A heads up for those who care about such things - Aussie Broadband use the Optus network as an MVNO.

      Optus Network Hmmmm. No thx

  • Thanks Op for including the actual mobile network provider in the title with the MVNO deal - should be required for all mobile plan deals

    • Hence why I went with them. Wanted a reliable network

      • I really like Aussie. I really dislike Optus

      • Optus is atrocious in term of coverage in QLD so no go for me

  • do they support eSim?

    • +2

      Unfortunately not

      • yep right there in the FAQ

Unfortunately, eSIM is currently not available on Aussie Broadband. However, we are working hard to add them to our product range in future.

eSIM is a digital technology that allows compatible devices to connect without a physical SIM card inserted into the device.

Be sure to check if your device is eSIM compatible.

I honestly cant tell the difference between 4G and 5G. I turned it off to conserve battery life and I honestly (with the exception of downloading apps) cant tell any key difference.

  • Signed up 2 days ago for their $50/mo plan, wonder if customer support will let me claim the deal

  • Will the $50 referral credit still apply if the code is used?

I don’t see why all the hate for the Optus network? Works perfectly fine for me. Does anyone have any real world experience why someone should avoid them or are you biased because of the data breach?

Same. I’m with Telstra and think their reception is horrendous compared to Optus..

      • +2

Agree. I have compared side by side with my family who are with Telstra using the exact same phone as me and the reception and speed of Optus was significantly better. I believe it comes down to your location. Telstra isn’t better in every circumstance.

I agree. In my area the Telstra and Optus towers are on the same building and I am 100m away from it. On my iPhone I have 2 SIMs in it - a Telstra 5G eSIM for work, and my Amaysim 4G physical SIM for personal. Amaysim uses the Optus 4G wholesale network. If I do a speed test on Telstra on some occassions, I get 10Mbps down, then I switch my phone to the Amaysim SIM and get 140Mbps on that. It's the same phone, same location, and not physically moving my phone around.

I have More 5G only data SIM plan and my download speed in my 4G LTE modem is around 25-30Mbps with the external antennas in use. I take my modem to my brother's place and I get 150Mbps down. Even though I am 100m away from the Telstra tower, all my LTE modem stats present as me being on the cell edge.

  • Do they throttle your internet if you go over the limit? or charge you per gigabyte?
