    Nice find, also noticed -

Orient Auto SAC00009N0 (blue hands)$197.58 delivered
Orient Auto Pilot Style (tan dial)$193.72 delivered (3 in stock)

    Not just for men either.

    • Wow someone bought a pilot & the price jacked up to $567.76.

good deal. orient is owned by seiko i believe, and afaik completely in-house manufacture. they don't outsource low quality stuff from china or similar foreign sources - every part is build in Japan to Orient's high standards. A lot of value to be had in these watches. I read that even the oil used for lubrication in Orient watches is manufactured internally by Orient.

fwiw, I bought Orient watches for brothers' wedding gifts. They don't wear them because they prefer smart watches… sigh.

    • +2

Sigh. Same here, wife wants me to have a smart watch but they just don't feel right.

I think I'm getting a hybrid withings but yeah I prefer this type.

      • +2

I used to be a watch nerd (ok maybe not as watchnerdy as the WatchNerd) but now I have a high paced job and need to be notified about things, so for the past 2 or so years it's smart watches for me.

        video killed the radio star!

even when I go out, it's Samsung galaxy watch 4 classic (black, with a custom fit black alloy band) with some classic watch looking face. closest I come to wearing a real one. sigh!

        • +12

How did all the high paced workers cope 15 years ago?

          • +2

@MS Paint: T-15y what are we talking about here, 2007-2008? I had a pocketable Nokia phone and I was getting text messages. I was lucky as all the important text messages were coming from same phone numbers, and I had custom ringtones assigned

I could probably do that with the current tech and screw the smartwatchery, but not yanking your (huge, S22U we're talking here) phone out every time something comes through is priceless, I guess

            first world problems! ta daaaa

            • +1

              @shabaka:

but not yanking your … phone out every time something comes through is priceless

I wish I had the luxury of putting my phone into a pocket, but those crucial nanoseconds wasted on quick-drawing today’s most lethal business weapon is too high a price to pay. Second place is for the first loser

          • @MS Paint: BlackBerry

            • @tharlow: yah. never had one myself, but them used to be good. too bad they screwed themselves over into oblivion

              • @shabaka: iPhone

                • +3

@tharlow: same story, I wouldn't touch iPhone with someone else's 10ft titanium pole

                  overpriced toys

          • @MS Paint: Cocaine

      • Fwiw I've been really loving my fossil hybrid. Kinda best of both worlds

        • Yes I have a skagen and now just got a withings scan watch. I prefer the more than 5 min battery life and so far I like the look and feel

      • +2

Wear both. I've been wearing a watch on my left wrist for time keeping and a smart watch (actually it's more a smart band) on the other side to monitor vital signs

        • Honest question, why does anyone monitor vital signs? Unless you have a diagnosed medical condition and alert software set up to contact someone if the watch thinks you are in trouble, what does anything else do?

I don't need a watch to tell me my heartrate is up.

  • +2

Simple n clean. What’s not to like

    • That's what she said.

      • +3

Even with under 2 inches? Her number pls.

    • +1

      UK charger.
I want AU charger with my Bambino.

  • +1

Great watches. Well worth the money.

  • +3

I can vouch for the Bambino, really nice watch, easily the best value auto in my collection, my only niggle is that it wears bigger than the 40.5mm it actually is, I would prefer it in a 38mm or 39mm.

    • I think other versions in 38mm

      • I only can seem to find 40.5mm ones

  • Nice price! Love the bambino I purchased on prime day, the case thickness looks very slim on the hand which I like

  • I bought the green one last time…for some reason overnight it seems to stop working or something for a while and I wake up to a different time. Called to get it replaced but they can only refund.

    • +6

You do realise what an automatic watch is?

      • Yeah but I've never had it adjust it daily when wearing it daily (8+ hours, I'm walking a lot).

        • +1

Have you tried winding it before you go to bed?

        • +11

If it's stopping the night following a full day of wearing it, it is indeed faulty. Should have a ~40 hour power reserve.

          • @O15: Thanks, hopefully I can get it fixed for fairly cheap :)

            • +4

@helpme: I doubt there's anything wrong with it. It's just not fully wound up.

              • +2

@WatchNerd: Ah you're probably right, I remember my first automatic I had to fully wind it up first, I think I missed that step. Big thanks again!

              • +1

@WatchNerd: There should be a default paragraph for every automatic watch listed on ozbargain.

Blah blah blah, not a quartz, blah blah blah, need to give it a good wind blah blah blah.

                • +1

@MS Paint: Yep sometimes if I've got nothing to do I will move my wrist back & forth to wind up my watch and for no other reason.

              • @WatchNerd: Eight hours of wear should be enough to keep the movement running through the night, though?

        • Hope you are using it left hand

  • Got 1 thanks

  • +3

    Teddy Bulbasaur approves

    • kindly thank you for letting us know

      • warm regards

        • how warm are we talking here, just out of curiosity

          • @shabaka: As warm as a mother in law's kiss

            • @vee_el: an ex mother in law? deal, reference secured

    • The boi that sleeps with FTX Kevin O’Leary?

  • +1

Would this be good as a first watch for daily/business-casual? Or can suggest alternative first-watches as I'm not familiar with watches. I like the clean look, but would prefer a metal strap.

    • +3

      Yes.

    • +1

As a gateway into automatic watches, can't go wrong with seiko and/or orient. My first two were orient bambino gen 2 v1 and the bambino open heart. Gorgeous and i love the domed glass. I think the only drawback is the less common lug width at 21mm

      • Would you be able to recommend any straps to accompany the Bambino?

      • +1

And no sapphire. I still love mine though with all their scratches

        • That is a good point I missed, does it scratch quite easily and noticeably?

          • @hjin: Not really noticeable unless light hits it at a certain angle. And they kinda soften over time

    • +2

Probably not. The included strap won't be fantastic and will probably wear quickly.
The crystal is not sapphire and sits proud of the bezel so scratches are likely.

Something like the Orient Kamasu would make for a good daily watch. It's pretty robust, has sapphire crystal, looks fantastic and can be had for under $400.

There are plenty of other good options, though.

  • This is my 3rd OzBargain watch. The others being Seiko Prospex and Steeldive.

  • No sapphire crystal is a killer

    • +2

When it gets beat up just replace it with a sapphire front and exhibition rear for a new lease of life.

  • Tossing up the white/silver or the warmer yellow….what to do….

    • Warm yellow, that's a new one.

      • +1

        They're in custardy.

        I'll get me coat.

  • +2

    Special feature: Second Hand :)

    • +4

And I thought they were BNIB

    • Didn't even notice that, how unfortunate. Cancelling my order :(

      • +1

        Lol

        • +6

For those who may not understand the joke, the second hand is a third wand inside the watch that sweeps around counting every second, thus moving the minute hand forward.

          This product is not used.

          • +5

@James-A: It's never a good sign if you need to explain the joke but on this occasion I think it's a valid exception.

  • +1

Heads up for those with smaller wrists, you might find 40.5mm a bit too big for your wrist. Better to go for <38mm

  • Any idea when this price will end?

    • Best to buy first think later.

      • are bambinos only sold locally in japan?

        • +1

No. Several online merchants stock them. Until recently, my preferred one was dutyfreeisland.com.
          Sadly, they are no more.

  • Bloody love the Bambino

  • +1

Does the open heart version ever go on sale?

    • There's is a used one @ Amazon Warehouse for $221.14. Medium scratch on glass, housing & wrist strap.

    • not sure about now, but I got mine early 2021 for just under $200

  • +3

Be warned. This could be the start of a seriously expensive hobby.

  • I rather have a Kentex.

  • mine just arrived. It has a rattling sound when i shake it, quite audible. Is this a normal part of the automatic mechanism?

    • nevermind, its a known 'feature' of the bambino movement

      • It should be a 'feature' of any automatic mechanical watch if I'm not mistaken :)

Last time I posted this it jacked pretty quickly, probably after one or two purchases.
