Up to 36,000 Bonus Qantas Points with Purchase of Case of Select Wines @ Qantas Wine

70

Qantas Wine is just one of many, many ways to earn Qantas Points without flying, and Qantas know this, even offering the means to filter wine based on points! 🙂

Anyway, it’s always worth keeping an eye on their wine, and bonus points deals, and one today – while it’s not cheap, coming in at $69.50 a bottle, their Outstanding Chardonnay + Cabernet Shiraz Dozen case can earn you 36,000 Qantas points, plus whatever you get on your credit card as well.

Of course there are plenty of others with points offers, so take a look!

These aren't really a deal, the amount of people on Facebook who think they're getting great wine with huge bonus points. But in reality Qantas is palming off the wine they can't move

Most the wines with huge bonus points, are those wines with high recommended retail prices that other retailers are selling for half the price or even lower as secret deals

So you're not getting wine even with half that amount, you just getting inflated high recommended retail priced wine.

If you're going to buy points, you may as well just buy them off someone else or get someone else to book a flight for you like they do with Krisflyer.

I swear to god I always laugh at people on facebook spending hundreds or thousands of dollars buying s***** wine for bonus points.

I understand some people buy these wines to give them a Christmas or for birthdays, which is fair enough. I guess most people aren't knowledgeable with wine and may actually believe the retail price if they googled the wine.

But I rarely see great wines with huge bonus points, because great wine sell themselves.

    • Yeah the real prices of the wine is less then half the rrp but it can still be okay if you need some quick points and are going to drink the wine.

I reckon Qantas Wine is good for three things:

They sometimes seem to end up with a case or two from one of my favourite small wineries that just sits there until I buy it in a sale. Nobody else is looking for those. I figure they had some important client(s) who wanted that wine and ended up with leftovers.

Quaffable red wine in-flight mini-bottles when they're on sale (go for the best reviewed), because it doesn't require you to open a full bottle when you just want a glass with dinner. Also handy in situations where carrying a heavy glass bottle is undesirable, e.g. picnic. You can get a case for 9000 points on sale. Shipping is free if you have the Qantas Amex.

Deeply discounted random selections of quality wine. I had an incredible bottle of a wine you can't buy anymore that turned up in a Business Class set of mixed reds at 60% off. Everything else in the case was fine. This is where they palm off unused single bottles.

This. My wife loved the bargains on the mini bottles, makes her feel less like a booze hag ;) and we've had some scores on clearance reds that have worked out well price wise - what we might pay for a red ourselves (ie not much) and still get bonus points.

        • Seppeltsfield 2022 Grenache in economy class mini bottles currently $66 for 24 (equivalent to 6 normal bottles of wine) which is 34% off. Not special, but quite drinkable. Average review for this vintage 3.8/5 on Vivino.

P.S. Wine in plastic bottles is for drinking, not keeping, so anybody buying this should only do so for current use.

I agree with most of what you wrote. The wines and ones no one wants and can’t get rid of for inflated price.

However it is still a legal way of buying points.
$800 odd for 36000 vs $1000 odd top up. (However overpriced they are since I value them at around 1c). But if you need points quick it is an expensive option.

Buying them from the classifieds and or people booking them for you goes against the T&Cs. And whilst your and mine risk level may be lower to do that, for others maybe not.

You are better off chasing Credit card signup bonuses for points IMO but then again that may not be an option for all.

Then there is the availability of premium reward seats with Qantas which has significantly decreased from partners post pandemic if that is what a person is chasing. YMMV.

Yup. A few years ago we needed a few points to reach the level of being able to get a couple of business class tickets to Europe. Buying the wine put us over the edge.

Qantas can cancel both the sender and receivers points, and membership, if you aren’t family. Given what they are trying to claw back they may start getting more diligent with that.

  • The Alkoomi dozen is not bad value if you want the points. The price is roughly equivalent to what you pay elsewhere.

It's not great value but better than buying points. That's the bottom line.

  • I have $50 wine voucher not sure why, I think you automatically get one when signing up for FFLyer. worth checking your account for this voucher, as I wasn't notified I had one and it expires soon.

Anyway, gonna buy whiskey not a bunch of crap wine. Thanks.

    • Are you a Points Club member? You get a $50 Qantas wine voucher each year with Points Club

      • it's a birthday voucher it appears. now to find something worth using it on 🤔

    • Same boat. Was given $50 wine voucher. I don’t drink but got the mrs half a case of wine for not that much out of pocket. She was happy with the wine.

The wines retail about 65 each so 6 for $330 plus 12K in points is a decent deal.
