Cancelled my subscription without warning, taking this to the ACCC! 😝

  • Ah well, at least still enjoying free googles

  • haha cancelled

  • ++cancelled; but was nice while it lasted i guess

  • 2TB 6 month still working for me (new sign up today). My 30TB, 5TB accts storage got revoked from this originally deal though. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/802662?page=1#comment-1444… Good timing, my accts were full and going through data to delete or transfer takes time.

I didn't even do the hack, only activated the 6 months, and it was cancelled after a few hours anyway (new account). Not banned, just got an email saying the storage had "ended".

Interesting i wonder if they just cancelled any account that used the first step?

      • Sure seems like it.

    • Same, I did the 2TB one a day later it was revoked by Google. Account still active though. (Was my main though so lol).

  • One of my accounts got this:
"It looks like this account was used in a way that violates Google’s policies. (https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/40695)
This account became unavailable on 7 Oct 2023. Starting on 1 Sept 2024, this account will be considered for deletion.
If you think that your account was disabled by mistake, submit an appeal as soon as possible.
You can also download your data from some Google services. This gives you a way to keep your data even if your account is not restored."

My other more used accounts did not, Google simply revoked the 30TB or 5TB on those accounts. What a bumper. There's an appeal process. Nothing much was used on the above account but it wasn't a new account either.

  • Just got this email:
Your purchase from Google Ireland Limited on Google Play has been canceled. Any charges made will be refunded.

    Followed by this email:
    You cancelled your membership
Your 30 TB Google One plan has ended, so you have lost access to exclusive member benefits, expert support, and expanded storage across Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos. If you change your mind, you can renew your membership at any time.

I didn't cancel the membership. The account has reverted back to 15 GB, but the account hasn't been banned or disabled.

Ended up getting a google pixel 1 for unlimited photo and video storage at original quality instead. Just set it up and works a treat

    • still works?

      • Yes. Of course. That's why people get a Pixel 1, for unlimited storage on Google Photos.

        • This trick should put as a new deal. Thanks and cheers for this…

    • Where did you get it from? Gumtree or something?

      • +1

eBay. There are currently from what I see 2 listed on eBay. You could also buy one from USA since stock is more readily available.

Some on Facebook marketplace as well. Expect to pay $125-200 range

    • So you like sync photos from your current phone via like syncthing to the Pixel 1, which then uploads them to Google Photos?
Certainly an interesting trick. Might have to look into getting a Pixel 1.

      • +1

Yes that's what I have set up. For my DJI and other devices with SD card, connect pixel to to computer, transfer photos to the camera folder on pixel and away I go.

  • Is this unlimited storage on Google Photos & Videos still available on Pixel devices e.g. Pixel 1 or 2XL?

    • +1

      Yes. It is.

      • Thanks. Do you know if I connect an external drive to a Pixel 2XL, would I be able to upload the photos & videos to google photos unlimited or I need to transfer to the pixel internal storage for the upload to continue? Also are the upload can be done using original size or needs to be at a reduced quality?

        • +1

I haven't tried connecting an external drive, but I think it's fine. Only Pixel first gen can upload the original size, 2nd to 5th gen will upload reduced quality.

          • @Micky14: Thanks, will do a lot of uploading :-)
