LG C3 42" OLED for just under 1.7k delivered. Cheapest so far I think? Can also purchase direct from their website, but it's a little more expensive (only about $30 I think).

C4 wont be out until about May next year.
I'd bite your hand off for a $1000 c2 42 right now, but I guess nobody has stock at all hey?
Or you can have it for just money
I bought one for $1700 and after 3 month it drops to $1300 so I bought another to hedge it. Nevertheless the hedging doesn't work as it drops to sub $1000 before sold out.
Imagine treating consumer products like they were commodities
Buying another one is pointless though? Its not like you could sell the $1,300 one for $1,700… Like, why are you wasting 1.3k for something i assume you arent going to use??
So you want peope to wait 9-10 months?
Literally this, it's like being afraid of buying a new phone, they'll always be a newer one coming
I know right, when the C2 42" were $2200+ I was like if it drops below a certain point, ($1800 in my case) I said I'd buy it and so I did. Used it for 6-7 months and then the prices dropped to $1300 ish, and so on at the end of the life cycle when the C3s were about to come out it was under $1000. Now did it hurt to see it fall $800+ below what I paid, sure but I got to use this fantastic display for the entire duration and up until now. People waiting to buy this at $1000 or below will be waiting for months at this point, if its worth it for them and they can wait fair play, but if you want it now then JUST BUY IT.
what only 8.9/10 throw it in the bin
I believe that's the highest rating in this size range.
I think the c2 went as low as $1116, hopefully history repeats for the c3.
$995 from TGG, picked one up myself.
Yep, same. That was a real bargain
That probably won't be until March next year.
Do LG TVs still have ads in the menus? Family has a C6T from way back and the ads still annoy me
Anyone has any experience moving from 32:9 super ultrawide to this display? Do you miss the wide aspect ratio when working with spreadsheets? I'm on a 60% productivity (daytime WFH) and 40% gaming (night time and weekends).
it took some time for me to adjust, but I am happy with it now. Spreadsheets on this is crazy good too.
Other reasons for me:
native resolution for consoles
transitioned from NEO QLED to OLED - experience is different
Had some tiny issues with the 49 inch that was bothering me for its price
Can watch youtube/netflix while computer is off
Can use a soundbar for my speaker because it has eArc.Thanks for the input! Do you know if the TV supports auto source detect? Meaning it could auto switch to an active source. Would be good since I switch between my gaming rig and my work computer.
Also how do you find the font rendering on windows?
yeah, source thing works. it can switch to any HDMI port that receives a recent signal. think they call it HDMI-CEC.
No issues with text for me. You just need to set things up initially to minimize the possibility of burn in (hide taskbar, black wallpaper, minimum "turn off screen time" duration). set and forget!btw. i am on LG 42 C2. not the C3. but i guess they're almost the same.
@Oauiii: Thanks!
@Davesday: Its gives you a prompt that input was detected, doesnt auto switch, I use the remote to switch.
Been with the C3 just a week tho.
Fonts look slightly ugly, doesnt bother me too much, havent tried the cleartype fix yet.
You might notice vertical banding on light greys on the panel.
@kehuehue: Thanks for chiming in!
OK using the remote to switch isn't too bad I guess. The Odyssey G9 doesn't auto detect & switch either and requires manual operation of the button. Not sure how will that affect its longevity.I am ok with 1440p font rendering which is a bit jagged to be honest. I am hoping 4K 16:9 with WRGB/WOLED pixel layout wouldn't be worse.
I read that vertical banding is normal for a new panel. The panel refresh (first run after 4 hours) would take care of it.
Do you do deal much with spreadsheets on the C3?
Do you do deal much with spreadsheets on the C3?
yes, pretty much 80% of usage is work, rest is gaming during weekends or weekdays.
I can still see some slight banding (esp in Outlook Dark mode) sometimes but doesnt bother me too much.
@kehuehue: So no problem adjusting back to 16:9 and working with very wide spreadsheets?
@Davesday: definately miss stacking windows sideways, but the 4k means more vertical space so i adjust accordingly. i will eventually go back to ultra-wide.
@kehuehue: How do you normally lay out your app windows?
@Davesday: btw just realized there is a faster way to switch inputs (less key pressing on the remote)
if you long press the number on the remote, you can that number assign it to inputs (quick access)
I do, went from Neo G9 to this. Was planning to buy the 57" but going to wait and see if nvidia "fixes" the 240Hz over HDMI issue.
Enjoying the vertical estate on the C3, hated that the Neo was two 27" next to each other. Esp coming from a 32" prior to that.
What I really miss is the 1000R curve tho, more fun stacking windows left to right. I might go Corsair Xeneon Flex next tho just for fun.
I wouldn't go to the Corsair Xeneon Flex, I feel like the pixel density would be too low.
I was also considering the 57". I thought that would be the best of both words (super ultrawide but with the vertical space). But it is a dual 4K so it'll take a toll with fps output. Also that beast's power consumption is ~300W. Way too high for WFH during summer/winter and with AC on.
I really enjoy my current setup where I can stack two wide spreadsheets side by side. Its great for productivity. But it is no good for consuming content and playing games.
I wouldn't go Corsair route because the pixel density is too low. If I'm seating far away and just playing games, I think it'll be alright though.
I think the LG C3 also had like a 277Wish rating. I run on low brightness for work anyway, so in both cases consumption should be low.
One point to consider is the refresh rate, whether the work laptop will be able to drive the 57" refresh rate at 60Hz. Having issues with the LG C3 (running 4k @ 30Hz), just need a usb-c to hdmi dock to fix that.
I remember for my Neo G9 I wasnt running at 5140 x 1440 but at the 3somethingx1080p because my work laptop could drive the higher resolution.
HP 830 G7 laptop
@kehuehue: No the 42" power consumption is only 60W max.
I solved the work laptop refresh rate problem by running USB-C to DP/HDMI video cable as it means driving the display via the dGPU. Mine is an old Dell XPS 9510 with 3050Ti.
got 2 16:9 panels at work and is obnoxious, one is flipped, vertical real estate is important for text plus don’t want to be constantly spinning around
32:9 looks trendy but is pretty useless imo
use 4ktv at home pretty decent, split windows vertically usually
32:9 has no place in gaming lol, stuff looks stretched, can't concentrate on what your doing.
For productivity though its brilliant.I had the G9 and almost every game supported it with nothing looking stretched at all
do you think jbhifi will price match with this?
They dont match ebay, I tried specifically with this seller.
You could get them to price match from their website, but it's $1,729.
Just bought a Samsung S95B 65' QD-OLED on the Samsung education store for $1400, it's also available on the commercial store if you guys can get access.
Not in stock :(
Keep checking, I waited 4-5 weeks!! It's definitely worth the wait
Hey, what is their commercial store? Know about edu one, but not sure on commercial.
Some companies have benefits with Samsung that allow their employees discounts. I only know of a few, the prices are usually ~$100-200 cheaper than the edu store.
That's an insane price if true.
Well, it was $1899 initially and I was told by an online agent that they periodically are in stock and to keep checking, somehow managed to get one yesterday for even less, delivery not till mid October tho!!
Out of stock on samsung gov store
Dang that's cheap. Bought mine for about $2k mind you few months ago. Been very happy with it.
Why so cheap. How much is the 43" ?
The S95B's were only manufactured in the 55'' & 65'', I've seen the 55" in stock more often for ~$1100. Its definitely on the larger side if you wanna use it as a gaming monitor!
Looks like it's expired :(
Looks like me buying it and/or others from here buying it made them raise the price lol.
I remember reading something this is worse for PC use than the C2, anyone know why? Or was what I read wrong?
I believe you are referring to the auto brightness and dimming feature to protect against burn in from static images. The factory was ‘no longer accessible’ in the C3. However the community recently found a way to assess the factory settings through a different key press but unfortunately the setting appears to not stick unless you keep it in factory mode.
Thanks
Genuine question, Is the difference between a normal LED and OLED or QLED observable, especially so much to be worth 2X the money? I haven't actually tried it out myself. Asking because my impression is people on this site usually don't spend unless it is worth and don't fall prey to marketing manipulations.
For content consumption (HDR videos and movies) and gaming, absolutely — OLED is the best you can get. Playing games is a dream on my C2, the colours are rich and the 120 fps motion is super fluid.
For productivity and day-to-day work and web browsing, nah, I reckon it's not worth it, at least not with the current state of OLED technology which still suffers from eventual burn-in. This is why I use a regular LCD screen when working from home (I have my C2 42" mounted on a monitor arm so I can swing it out of the way when I'm not gaming),
Also I would definitely not spend $1661 for a 42" OLED TV, that's way too much IMO, but opinions seem to differ on this.
I got my LG C2 42" earlier this year for a little over a thousand dollars delivered in this ripper of a deal, and that was well worth it:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/764279IMO, OLED TVs and monitors tend to be way overpriced most of the time, so it's best to wait for the deep discounts and sales, which usually happen early in the year when they're clearing out the old stock to make way for the latest model. OLED monitors in particular are often outrageously expensive and terrible value, so OLED TVs tend to be more affordable, but they lack certain features such as a power saving/sleep mode — I have to manually turn my LG C2 off via the remote if I'm stepping away from my PC for a bit.
" I have to manually turn my LG C2 via the remote if I'm stepping away from my PC for a bit"
You don't have to do this. There is a setting on LG OLED tv's to auto turn off when no signal is received. So you set your PC to turn off display after x minutes, and then the OLED will turn itself off based on the threshold you've configured in the settings.
Yes, I already have this enabled. Unfortunately it seems to take a long time to turn off after the "no signal" screen activates — if I remember right it is 15 minutes, which is too long for me, I wish we could set this to 2 minutes or something like that.
https://www.reddit.com/r/LGOLED/comments/ws4j5m/lg_c2_power_…(The C2 still uses a large amount of electricity with the "no signal" screen active, so that's why I don't like that)
Also the whole powering on and off thing is a bit annoying, I wish it would just act the same way a monitor does where clicking the mouse or pressing a key will wake up the TV automatically without having to use a remote control. That's the price we pay for getting a cheaper OLED TV instead of an OLED monitor.
Would probably wait a few months unless you urgently need it, price drops for these are usually pretty large when new models release, c2 42 was around $1000 after the c3 came out
