/jbtradein
so how come everyone talking about a $1 trade in value is all you need?
also eligible devices seem to be only pixel devices listed in the table?

  • +2

$300 off would be better than a gift card, could you use it to buy another one then return one?
fk around either way, pixel 7 pre-order deal was way better.

  • Anyone got an eaely read on if this improves on any known pixel weaknesses - reception, battery life, fingerprint reader, slow charger, anyrhing else ?

    • Looks to have the same optical fingerprint sensor from the 6 & 7. Which is the only thing I wanted them to upgrade. If it had an ultrasonic type like on the Samsung I'd be upgrading my P7.

      • I have 23U and P7P .. and the fingerprint scanner on the P7P is better than the S23U.

        • +1

I haven't actually used the latest Samsung phones, but from everything I've read ultrasonic sensors are more reliable than optical. I preferred the rear sensor on the P3, 4 & 5, worked 99% of the time.

6 & 7, it probably works 50% of the time, with tempered glass screen protectors.

          • +2

@shaun-o: I have a s23 and Pixel 7. The S23 is much better compared to the P7 which is awful even when scanned same finger twice. No comparison (on mine at least)

  • should set up something to daisy chain the orders using gc voucher from another member,,

@drpox bit early for that - expect similar to pixel 7. They are pretty good these days compared to the pixel 4 and 6.

  • +1

Wow, the price increase has attracted so much negative feedback. Check out the JB Hi-fi Facebook ad for it. It's full of people who can't justify the increase. Surely sales will be lower this launch.

    • Don't know why they're complaining in JB Hi-Fi facebook ad… the RRP is set by google lol

      • I don't think they're complaining at JB, most likely the price increase in general.

    • +1

I would think that way also. Pixel 5 I got was only $799 I wouldn't pay more than that. I might need to wait 6-8 months from release though. Heh

  • +2

Did anyone else go through with the trade in and end up with an email with no bonus barcode or coupon in the email? Mine looks like an error with a placement image holder regardless of which device I'm viewing it from

    • +1

Yeah just got the same thing.

  • Finding a device worth $1 is the most difficult part

    • What devices give you a dollar trade and how much to buy them lol

      • Well most of budget phones can't trade in.

LG phones worth nothing as they no longer in mobile market

IPhones older than X $0 value

Motorola G82 that one which bought for $200 only $90 not worth trading

IPhone X worth $150 no defects

Nothing is of $1 in value

        • That's fairly useless then, you just have to trade in your good phone (which you could get more for on ebay if you can be bothered) however looking at the other thread it seems like you get the bonus trade in voucher plus the phone value voucher (which would be $675 for P7).

        • You say you want to trade in to get the $300 bonus voucher, but don't use the trade in coupon.

After you play your order with $300 bonus voucher, email them and say you changed your mind and no longer want to trade in your phone. They will deduct the value from the trade in coupon that you haven't used yet and that's the end of that.

          • @CodeXD: yes so you should be able to keep the $300 but get charged for the phone value. That's essentially what i did last time and they posted it back for free - then sold for more on ebay.
Keep the charger and cable obviously as these don't come with one anymore ffs.

          • @CodeXD: Have you really tried this? That's like not trading in at all and the phone you have just for show to get the $300 voucher

            • @neonlight: Yes, I did it less than a month ago in the trade in deal for pixel 7.

Used an old Samsung S7 valued at $1 and after using the $300 bonus voucher, I emailed them and said I changed my mind.

              • @CodeXD: Wow ok thanks for sharing. Now I need to find something low value atm nothing but only mobile they accept is iphone x. You reckon I can do that and just email change my mind and not apply trade in. What's their email for doing that?

                • +1

@neonlight: They have a contact us link along with the trade in email

                  Get in touch with us
If you have any questions, you can reply or via our contact page.
We aim to answer any questions within 1 hour during business hours.

            • @neonlight: If you decide not to trade in you get charged the phone trade in amount (but get to keep the $300) voucher if buying a p8 etc. You can get a bit more Online selling but $375 for p7 pretty good ($500 on eBay). Would still cost you a bit to buy w p5 to trade in for $50 so too much trouble and Pointless.

              • @G-rig: They do not charge you the phone trade in amount, they simple deduct it from the gift card.

                • @CodeXD: Hmm they used to, which is why you price your credit card details to pre authorise in the event you dont send it back.

Perhaps they have lumped it together this time, but not sure how that would work if you use both voucher codes to purchase the new phone, before you send your old one back in??

Seems I've been sucked in to perhaps upgrading, tax receipt handy and not much out of pocket for the p8. Slightly better screen, cpu and battery (but no doubt the more hungry CPU would eat that extra battery). Bit smaller size is cool.

                  • @G-rig: In my first comment to this series of comments

You say you want to trade in to get the $300 bonus voucher, but don't use the trade in coupon.
They will deduct the value from the trade in coupon that you haven't used yet and that's the end of that.

If you use the trade in coupon then yes, they will deduct your credit card instead if you change your mind. I found it easier to just not use it and return it to them rather than get $1 from them and then pay $1 from elsewhere.

                    • @CodeXD: Oh ok, bit different from last time then.
Still a bit stupid saying trade in to get the $300 then not trading in, they should have just knocked $300 off the RRP instead (like last time).

Well perhaps it's worth me selling on eBay, one went for $500 a few days ago, and I got a case, new box of screen protectors..

  • +2

I claimed the coupon, I received an email without coupon code lol.

    • yeah seems broken. I've emailed their support line. hopefully gets resolved

      • Sorry to say this. Thank god I am not alone. Hopefully they fix it on monday

        • Seems to be all sorted, Just email support and they will send you the coupon code.

          • @Jonesyj83: which was that for the trade in coupon or trade-in value coupon, or the gift card?
            🙄

          • @Jonesyj83: Good I got my coupon!

            • @Cheapunk: How long did they take to get back to you after you emailed support? I should be patient but just anxious haha.

              • +1

@ragflan: Was like a hour and a half

                • @Jonesyj83: Thank you! I just got mine too for anyone in a similar boat. It took 4 hours for me but resolved!

        • +1

          confirmed got my code

      • is the $300 trade in discount email supposed to be a pdf or just an email with a barcode ?

        • they should be separate emails. one for barcode/coupon, one for trade in value as a pdf eGift card

    • Phew! Thought it was just me! Got the email without a barcode or coupon. Emailed support this morning. Nothing yet but hopefully they'll respond soon.

Edit: My situation got resolved. Support sent me the coupon.

  • When is full payment to be made , up front or when you pick it up in store ?

    • Up front if you pre order online to get the gift card

      • thats not right, ive received 2 emails ..one with the $50 and the other with the $300 coupons
i then take them vouchers in store to pay in full
nowhere have i asked to pay in full

        • They make you work for it at least haha

        • How do pre-orders work?
Pre-orders allow you to pay for an item you want ahead of its release day.

Is your issue the fact that you do not want to pay in full until the item is released?

          • @CodeXD: That's the whole point of pre-order, get the cheaper price

            • @G-rig: Is it? Isn't it for the pre-order bonus?

              Also on the product page

              Pre-order price guarantee
If the price of your pre-order drops before release day we'll refund you the difference shortly after release.

              https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/google-pixel-8-5g-128gb-o…

I know Amazon doesn't charge you until they send the product out, but every company will do things differently.

              • @CodeXD: Did you end up getting the pixel 7 last time, are you upgrading? Seemed like a much better deal and easier..

                • @G-rig: Yes I got the Pixel 7. Not upgrading to Pixel 8 at this time but just following it out of interest.

                  • @CodeXD: Same mate. Think we did quite well last time and I think I can hold my load until the 9 unless something happens to it.

        • @Muney - it is right.
I said pre order online. Which I have done.
You have said pre order in store.
We are talking about two differnt ways to buy.

          • +1

@Pidgeon: You wouldn't get all the voucher codes in store? Would be a nightmare for the attendant you'd think, but who knows, people with no internet and credit card may do it.

          • @Pidgeon: i pre-ordered online to get all the vouchers- in my case $50 + $300
and then took those coupons into the store to pay for it it full

            • @muney: @muney so what was wrong with what I said originally?

I traded in my phone. Recieved a $400 trade in value and the 300 bonus.

Used those to pre-order online and had to pay for it in full. I will recieve the 250 gift card as i have preordered.

  • +1

My pixel 5 has been serving me well, battery is exceptional still. Is it worth getting this? Trade in value is $50.

    • Yes absolutely. P8 is perfect upgrade for P5 and think of it as selling yourbP5 for $350. Very unlikely to get that price anywhere else

    • im in the same boat as you..love the P5 to death, it has brilliant battery life and does everything so well.
but the JB hifi discounts make it hard to say no..hopefully the P8 is a worthy upgrade

      • Likewise, the pixel 5 wasn't perfect but was great and liked the compact size and light weight.
I found the p7 to be a great upgrade along the same lines, the the p7 pre-order deal was too good last time. They could do away with trying to copy apple with the glass case back, just adds weight and you can't see with a case on it (slippery AF to hold without a case too).

    • i got the pixel 7 in the recent deal and used it to upgrade over 5. There is significant significant improvement in photos and overall responsiveness.
However, it is quite bulkier and blocky compared to P5 which can be used with single hand. but i guess you would have to let go of the small size form factor with pixel sooner or later

      • Can use p7 single handedly just.
The pixel 5 kb was slightly too small.
The voice dictation software is way better on the 7 so just use that a lot more. The p5 would make a lot of errors and not understand you.

Already mentioned it would be better if they kept the weight down like five and didn't bother with this shiny glass bs

    • I personally have never had a phone last more than three years so I would consider how much longer you think you will get from it.

My pixel 5 died out of nowhere last month and as a result I lost some data…. it was soo close to making it to the three year mark!

      • +1

iPhone X here still working since 2017 - Close to 6 years. Pixel 5 still working since 2021 April, LG G4 (replaced after bootloop) still working despite battery not great since 2016

    • -1

Don't trade in keep the Pixel 5 so you can upload photos via Pixel 5 by copying photos from new phones to it.

      https://repaynt.com/2021/02/original-pixel-unlimited-google-…

I haven't tried this but its a good guide.

You would save money by not paying Google One.

      • Last time you could trade the p5 for $220, but for $50 you'd hardly bother and could keep for a spare (and for that purpose but in reality can't imagine anyone bothering with that). Would prbably get $100 or so selling privately.

  • Pixel 8 Pro 128GB $1,699 - ($300 bonus coupon + $1 trade-in credit) = $1,398 upfront. You then receive a $350 Gift Card effectively making it $1,048 (depending on what you do with the Gift Card).

I don't see it that way. It's still $1398 for $1748 of total value rather than the phone itself being $1048. Unless you were going to spend more at JB anyway for something else alongside.

That said, still a good deal for a brand new release.

  • Went looking for some benchmarks. Didn't make much sense to go on about a new chipset without showing benchmarks for comparisons.

According to this source, it's not looking too good. Performance is ok but stability seems to be a bit of a let down

"But despite having one extra core, the Tensor G3 did not perform as well as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. In fact, its performance was closer to last year’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 than to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2."

"The Pixel 8 Pro achieved a best loop score of 8,572 and a lowest loop score of 5,029, with slightly better stability at 58.7%. These are not pretty results, especially when compared to the iPhone 15 Pro Max (A17 Pro chip) and Galaxy S23 Ultra (Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip), which returned stability results of 78.9% and 69%, respectively."

    https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/10/06/google-pixel-8-benchma…

    • +1

Yeah no need to rush will keep the p7 and see what the p9 is like. Seems like very marginal gains if any (including teething problems), probably an alright choice if you still need one (or get a p7/pro cheap)

    • Ok what about tensor G3 vs G2?
      Any noticeable difference?

      https://nanoreview.net/en/soc-compare/google-tensor-g3-vs-go…

  • Pixel 7 128 = $375 + $300 = $675 . Pixel 8 128 =$1199 - $675 = $524 outright .. & $250 GC issued later on for someone else bday gift ??

    • +2

Or just keep p7 = $0 and don't have to do anything.
Not buying into the hype, still goes great and will be almost the same phone, but not a bad deal if you need a new one.

    • Yep posted in comments below but this is what I'm doing.

Just waiting for Thursday to pickup phone and $250 GC

  • has anyone had any luck using the $300 coupon instore? I need to preorder instore as I want to use the ultimate gift cards but when I gave the staff my coupon code they said they needed a pin. I also had the same issue others had where no barcode/coupon was sent initially but was given the coupon code by support later via email. have tried asking for the pin but they advised no pin needed for coupon, am I only able to use the $300 coupon online?

    • +1

Exchange your ultimate card to JB GC. Yes it was unavailable, but I checked yesterday, was surprised that now you CAN. Don't know how long will it last. Better be quick

      • mate, thank you so much!! that made it so much easier given you can actually use unlimited gift cards online vs one ultimate, glad they decided to allow that exchange as I have now ordered the pixel online so all sorted, thank you!

    • +1

No pin needed for the $300 coupon.

For me this is how they did it

      1.Scan phone (256gb pixel 8)
      2. Scan $300 off
      3. Scan barcode for $375 trade in. Required a pin.
      4. Pay remainder
      5. Told to get $250 GC at collection on Thursday

  • Do we know what happens if we return the phone without opening the box ? Do you get full refund or a mix of cash refund + gift voucher (tradein vaule + bonus ) ? I have a P7(bought from JB last year with pre-order offer) , wanted to upgrade to p8pro, but if I go with JB trade in offer , I get 375 for trade-in + 300 bonus and fork out another $1024.

I am thinking to get take the HN $69 offer with optus and want to keep it as I need optus sports. Currently paying $24.99 with optus post-paid it will be 6.99.
