          • @0jay: Some people struggle with the technique overall.

            • @G-rig: Some techniques are a lot of work and very sensitive to small inconsistencies.

I can get great little shots out of one of those anko machines but faark they’re tiny shots and so much fiddling for you mouthful.

Discovering a forgiving technique/method is life changing imo and aeropress’s the caper for me. Simple, forgiving, easy setup and cleanup is just a quick rinse.

You espresso freaks can eat my aeropress puck!

              • @0jay: Yeah true.. I'm in tune with my gear. Very good bang for buck and make better coffee than most cafes

Also depend how much you want to throw at the hobby.

Aeropress are too much faffing around for the quality of the coffee.

                • @G-rig: Aeropress faffing? Surely you jest!

The only bit of drama running an aeropress is handgrinding the beans in a Hario slim before dumping it directly into the upside down press rig (the slim is the perfect size for the aeropress barrel) and adding water. Bit of a swirl of the whole shebang half filled, topup, stir and whack the filtercap on.

Only thing simpler is a french press with takes a lot more water to wash/rinse at the end of it (and at its best doesn’t taste as good imo).

I’ve nothing against french press coffee though tbh

                  • @0jay: Just the filter papers and stuff.
I guess it's not much different to plunger coffee, just not as grainy i'm guessing.

                    • @G-rig: I started with a laser-cut stainless filter-disc which is fine but have found paper filters are just as good. Not sure I have a pref either way tbh.

End result is way stronger than what you can achieve with a press, very tasty, very well rounded espressoesque cup.

I really enjoy a good espresso but it’s no longer a preference.

                      • @0jay: yeah whatever works - sounds like a decent easy setup after all that :P

                        • @G-rig: And all for $45 including grinder (admittedly both second hand).

    • fine enough for espresso

What basket and machine do you use?

I had one of these for our EM6910 and our espresso improved leaps and bounds going to a real espresso grinder (Eureka Mignon).

  • Cheap and nasty

    • This is ozb champ

  • Can this grind fine enough for Turkish coffee?

    • IMHO? Not much chance…

      • Shim mod

  • How does this compared to Breville BCG450? It came with my Breville espresso machine. The problem is it doesn't grind fine enough. Would it be worthwhile upgrading to the Sunbeam EM0440?

    • Sunbeam way better than Breville.
Maybe Google it in case there are any easy mods (like with the sunbeam).
