    I admittedly didn't look to deep into this, but after checking yeah, it looks like the reason for the price drop is to potentially match other promos going on at the moment. IMO, this is no different to when Amazon groceries go to 1/2 price to match supermarket promos but I'm not too across the gameworld. I just had a Cx3 alert for Codenames since my ex took it when we broke up and I wanted to buy another one without spending more than 20 bucks lol.

  I bought the physical versions of Codenames games and my regular group always ended up playing the online version at https://codenames.game because it's more competitive. The boards of the online version are not completely random, they distribute words so that the synonyms (or those that are in the same category) are on both sides. It makes the game more challenging for the spymasters but more enjoyable overall.
