nbn FTTP ISP Porting Problem - Aussie Broadband to More

Hi all. Hope I can get some input here on a ISP transfer issue. This may not be the right forum for this question if so apologies.

Based in NSW and currently on Aussie Broadband FTTP via Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 (previously on Telstra via FTTN). Kept the modem as I have two booster units that connect to it. Wanted to move to a different provider as AB are a bit expensive. Moving from T to AB was seamless.

Signed up with More Telecom and they sent me a message yesterday saying the service was live on port 1 of the NBN box, but I was still connected to AB, on port 1.

Entered the UN and PW they gave me and rebooted but that didn't work. I then went through an hour tech support today where we reset the NBN box and modem and input the details again, twice, but I was still connected to AB.

They then said I would need to contact the manufacturer of my modem, and my current ISP, to discuss with them. Not wanting to spend more hours on the phone, I cancelled my More service and am still on AB.

Am I stuck? Is there a way to move to a new ISP without cancelling, waiting, signing up with a new ISP and buying their modem?

Any input appreciated. Cheers.

Have you tried port 2 on the NBN box at all?

    • Thansk for comment - It's inactive, no flashing light, so no signal was soming in on the second port. (we discussed that on the support call)

Almost definitely as grimace3 suggests active on a different port of the NTD.

    More/Tangerine, they are soooo shit!
Blaming the user equipment when it's quite clearly not a user equipment problem!

    • Thanks. Yeah it was such an obvious passing-the-buck response.

Which ISPs are solid and a bit cheaper than AB? Looking for 250 for $99/month ongoing ideally.

Leaptel. You may need to call Aussie BB if you don't get a cancellation email.

No ISP is that cheap ongoing, even Tangerine/More will bump you to $109 at the end of the promo period and they are bargain basement.
If you want to pay less you're going to have to hop from promo to promo.
Just about anyone is better than Tangerine/More. I'd be wary of Spintel, and I got burned by Dodo more than a decade ago so they're on my never again list.

Any of the TPG companies (TPG, Vodafone, Internode, iiNet), Superloop/Exetel, Optus, and then you get into the smaller more specialty providers like Leaptel, Future Boradband, Launtel.

Not me… I got another discount, just for asking…

or maybe get a better router. with fttp you dont need modem just router

      Another router won't help here.

  • They then said I would need to contact the manufacturer of my modem

What modem? You only need a router.

    • Telstra smart modem can be configured as a router. More Telecom or nbn stuffed up the activation.

  • Did you switch your settings from DHCP to PPPoE ???

    • +1

Telstra modem/routers try PPPoE, and default to DHCP if the PPPoE authentication fails. Outside of inputting PPoE credentials, there's no "switch" to change and OP has already indicated that they've entered PPPoE credentials.

Anyway, we know that NTD Port 1 that More think is active with them, is actually active for ABB, so clearly More are wrong and it's a problem at their and/or NBN's end. No consumer setting can change the fact that More are not active on Port 1.
