Rola Tilting 4-Bike Carrier $25 (Was $196.05) + Free Shipping @ Rola

3440
FREESHIP24

Found what i think is a pretty decent deal, various models to choose from but check out this 4 bike tilting tow bar mounted bike carrier delivered for $25. still selling for well over $100 elsewhere. They also have fixed 2, 3 and 4 bike carrier and tilting variants all on clearance.

Never used this brand before (placed my order so yet to see quality), and yes I'm sure there are better designs but for $25 for the odd road trip this will do just fine.

    • Same

Images are not clear, you still need tow hitch?

    • Yes. It seems like it does.

“This system works with all towbars”

      • +13

You take towball off then put it thru the hole in this one, then if you want you put it all back on. This means that the Towball is effectively holding the bike rack on.

While this is a different unit. If you look at the time in the video from 15 secs in you will see how that mounts, thats in effect how this unit is mounted.

Thanks for doing the simple job that Rola's incompetent staff couldn't.

PSA: this item won't fit if you have a spare wheel on your rear door.

          • @umexcuseme: Wonder if this can be tweaked to hold a spare tyre as well/ instead?

So many new cars don't have spares any more.

            • @tunzafun001: You can get dedicated equip for this, but it’s not cheap $1500 as a bench mark. Def better way to go. Lots of USA stuff, but an Aussie company in Perth makes good gear. Mirack…. Check Insta or google.

My 4 year old daughter is the only one with a bike.

Does she have a car with a towbar?

      • +1

Not yet, I am sure I could rig something up to her car

        • +1

With Duct tape you can do anything…

autobarn review. couldnt fit 4 bikes on returned. maybe buy the 4 bike one for 2 bikes ahah

      • +3

        Maybe 2 kids bikes + 2 adult bikes ?

For $25, I'm happy to risk it. Worst case the kids bikes can squeeze into the boot.

  • +1

Any way to install this on a garage wall instead?

  • +1

The only negs I can find are that it won't really fit 4 bikes. Still seems like a sweet deal.

  • Just bought one, but how does it fit onto the tow bar?

  • +1

Thanks op. Got one, now need an aux number plate and hopefully won't need aux lights

    • Do you just buy another plate from motor reg?

      • Yep, $50 in NSW

  • +1

Legend OP, thank you. I only just found out that this type of towball bolt-through rack existed and was going to start looking for one, this is excellent.
I half expect that this is a pricing error though, so fingers crossed we all get them.

  • +3

    Thanks OP.

My wife is convinced that ozbargain is listening to our conversations as we keep finding amazing deals the day after we discuss things. Just decided we need a bike rack yesterday :D

  • Ordered one. Great price! Thanks OP

Any suggestions for roof mounted carrier

  • +1

Didn't realise but it seems in NSW at least you can legally make your own auxillary number plate. To get one from myplates is a crazy $50.

    Homemade auxiliary plates

You can only create your own auxiliary plates if all these conditions are met:

the towed vehicle doesn’t need registration and is not legally obliged to have a number plate (for example, certain types of agricultural equipment)
the number plate of the towing vehicle is obscured by the towed vehicle
the plate size and lettering is clearly visible from up to 20 metres away and 45 degrees above and on either side of the vehicle (must be compliant with cl.25 of the Road Transport (Vehicle Registration) Regulation 2017)launch.

    https://www.nsw.gov.au/driving-boating-and-transport/vehicle…

    • Setting yourself up for a fall there methinks. First reqt isn't met as there is no towed vehicle. You might be lucky to get a warning.

    • +2

I got me one in WA. $35 from memory. I kinda figure that as the bikes cover a fair bit of the rear lights (and I can't be arsed with a separate light assembly) a cop might see the aux plate and think "well he's not a total (profanity)" and not bother me.

    • thanks, Would you just print one out ?

i might go to https://www.myplates.com.au and punch in my plate , and screenshot it and print , hehe

    • In Victoria, you can order bike rack number plates from Vicroads for $37.70 delivered (20c credit card fee). I ordered and paid over the phone

  • Would this hold an electric bike?

Edit: Eh ill roll the dice, thanks OP

    • +1

I think it would depend on the frame of the bike. But don't see why it wouldn't be able to support it. Maybe not 4 E-Bikes.

    • I would not mount an electric bike on this, likely too much weight on the top tube. Electric bike carriers have wheel supports: ebike rack examples

    • +1

Maybe with the battery out and helium in the tyres

  • Can I still open the boot of my RAV4 with this on?

    • +1

Yes, that's the point of these racks, as opposed to a sedan's boot where the door goes upwards, not outwards like an SUV like your RAV4 or my Pathfinder. You just need to fold it down to do so.

    • -3

Most likely not. Once it is on, you'll find it hard to open.

      • +3

Most likely not. Once it is on, you'll find it hard to open.

Goes to show you didn't read the description:

"the FX4T includes the added benefit of being able to tilt forward."

        • Well there ya go. But tilting it with bikes on???

          • +1

@geekcohen: Imagine the carnage if the tilt mechanism fails mid freeway journey. Doh

    • +1

Depends what model of RAV4 - if it's the old model where the boot swings open sideways (rather than upwards), then it won't work.

  • How heavy are these?

  • Code no longer working

    • +1

      Just worked for me.

      • Yes working now but was failing in the last 5-10 mins

    • Still working

  • +1

Thanks, just ordered (and code still works). Now need a towbar :)
Was thinking perhaps have in garage to store the bikes.
    Buy first think later.

  • +1

Bought one. Now have to spend $800 to get a towbar installed :). Any suggestions on the brand /make for towbar for Hyundai Santa Fe AWD ?

    • +1

Hayman Reese, but likely over that budget installed

      • I am getting a TAG tow bar for around $650 and will install it myself. Got quote $1300 for Hayman + Electrics.

    • Just had our Hyundai Santa Fe fitted; was around 650 from memory.

      • +1

That's very cheap, I would have expected over $1k,even for the less well known towbar brands.

Getting a Hayman Reese fitted to a Sorento this week and it's about $1300 (and I'd think sante fe and Sorento would have similar hardware, but could depend on year)
