Model number 27GP850, please add in title

    • Yes, this information does make a difference.

  • QHD is 2k noh?

    • +3

In consumer products, 2560 × 1440 is often incorrectly referred to as 2K, but it and similar formats are more traditionally categorized as 2.5K resolutions.

      Nah not 2K

  • +3

    QHD is 2k noh?

    Its 2560x1440p
2k is actually 1080p but people coloquially refer to 1440p as 2k incorrectly so i dont know which you meant

    Insane deal.

I paid $499 for one of these about 12 months ago. Absolutely love it.

Note: The LG UltraGear 27GR75Q-B 165Hz is the new model that recently launched to replace this model I believe, and is priced at $429.

In saying that, this monitor (27GP850) is overclockable to 180Hz. Haven't seen many reviews of the 27GR75Q yet

    • Available for $399 at CentreCom which maybe puts a damper on this deal.

    • The question is whether the 27GR replacement is an upgrade or a shrinkflation cost cutter release…

I noticed there is no mention of Nano IPS whereas I think the 27GL is Nano IPS

      • Well the next one up, the GR83Q is 240 Hz so that might be the true replacement, but then you're also paying for an even higher refresh rate you may not want. But yeah none of the 2023 monitors so far have nano IPS panels.

        • Doesn't use an LG panel (some comments mention a BOE panel which are known to have quality issues)

          • @johnnytran: Yep. Shame contrast ratio has stagnated, no one is using IPS Black and to get better I have to deal with VA ghosting or spend like crazy for other features you I don't want like super high refresh rates just to get a half decent picture

    • +2

gp850 still have the better specs (OC 180Hz, Nano IPS etc), but very hard to notice unless you are very sensitive to it.

    • +1

Looking at the spec sheet it appears to be a large downgrade…
      Brightness 400->300
      Color DCI-P3 98% 1.07B -> sRGB 99% 16.7M

  • Unrelated: What's the best way to get rid of old monitors? I've got a three monitor setup and I'm looking to moving on from a whole desktop setup

    • +1

      sell em

    • add to the advertisement 'sim racing/ flight simulator' as people often look for 3-monitor setups.

    • gumtree, fb marketplace, ebay

  • anyone used this one vertically for productivity?

I want the dualup to compliment my ultrafine 32" but too expensive

    • +1

I'm using this as my WFH/gaming setup. Sufficient to do its job

  • Ooo nice - you guys reckon this bests the classic s2721dwg?

    • +2

      Rtings says:

The Dell S2721DGF and the LG 27GP850-B are very similar, each with strengths and weaknesses. The LG has an optional black frame insertion feature, which can help reduce the amount of persistence blur seen on-screen. The Dell has a more versatile stand, as it can swivel and switch to portrait orientation on either side, and it feels a bit better built than the LG.

      • With Dell S2721DGF out of stock/production, what's the next best Dell from OzB pov?

        • +3

G2724D seems to be the replacement, as of a couple weeks ago they put it on a sale that is around the same price the DGF usually went on sale

          • +1

@meeowth: Looking at specs it appears to be a downgrade though I haven't seen any proper reviews of it yet.

  • How does the USB ports in the back of this monitor work? Will it connect to a mouse/keyboard ?

    • It's literally a powered USB hub that is trapped in the monitor. You have to plug the upstream usb port into the PC in order to get the hub to do more than provide power, of course.

  • This monitor is incredible for fast pace games, do the UFO ghosting test on it, its unbeatable for its price.

    • I picked up a Gigabyte M27Q-P for $469, but you can't seem to find them in Aus anymore (just normal M27Q). $419 for this monitor is great, too. The monitor market has improved so much over the last few years.

  • currently running 2x of these, great screens, went from a 60hz Dell Ultrasharp to these and love the refresh rate!

  • How would this perform as a PS5 monitor aside from the size consideration?

    • +1

Ever since the PS5 got the 1440p support update it is fine. The PS5 will be able to run at 120hz as well.

      • this over the 4k Dell G3223Q for PS5 gaming?
        can't make up my mind.

        • +1

If you don't mind the price, the 32 inch is bigger and it's 4k, and the lower 144hz refresh rate is irrelevant since the PS5 maxes out at 120hz.

Plus, any games you play at 1080p for better fps will look better on a 4k than on a 1440p

          • @meeowth: thanks - im currently using a aw3821dw as my sole monitor for pc gaming and productivity and im used to ultrawide now. The aw3821dw doesn't play nice with the ps5, black bars on side, no picture in picture so i can't run it side by side with my pc, but i love that it's so neat on my desk now. i'm strongly considering 2x G3223Qs to use with the ps5, but going back to dual and bezels between screens seems like a step back…

  • Thanks, been looking for a decent mid range monitor for work & gaming. This looks like it fits the bill & a decent price.

    Bought! Cheers mate

We are all team Dell. Other monitor companies have a lot of catching up to do if they want to compete with Dell for value.

    • Rtings taking their sweet time to review the G2724D.

  • +2

Thank you OP! I just bought this at officeworks with 5% pricebeat for 398.05aud

  • Based on Rtings sample at the very least, the LG has much better OOTB accuracy than the Dell. Yes it's not exactly great evidence that this is consistent across all models, but it's food for thought. I believe it was confirmed somewhere LG at least partially calibrates these displays. Given 99% of people are never going to bother using calibration tools and software, I'd wager OOTB metrics are very important.

  • Thinking about pulling the trigger on this one since reasonably priced monitors with proper HDR don't seem like they'll be a reality any time soon…

  • Are there any reasons not to get this monitor?
In my last monitor purchase, I got burned by marketing tactics blurring reality of product being worse than appeared, so I’ve been anxious when approaching monitor deals.

Is the sub pixel layout RGB? Good response time or just misleading marketing numbers? HDR for movies?
Use is lots of reading, gaming and movies.

    • Finally, about HDR performance, while the 27GP850 has received a DisplayHDR 400 certification and supports HDR inputs, it fundamentally lacks the hardware required for proper HDR like a full-array local dimming backlight. So I wouldn't think of this as an HDR monitor in your buying decision.

      https://www.techspot.com/review/2251-lg-27gp850/

So maybe a miss if you're after HDR for movies. Contrast is pretty low too, typical of IPS panels. Seems good otherwise though.

Thank you OP, JB HiFi in Joondalup (WA) price matched this for me - local warranty, click & collect.
I bought it for my adult grandson who along with many of his mates is an online gamer. Hooked up to his PS5 (which has no DP port, but HDMI next best thing & also frequency is limited to 120 but that's ok too) & it runs extremely well & looks great. Put a smile on his face for the first time since his best mate got killed in a car crash a few months ago (he was only 19 too). Easily up there with my Dell S2721DGF. Cheers :)
