[NSW, NRMA] 11% off Total Electricity Bill + Free $300 Electricity Credit on 1st Bill (NRMA Membership Required) @ Simply Energy

141

Excludes SA.

Free $300 electricity credit on 1st bill = free electricity for a QTR for the average Australian.

Standard rates are a bit high but with the 11% guaranteed discount on total bill, brings them on par with most energy providers.

Churned yesterday to the SIMPLY NRMA PLAN after getting my $100 discount from AGL on my electricity bill.

Works with NRMA blue membership, most ozbargainers have it anyways from the multiple freebie posts.

They're smart and billed me monthly. $200 wasnt carried over to the next month

      Just complain to energy ombudsman.
Dunno why no one does. Takes 2 min and issue resolved next day most of the times

    • Do you mind clarifying on the $200? Is this part if the $300 credit they promised?

      • +1

        Credits have to carry forward.
So if $300 is not totally utilised, the remaining do to second bill

        • Hmm, just reading the rates and it does say bill frequency 1 month. And their offer is $200 for "first bill" so they have grounds to say credits won't rollover.

They give a "guaranteed" 12% discount but rates are much higher than others.

          • @Craze: I asked them in live chat whether credit rolls over, and they said yes.

      • Sorry, was $200 when I signed up in VIC…

        • Did it roll over?

  • +1

Appears to be NSW residents only from checking my app in QLD.

When I compared prices in Vic, Simply Energy was slightly cheaper than Ovo, but when I read their reviews I avoided it like the plague - billing errors, billing issues, etc.

I can't be bothered chasing up incorrect/missed discounts or rates not applied as promised. Just not worth the $50 a year less than Ovo.

1.2 star rating on Google Reviews - atrocious!

I dont bother calling any energy retailer for errors.
Straight to energy ombudsman online complaint form, 2 min to fill. Then i get a call next day with an apology from retailer with a fix and $100 energy credit as compo.

Ive had billing errors with every energy retailer ive churned with this year (been churning every cycle) and havent paid a single cent for electricity and only about 40% of gas bills from credits and apology credits. Over $2k saved so far.

This QTR (oct to dec) will be saving $300 electricity from this deal, $150 for gas with credits ive been given (and add to that $300+ private health insurace from free 6 months qld country PHI + free $300 from PHI for contact lenses which i use as limits reset once you join them) so over $1k saved in 3 months from everyday bills.

Its all about being smart with bills these days

      • What errors did you find? I find it hard to track as sometimes they haven’t done an actual metre read.

        • +2
          • Not applying signup credits
          • Double charging on previous enervy provider bill usage
          • Not applying pro rata usage when rates change in one billing period (i.e charging higher rate to more than 85% of the usage when only the higher rate kicks in last 2 weeks of billing cycle.
          • incorrect meter reads

          Etc

      • Wow hats off to you, sir! Thanks for the tip. I've been with Tango for quite a few years now, and while they are quite competitive their prices have certainly crept up lately. Have just did some calcs and there are cheaper retailers out there, so will ring them up to see if any offers otherwise will churn.

I have to say Tango is pretty good with their billing, haven't picked up any errors so far (and yes, I do check my bill monthly).

  • $300 offer id only for NSW residents, not everywhere.

  • [TARGETED] Sorry, this offer is not available in this area yet. If you think there has been an error, please get in touch.

  • def NSW only

  • What are their tariffs though?

    • +1

For me about $1 per day (down to $89c after discount) and 36c per kw (goes down to 32.4c after discount) inc GST
Close enough to my rates but planning on using the $300 (aircon on most days lol) and churning with another provider offering $200+ signup

      • Mine with Origin is currently
        85.298 c/day
        &
        21.298 c/kWh

        • Keep in mind you are both talking about different states EC is in NSW, you are in VIC so its not a true comparison.

          • -3

            @RockyRaccoon:

you are both talking about different states

yes, I'm in a state of excitement without Dan, and the Grand Final on tomorrow.

          • @RockyRaccoon:

so its not a true comparison.

Is the end product different ?

  • Great Feed in Tariff rates @ 12c , but while thats great, given the $300 credit is only on the first months bill (no roll over?), if you are doing high feedin - which gets advantage of that tariff, it's just going to reduce the advantage you get from the $300 credit unless you are a very high power user. Quite clever. Would have been great for winter months.

    • I had this concern but live chat confirmed it carries over. This is a great plan for solar households over the summer.

      • They've said the same to me. I'm still a bit skeptical based on comments above.

  • Looks good the rate for Endeavour. Can we set quarter billing instead of monthly to maximise the $300 credit?

    • Well, my gas bill from them a few month ago was quaterly.

They dont do monthly. But sometimes your meter gets read on cut off date. So you have to be mindful when you join. I joined the day they do a meter read and bill to be issued from AGL as per app, so should get close to 3 months from Simply energy

Just confirmed via their chat that unused welcome credits roll over until consumed :)

  • I was with Simply Energy on this plan about 4 months ago.

I then changed plans to their VPP when I got a battery.

On the change of plans my billing got completely stuffed up (in their favour) and they stopped paying a solar FIT completely.

Eventually sorted out, but it took weeks. Have since left.

    I dont recommend them.

  • It says 7% discount not 11%, am I missing something?

  • Just redid my plan with origin, why cheaper than this place
    I’m paying 34c /kw and 80c per day.

    • Im getting $300 free electricity then churning for more free electricity

Btw origin offered me 28c per kw and 75c per day to stay - left them after cashing out $150 credit and $200 worth everyday rewards points. Declined as i get more discount churning every electricity cycle.

      Same as private health insurance

      • Yeah I got $100 credit on my bill after the 1st of Nov. Then I churn again. Plus the rewards points

  • Great. Let's compare the prices

  • looks like shopback is giving $108 cashback for electricity

    • If you trust econnex, go for it.
      I do not.
They store your info on an overseas server in india or phillipines including license, medicare, and other info they take during signup.

  • Thanks for sharing op, i think it would be worthwhile to get the first month credit and then switch again to another utility provider.

  • I feel like im getting greedy if i decided to move, so far my solar pays my electricity bill for about 14 months

    • If they keeping throwing at me offers like this, i wont need solar
So far my electricity has been free this year

    • May I ask what plan are you on for your solar?

  • +1

Just got my welcome pack, what is an Ancillary All Day? I gets charged per KWh and is that on top of their Peak, Shoulder and Offpeak rates? If that’s the case. This $300 credit might only last a month lol with solar on my roof. Peak is 74 cents plus the ancillary is almost $0.93/kWH. That’s insane

  • "Upon checking, we are unable to sell electricity to your location as we do not have the billing rights for your meter's tariff code." 😔

  • im seeing 7% now on their site.

is the rate on energymadeeasy inclusive or exclusive of the discount? i.e. 74.40c/kWh will become 69.19c instead.

  • Any churn deals for SA? Including EV deals?

    I've seen:

Origin - been on the Rewards plan Nov 1 - Get $100.
Ovo - $10 per month ($120 referral credit over 12 months)- But $1.50 day rate..ouch!
Honey Insurance - Gives you $100/ $300 with AGL.
Simply Energy RAA - Terrible rates offer. But $150 welcome credit.

  • Just got a txt saying they won't take me as I have not met their credit criteria with Equifax. Strange considering I'm scoring an excellent from Equifax's credit reporting sites.

    • Must be looking for below average customers, interesting business model

    • Same thing happened to me with energy locals.
They said my equifax was below 450.
When i checked it days later, it was 800
