RTX 4080 stacks on stacks on stacks on stacks

    • im almost tempted to grab this purely for the GPU

      • +5

CPU worth like 250 dollar, GPU worth 1800ish (these are based on retail price, im sure they got it cheaper)
You can guess how much rest of the part worth. They are really bottom of bottom.

        • All the R5-7500F & R5-7600 deals (current & expired) are based on low-tier parts, mainly…especially the Mobo with weak-VRM.

But TF get more negative comments & may be it's more than expensive RAM-upgrade ?

Any one care to comment ?

      • +7

Likewise… trash-tier build bar the GPU.

        • -1

why though? like what exactly are you getting by spending more on the other parts?

          • +5

@ChatCPT: Cooler - you get better temp - hence higher clock/longer life so on (less noise as well since fan can run slower))
MB- apart from more extension slots, you get better power supply to the parts, allow future CPU upgrade although this might not be important to people who just use prebuilt machine. Build quality improvement, this depends on if you care or not.
            RAM- faster speed
Power supply - more stable power output higher effiency, different types of protection, longer warranty (generally top PSU has 5-10 years warranty), quieter (bigger/better fan), ability to handle sudden power spike (mainly dealing with OC parts)

Case- better air flow. less noise (bec of better air flow, fan run slower). Better looks? (thats personal)

Overall, nothing going to substantially increase your PC performance. It is more peace of mind. Same reason as why people buy "more luxury" car i guess. If everyone just go for value, then there is no reason for BMW or Audi to exist.

Again not saying what is used here will NOT work. They will 100%. Personally i would pay the extra 300-400 to get "more premium" parts, but i fully understand if people are happy with the basic ones.

I mean just look at 4070 TI. the value goes from 1200 to 1600+, why? they are all same GPU after all. But clearly there is a market for "premium" ones no matter the industry.

            • @jenesis33: thanks mate for the reply!
I dont know about comparing to luxury cars for the peace of mind argument - if anything jap/korea is categorically more reliable and cheaper than bmw but I get what you mean here

              • @ChatCPT: i'm sure not all the money you pay for the upgrade are "reliability" related. Some are Fancy/Nice to look at upgrade. Like all the ARGB.

                :P

                • @jenesis33: but surely fancy/nice to look at upgrades do not command the same importance for a PC?

                  • +2

@ChatCPT: That really depends on who you speak to.
I mean there is a reason why case like O11/H9/Y60 are popular (fish tanks)

There is a reason why more and more suppliers are producing WHITE parts or more parts with more ARGB.

If you ask me, yes i do value looks of my PC when i am spending 2500 on it. I dont mind paying 100-200 more to make it "look nice" comparing to a bland black box.

  • +3

    Bought from the last deal.
From purchase to delivery was about 10 days (total, not business).

Really happy with the service as always.
Case had a slight scratch during transit and I was compensated for it.

Highly recommend! Absolute beast of a computer.

    • +1

Thanks for the feedback and glad we could sort the issue for you. We have also revised RAM upgrade pricing with better availability and demand allowing us to push suppliers harder.

  • +5

i just gonna wait for the similar spec drop to 2k

    • +2

HODL till Black Friday or Boxing Day then?

      • +1

I think that'll be more likely next year.

Sub 2k is pretty close to the 4080 alone right now.

      • i am thinking of that, i currently have a 5600g + 2060s it can last me at least another few month

  • +12

The deal for the current configuration is actually still decent.

Its funny how they work their upgrades i.e. Upgrade to Ryzen 7900 for $399 is actually a decent deal, not great, but good enough to upgrade,…but then you get to the RAM and I've spoken poorly of this in the past, that an extra $200 for 16GB of RAM is insane and such a rip off!
Do yourself a favour, buy your own quality ram from Amazon 6000mhz CL30 for $200 and sell off the 16gb for $50 a worthwhile upgrade for at least 10fps in most games and then increased productivity almost 9% gains for a better option.

    • +1

Fps lows improved by 30fps in cod warzone and multiplayer which lead to a higher average fps.
Max fps didn't change much (single digits) but the consistency is a big upgrade.

    • +2

Thanks a lot for your suggestions on these upgrates!
Even 32G kit on Amazon AU is just $219

  • +5

Would be great if techfast could bring back the MSI MAG B650M Mortar WiFi motherboard or similar for this build and some upgrade options for tower cooler.

Noob question, if I install my own 32gb ram, would it be advisable to leave the 16gb in, since there's 4 slots?

    • +2

If you buy 6000MHz RAM, I don't get you still want their cheap 5200MHZ one

    • +3

no. the suggestion is remove the "16GB" ram and sell it (or keep it, your choice).
      A few reason.

      1. you want all RAM to have same speed, otherwise slower will drag everyone down.

      2. AMD CPU doesnt work well with 4 slot RAMs, it will seriously impact the performance of RAM, even might not boot up (this is AMD CPU RAM controller issue)

32GB of RAM is more than enough for most of ppl out there anyway.

  • Sweet Mother

  • +2

i question wisdom of buying a decent GPU and then crap everything else

    • +7

Have others had big issues with TechFast builds?

I know people who have purchased a 2060, 2080ti, two 3080s (me being one of them) and now I've upgraded to a 4080 - all high quality builds, the 2080ti rig is near 5 years old and hasn't missed a beat.

Had absolutely no issues with my 3080 build and my current 4080 system purchased with "crap components" is smashing test scored in Cine Bench & CPU benchmark has my pc in the top 15% of pcs with similar components.

I just find a lot of people question the quality but what exactly is poor quality/crap?

The mobo being cheaper and missing certain features wouldn't phase 99% of buyers on a pre-built and the PSU concerns seem so overblown otherwise these companies would've stopped shipping systems with them.

If you enjoy building PCs yourself, this likely isn't for you. But for everyone else it gives you the best performance per $ value if you're after a 4080.

Likewise with their 4070 ti deal that's running.

      • +5

I think you are right it caters for different market.
Like there is a big difference if you OC your CPU or not. If you dont Overclock, then you dont need better CPU cooler/MB/PSU to support it.

This is a GOOD deal if you just want to have a machine and plug and play, almost like a console. (Although I would argue 32GB RAM is probably a good idea).

Parts are not "poor" they are just basic. I think that's more appropriate.

Doesnt mean it can't do it's job.

        • R5-7500F: can it be overclock ?

          • +1

@ab c: from what I read around the web, yes it can be. There are suspicion that 7500F are worse "silicon lottery" chips, while 7600X are better. So in general 7600X will OC higher. Thats all rumor right now since we dont have enough test to prove this.

            • @jenesis33: Well done: https://www.amd.com/en/product/13551

Interesting to note AMD commented @ the above link 'AMD`s product warranty does not cover damages caused by overclocking, even when overclocking is enabled via AMD hardware and/or software. GD-26.'

              • +1

@ab c: Generally speaking overclocking these days try to use lower temp (like 85 or 75 max) and reduce voltage. So I don't see how it will damage your chip comparing to the default higher voltage higher temp setting (which is more stable but yeah )

      • My 2080ti build is still going solid from before covid been hoping techfast do a 4090 build at some point

      • Up-vote for listing brand & model.

      • hasn't missed a beat.

        a 3080 build would have had a 3600 or 5600 in it?

You can say it hasnt missed a beat, but i know my 8700k cant handle games as optimally as i would like and its a better cpu.

People play different games with different needs and the 7500f, mobo and ram are mismatched, it might just get 120fps today, but in 2 years, its gunna be struggling at 90 or less, and even if the 4080 starts to show its age, atleast you can turn down the graphics.

        • +1

The ram is the only concern for this build imo.

I went with an upgrade to the 7600x on the last deal and plan on 4k gaming so for my use case even the 7800X3D would only make a single digit fps difference due to the gpu bottleneck at 4k.

Even at 1440p this default system is great value for money and if you're seeing performance hits as I started to, sell it and buy their next deal.

I sold my 3080 on marketplace and the upgrade to this pc was a total of just over $700 after owning the 3080 for 3 years and adding the 2 year warranty.

      • +2

TBH if you enjoy building PCs this would make you salty. You can't build this exact system for this price. No chance!

        • +2

Exactly - there's so many people who comment how shit the parts are in these builds but the reality is it actually works out better to recycle these pre-builds every 2-4 years.

I know plenty of people who sell their builds in that time frame and purchase a new build vs mates who build their own and it works out better financially to do exactly that.

          For just over $700 I went from a 3 year old 3080/5900x/3200 ddr4 ram to a 4080/7600x/6000mhz DDR5 set-up with 2 years warranty.

Unless you LOVE building, these builds are the best value for money if you are keen to upgrade regularly.

Works out much cheaper than upgrading your older build part by part imo and from forum discussions/personal experiences.

        • +2

it largely depends on Video card price. Rest you can manage pretty similar
CPU 7500F (stock cooler included) is not on retail in Aus, but in China it is around 1200 RMB which is 250 bucks.
MB cheapest B650 you can get 184 dollars
          RAM 100 dollar for a 16GB set
          SSD: 1TB SSD 60 bucks
          PSU; 750 W gold cheapest 100 dollars

          Case: whatever lets say 70

So total without GPU = 764 dollars. any sale will get you pretty close to 700-750.

Now you just need a 4080. The deal here is 2400.

2400-750=1650 to play with. It is pretty close to the price of 4080 right now.Cheapest as of today is around 1750.

So you are not MILES off, specially if you can land a 4080 for like 1600ish.

I mean just look at Nebula PC post, they use Partpicker to show you the price you would need to pay if you build yourself. and it is not hugely different.

Their recent 4070TI build show the difference is about 100-150 dollars which is same margin as the calculation i did above. (I think they overvalue the CPU a bit since that part is not on sale in AUS yet). Most of the difference comes from GPU.

Nowadays building a cheap high end gaming PC all depends on what price you can get for your GPU.

    • Having bought this build and using for over a week now I believe it is great value for money. the 7500f pairs fine with the GPU and have not run into a CPU bottle neck currently. RAM and cpu can be upgraded in the future (AM5 is quite new so no rush). The only issue I had was the nvme drive isn't the best, but had already planned to pick up a better 2tb drive on the way to getting this PC and use the one provided as a secondary drive.

Motherboard is good enough, I have no complaints, and PSU is fine.

      • What wifi card and/or wifi usb received did you use?

        • +3

you can't use a wifi card as the GPU covers over the secondary slot of the motherboard. But I'm also using the ethernet port and not using wifi.. You could either get a good usb receiver or find a m.2 slot wifi chip

      • +1

        Great…

Feel free to share the brand, model # (all parts) and CPU benchmark results.

        R5-7500F is relatively-new & it'll be interesting to see how fast it's…if appropriately spec: beef-up VRM, cpu-tower-cooler & 6000MHz ram ?
        FYI, none of the base-deals (7500F & 7600) come with a beef-up VRM Mobo…may be too expensive ?

TechSpot just published this 18-Sep-23-> https://www.techspot.com/review/2728-ryzen-7500f-vs-core-134…

Buyers are likely hoping to get close to R5-7600 grunt-> https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-5-7600-non-x/19…

        Thanks for sharing.

      • Motherboard is good enough, I have no complaints, and PSU is fine.

        What's your PSU brand please?

        • XPG Kyber 750w

    • +5

Everyone mentions "crap components" with techfast builds, and this line is repeated by some other prebuilders as a justification for their higher prices, but I'm not sure this is a fair representation. The 7500F is a great gaming CPU, and the other parts are on the cheaper end but still solid enough for a value-focused build: B650 board, 750W Gold ATX 3.0 PSU, 1TB Gen 4 SSD, nice enough (if generic) case…

Memory is the only part I would consider crap tier on this build, and that's easy enough to swap yourself if desired.

  • +5

Would it be possible to get an upgrade option for the Ryzen 7 7800X3D? It costs about the same as the 7900 (the x3d is $13 cheaper on pc part picker), but the gaming performance is much better.

  • tfw you spend 2.3k get 6 corez only

  • +1

Knowing anything about the motherboard would be nice. E.g. number of USB ports.

    • -1

      Did you click the link?

AMD B650 motherboard compatible with AMD Ryzen 7000 series CPUs. 4-DIMM DDR5 (RAM) slots. Features two M.2 PCIe 4.0 slots, USB 2.0, USB 3.0 inputs, GbE LAN. Does not feature on-board WiFi. A second PCIE device (e.g. network card, installed post-purchase) will not fit with RTX 3070 graphics cards and above.

      • +2

I did click the link. I asked about the number of USB ports. You went to the trouble of pasting the specifications (thank you). That does not show the number of USB ports.
btw I didn't downvote you. You were trying to be helpful.

  • Pulled the trigger, been meaning to replace my current rig.

    Cheers!

  • Anyone know if/when GPU prices are going to become sane again?

    • +1

maybe next year if both AMD and Nvidia release decent cards and price them right.
right now amd is so far back that Nvidia puts whatever price it wants

      • -1

I mean… they aren't unless you really care about raytracing, which no-one actually does. There's a pretty healthy mix of both brands at the top end:

        https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-gpus,4380.html

        • Not really, I have AMD but current gen is rubbish , no competition to 4090 , and 4080 is only a bit more and better , ray tracing, then dlss and vr, and don't forget power consumption, AMD just didn't show up this gen , it not a new gen at all, they just cracked up the lower consumption, lazy

          • +1

@botchie: I literally linked to benchmarks showing they are neck and neck for non-ray tracing, but sure.

            • -1

@caitsith01: This is literally from the link you decided to link lol.
“ Across our suite of gaming benchmarks, (4090)it's 35% faster overall than the RTX 4080. It's also 51% faster than AMD's top performing RX 7900 XTX — though it also costs about 60% more.”

    • +1

Once Battlemage is benchmarked and Intel shows that a TSMC 5nm monolithic GPU with 4070 Ti class raster AND raytracing performance plus 16GB VRAM can be sold for AU$700

Only then will AMD discount the garbage mid-tier RDNA 3 cards to their true value whilst replacing them with newer "trust our chiplets this time bro" mid-tier RDNA 4 cards

NV will not reduce prices - they can launch the 4080 Ti anytime if Intel or AMD get serious and still maintain their 90% market share until 50 series launches in 2025

  • +1

I bought this deal when it came up a few weeks ago.
I'm really impressed with the service. Cable management was good, everything was packed perfectly. Highly recommended.

The RTX 4080 is way bigger in the case than I imagined.

    • What's the unnamed PSU please?

      • +1

PNY as listed in the post - runs very cool. Yet to see mine top 62 degrees.

  • Thank you. Bit the bullet with the 32GB RAM upgrade. Good value for $89 extra.

    • +1

Wow they changed it!! Good work listening TechFast!

      • Good guys Techfast!

  • +2

Very tempting, but I'm holding out for a board with wifi.

    • +1

Same. Looked at USB wireless cards and they’re all garbage and cant support Bluetooth at the same time as wifi. No wifi card possible at all is an insanely annoying compromise. Save us techfast 🙏

      • +1

I just discovered Powerline adapter and it changed my life entirely. No need to care for Wifi anymore as Ethernet is the way to go!

As for Bluetooth a cheap dongle would do the trick. I got an USB hub lying around so will be using that for all extra Bluetooth dongles.

        • +1

So funny you mention this cuz a mate also brought up Powerline when we were discussing whether I get this deal or not. Mind blown, what an incredible technology that NO ONE knows about! High speed Ethernet over the power wires in the walls of your house for those who don’t know, completely erases my need for a wifi card here and is deffo a superior solution.

          • +1

@hobbsey1: Aye. Got my TP Link 2000AV for $60 pre-owned from some guy who got different circuits running in his home. Worked flawlessly with 40% of the RRP cost.

Best part is that it also worked through a power board as well because the damn thing is huge haha

  • -3

Bottleneckcity even with 4k dlss, baldurs gate 3 probably runs sub 50 fps in act 3 on a 7500

  • Is this worth the upgrade over 4070 for 1440p casual gaming but would probably be using the same system for years to come..?

  • Is it possible to pick it up in Adelaide?? The postage cost is $53.85 which can be saved if I pick it up in person..

  • Anyone know what the despatch times are ATM?

    • +1

Mine was ordered on 20 Sept and still no shipping notification yet. Granted I did request a few changes which have all been charged.

    • +2

Same as the other guy. Ordered on the 20th and got nothing since

    • Not a great look. The website said 5-10 days despatch times when I ordered a couple days ago, and youse are at day 15 and counting with no heads up? @luketechfast could you give us an update?

      • +1

Caleb did get back to me saying that my PC should be done today and shipped early next week. To be fair they did state 5-10 business days but counting today and exclude 20 Sept as the order date I'd say it still goes beyond their 10 business day mark. I'll follow up with Techfast and see how it goes.

Also a heads up for people wanting to upgrade to the Ryzen 9 7900: apparently it does not come with the stock Wraith Prism cooler so take that what you will.

  • +1

Got my computer, it runs perfectly and no issues with shipping or damage. Absolute legends thank you! ps. they even left the plastic film on the tempered glass for me to peel

  • Got the PC today. Too easy getting Windows 11 on it. Thanks Luke and Caleb for your hard-working!

  • I just want to point out because this worried me a little because Im not near my modem.
Techfast sent me this system & everything seems amazing so far. Even went out of the way to accomodate my notes.
BUT despite what the disclaimer says about the 650 m-atx motherboard not fitting a wifi card, I seem to have got one in with about 1 cm from the GPU fan, id say it covers maybe 10% of one fan. So some wifi cards will absolutely fit with this motherboard if that is a concern.
Thanks a lot luke & techfast team 👌🏽.
