These gel wrist pads probably do more harm than good. If you end up resting your wrist on them, they're just going to compress the wrist nerves and ligaments, which is precisely the opposite of what you want.
The idea of these is to enforce the ergonomic principle that your wrists shouldn't fall below your hands to the desk surface while you're typing or mousing. But they do it by raising the surface to your wrists - which just creates the wrist compression that the whole "elevated wrist" ergonomic principle is meant to avoid.
When using a mouse or keyboard for an extended period, your wrists shouldn't be resting on anything, they should be supported in the air by your arms. If that's not possible, then a mouse or trackball that allows you to keep your wrists sideways is a better option.
I tried this once at my uncle's place and its a horrible investment. I wouldnt use it if somebody paid me to use it.
I can't believe there are so many of these on sale. Resting and putting pressure on your wrist is the best way to get carpel tunnel.
