    Cheers OP!

Had to cancel my pre-order at the previous price of $396 and re-order at this lower price.

Side-question: Is MGEX or PG Strike Freedom better?

    • +5

MGEX have better details (and a slightly more interesting building experience), but PG Strike Freedom definitely have the shelf presence. If you plan on doing further etching, spray painting, and other custom stuff to it PG will be better. If you are doing a straight build, you probably will be happier with the MGEX.

      • Cheers! I got the MGEX from a recent deal but have had my eye on the PG for some time.

I haven't done any customisations or anything before, so I reckon I'll have a better time with the MGEX.

Nevertheless, still got some time to cancel the order for the PG if I change my mind

MGEX SF is a much newer kit, PG SF was released in December 2010.

      • lol thought i was going crazy with the "will be released on October 27, 2023."

      • Didn't realise PG SF is very old now! Not sure now if I want to spend $250 for a 13+ y/o gunpla.

        • Plenty of great old kits. Kits from the 80's still get reruns even.

  • Damn OP…. I haven't thought about this since I was a kid and now I need to spend $100's on it.

  • any good MG deals running ATM?

    • +1

Frontline hobbies has a few for 15-30% off, might be worth a look

  • Great price! Do it. Do it nao

  • 1/60 scale? What is this? A Gundam for ants?

    • Might wanna check your math, this is one of the larger kits lmao

      • +2

The Gundam has to be at least…. three times bigger than this!

Funnily enough, the Amazon listing says it's 99mm tall, but in reality 1/60 scale is around 300mm tall, which is three times as much :-D

        • No idea what amazon is on, but yeah the kit is approx 300mm tall :D

        • How about the 1/48 Rx-78-2?

  • Just be aware that buying from Amazon for these kits is hit and miss, had one set that came through right away.

My freedom MGEX however from the last deal (Aug 12th) is still under order received. It's been over a month without it being sent!

      That one was a pre-order for mid-April 2024.

I had the same order until I recently purchased one from Frontline Hobbies.

      • +1

        2024! Holy I totally didn't see that.

I will legit give you $10 in filament, $50 in time and whatever postage if you can make something as good this.

      • -1

10x filament cost, $100 in time since we'd be doing multi-filament and high resolution, then another $200 to give a damn

  • nice! this goes for 400$ normally, great price?

How did you find this? I've been trying to find a reliable way to watch amazon japan deals but haven't found one yet

    • +1

I just go to the Amazon Japan Storefront via this link then search. You can switch to desktop mode if you want to check if the search box is searching only Amazon Japan. Sometimes when you choose the suggested search it switches back to Amazon AU

Reminds me of my first Gundam, a PG red astray almost 10 years ago.

  • +3

Found 2 more PG available for pre order. PG Exia and PG Banshee Norn

Edit another one PG Strike Rouge + Skygrasper

  • Recently played Armored Core 6, which led me to watching Mobile Suit Gundam Origin, which led me to buying my first kit and I feel like I'm going to be broke soon…

Anyone got any tips for a noob who hasn't opened the box yet? I bought an MG RX-78-2.

    • Get a good set of nipper to cut the parts cleanly from the gates. Then file/cut/sand the nubs away. Check out some tutorials on YouTube. I personally have only done 3 HG kits so still learning as I go along.

    • For beginner, I would recommend to get a Tamiya Sharp-Point Side Cutter. It is very robust and suitable for most model kits.

      • I got one of these and strongly recommend it. That paired with a Tamiya hobby knife and I've been basically set.

I think Godhand ones are sharper, but slightly less durable

    • If your first kit is a MG:
-Go slow as there are a lot of small parts.
-Don't put too much pressure on the parts.
-Double check where you have to cut.

  • Sorry, I am new to this. What is the price of this usually, please?

    • Around $400.

    Best Swiss Army Knife ever…

  • I had no idea what I was reading in the title but I saw a bargain thinking it was a good quality 60 tool Swiss army style piece when I saw the thumbnail.
Turned out to be something else I have no idea about but man that looks cool af!

  • Im also really interested in one of these, though i am totally new to this.
What else do i need to buy? Just a pair of nippers and a filer?
Also is this gundam built like lego after i take the parts out?

If some could point me to the right direction, its all quite confusing for me 😅

I saw the link to the gunprimer-raser….. im not sure what it does but looks like i need/want one 😄

    • +2

Yes all you need is nippers and a file.

The kits have grades ranking essentially the ease of build by amount of parts. It goes in order:
      EG, HG, RG, MG, PG.
So with this you'd be in the deep end. Big W stocks a couple EG (entry grade) kits so you could see if you like it the hobby for around $14.

It differs from a lego build in that you're not dealing with a whole bag of loose pieces in front of you. With gundam you read the small section on a page, cut the part/s of the part runners that the page says, then assemble and repeat.

      • Go to the electronics sections of big w and you'll find pokemon cards and some other anime stuff, including some entry grade gundam kits, these cheap and perfect to get into the hobby. You don't need equipment you can just snap out the pieces.

If you like it then start branching out to the other grades.

      • I currently have a MG set from my last trip to japan, its still in the box 😅
I want to get straight into it, though i need a nipper and file.

Any recommendations for these 2 untesil?

The Gunprimer Eraser linked from above, is that a file? Its nice 😁

        • yup it's a very nice file.

I cant really help with nipper, as I got a Godhand right out the gate for $55 and it hasn't dropped that low since. I've heard people say nice things about this guy: https://canberrahobbycentre.com/products/dspiae-st-a3-0-sing… which is from the same seller as the Gunprimer.

I bought a hobby blade and a packet of refills from my local Daiso. I also got a A4 cutting surface while I was there.

Which MG did you pick up?

          • @Nalar: I have a MG RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 03 Phenex.
Last minute purchase a while back 😅

If i pick up the gunprimer eraser, and the nipper you have linked, am i then set to go and build? My MG set?

            • @lyychee: Plus the hobby knife and off you go. Watch some YouTube tutorials on nub removal and have fun!

              • @Nalar: Ive ordered all my tools….
                Now the waiting game.
                Really interested in the
                MGSD gundam and the
                MGEX PG.
Which one should be easier to start on?

                • @lyychee: Start on the MG you got in Japan and then MGSD.

MGEX PG.is actually 2 different version of the same Gundam.

MGEX is Master Grade with extra.
                  PG is perfect grade.

        • Personally, I use cheaper tools with no issue from the usual brands of Bandai, Tamiya, Godhand, etc.

A thing to remember with some of the more expensive tools like the glass file and higher end cutters is that they can be fragile and need to be used with care.

          • +1

            @Gehirn: I feel risky, i dont think im a clumsy person….. 🤣

I think i will risk it with the cool looking eraser.

  • Damn it, Banshee Norn is really tempting….. Must resist…….

    • just get it, then get the after market lighting kit from taobao

  • how much is that usually, is it just LEDs or does it change the plastic bits too

  • Reckon these will actually get sent. Amazon showing 50 sold in the last month and it's still somehow in stock. I've ordered one of each. As long as I get the PG exia I'm happy though lol

    • My PG Strike Rouge + Skygrasper is being prepared for shipping!

  • Just got mine today … woo hoo
