looks like S for SMART ILLUMINATION
looks like S for SMART ILLUMINATION
I think S is for SECURITY.
I read the only difference Bolt is certified to use in secure environments (government? banks?) where unifying wasn't secure enough.
It has an S on it
The Logitech MX Keys S is a newer version of the Logitech MX Keys. The MX Keys S only has minor physical differences in its shortcuts on the F-row. It also has an auto-brightness feature that adjusts the backlighting according to your environment, and it provides more options for customizing the backlighting using the software, while the older MX Keys only allows you to toggle the lighting on or off. The other major difference is that the MX Keys S connects wirelessly via Bluetooth or with the Logi BOLT receiver. In contrast, the older MX Keys connects wirelessly via Bluetooth or the Logitech Unifying Receiver.
Compatibility with the Bolt receiver is great, as you can use one receive for another Bolt-compatible Logitech device (such as a mouse).
The previous keyboards used the old ‘unifying’ receiver… the whole product line was a mess RE which receivers were used for different devices. Looks like they’re cleaning that all up now.
Yeah it is very handy. I have both my MX Master 3S and MX Keys S connected to one single receiver versus the old way which would take up 2 USB ports
@Menzoberranzan: Nice. I bought my gf a MX Anywhere 3S “for business” model in order to use a single Bolt receiver with a MX Keys Mini keyboard, as the regular Anywhere 3S mouse used the old receiver.
Am mentioning this as there used to be “business” models of items that DID use the Bolt receivers. Perhaps they’ll start to be discounted as the regular models get refreshed?
versus the old way which would take up 2 USB ports
Nope, my MX Keys and MX Master 3 are connected to the one Unifier receiver, that is the entire point of the "Unifier" part of that dongle:
"Connect up to 6 compatible keyboards and mice to one computer with a single Unifying receiver – and forget the hassle of multiple USB receivers."
The difference is that the Bolt receivers use encrypted transmission.
@snuke: It might be the 3S that is Bolt only. And the 3 is Unifying.
Again, the product line up until now has been a bit of a mess, and some products were Unifying only and some were Bolt only, meaning if you got a keyboard of one type and a mouse of another type, you would indeed need to use two USB ports, unless you used Bluetooth.
The confusion was a source of a huge number of complaints, especially as some products were Unifying only, except for special “business editions” of those same products that WERE Bolt only.
It might be the 3S that is Bolt only. And the 3 is Unifying
Correct, they do not work across each other. Bolt is low energy Bluetooth, Unifier is Radio Both are 2.4GHz, just different ways of using the spectrum
As per anytime a new tech comes in there will always be a mix of old an new, and you need to pay attention to what you are doing

@snuke: Really? I'll take a closer look as I also have a G915 Keyboard and G502 mouse that are on the Unifying receivers and I have both of them plugged in.
Edit: Nope. Can't do. Apparently I can only pair both together if my mouse was a G502 X. Instead I have a G502 Hero Lightspeed and that is not supported. Need to have both receivers in still
@Menzoberranzan: You can also use Bluetooth if you are trying to save USB port.
@Indomietable: If your corporate laptop will allow that
@Indomietable: Would there be a reason not to use bluetooth? Not sure why you wouldn't…
@Kiran90: Mainly security. Some govt agencies don't allow older bluetooth because no or weak encryption.
Bolt is based on Bluetooth but one of the thing they add is additional strong encryption.
Thank you! Was trying to find the difference the other day but couldn't find much.
Fixes all the bugs of the previous model. The backlight issue had been ongoing for long time now.
S model is more silent too
seems strange this new one is cheaper than the original MX keys….$199 at OW and this one is $169
If it doesn't have local warranty, then it is grey import.
no, these are both on Officeworks
I've been looking to buy one of these.
For others looking, its currently:
$169 at JB HIFI and Officeworks
$209 at Amazon (although they have the white version for $169)
And as per usual HN has withdrawn it from sale "OOS" so they don't have to price match… not that you should be buying it from there anyway.
This Ebay seller isn't rated that highly though… looks to be issues with delayed shipping going by feedback. Has Ebay Plus protections though.
Edit: For what its worth I ended going with the grey/white from Amazon. It's about as cheap as you're going to get with this keyboard (according to camels has never been this low).
The problem with this kind of small seller is that Logitech may decline your warranty claim.
Yeah, that's what scared me off and went with Amazon. Also no real idea where they've sourced their stock.
Shape of the enter key bugs me..
Wrong picture. You get the straight enter key as shown on RTINGS.
it's the same wrong pic on amazon & jb? https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/logitech-mx-keys-s-advanc…
Yeah the JB picture shows the overseas enter key and shorter left shift key.
Logitech MX Keys S in AU gets the straight enter key and longer left shift key.
@Twix: Thank you. All is well with the world.
@Supercool: Thanks for pointing it out though. Amazon has the same 'dual picture' advertising. Some pics show the smaller enter/shift key setup, other pics show the normal one. The one I bought better have the normal, otherwise its going back! Typing with a small shift and enter button would be horrible.
How do you know for sure what this seller will supply?
That pic is the Euro spec, that maybe what they actually have.
The Logitech MX Keys S Graphite MPN on Ls2-89 eBay AU matches Logitech AU.
Keyboard | MPN |

Logitech MX Keys S Graphite - Ls2-89 seller on eBay AU | 920-011563 |
Logitech MX Keys S Graphite - Logitech AU | 920-011563 |
Logitech MX Keys S Graphite - Logitech UK | 920-011584 |
@Twix: cool
That's a deal breaker for me. They sacrifice pipe …. Power user need to pipe!
dam just bought the $300 bundle from amazon last week
Logitech MX Keys S Combo - Performance Wireless Keyboard and Mouse with Palm Rest
Why not buying this one?
doesn't include postage mate… more expensive
The rating of seller is only 96%. Does anyone have experience with the seller?
for a second I thought I posted this post whilst scrolling today, truly was shocked for a second
And i was thinking when did i post this comment. Are you me or am I you? You are not you, you're me!
How is the S model different?
