  • A genuine question, Do they have better sound quality than AirPods Pro 1st Gen?

    • +5

I like their sound quality, but the noise cancellation is average at best. Also quite big, making them uncomfortable if you want to fall asleep while listening to something. Had them for 11 months and the right one stopped working, so not sure if quality is good enough. Also, they were $159 for ages, so its not really 46% off.

      • Thanks mate

sound is subjective - but i really do enjoy the Sennheiser sound signature…
punchy bass, sparkly treble and wide soundstage….

    • Whether how earphones sound has alot to do with

      1. The design and mechanics of the ear piece
      2. The tune of the earpiece (neutral, bass v etc focus) on top of above
      3. Your ears and how sensitive they are, on top of all of above
      4. The type of music you listen to and how they match all of above
      5. Your personal preference of sound…and yep, how they match all of above.
      6. Diminishing returns when you go up the class.

So there is no single measurements for comparing sound quality.

Objectively…I think Apple products are well enough engineered to suit the most common taste. Biggest appeal…(v shaped sound signature, boosted bass and trebles). So if you are a normal consumer, it's pretty good. But non Apple brands are also great as they know audio equipment best…eg. noise cancellation by Sony, Jabra ergonomics, Sennheiser and their sound signature.

You can try YouTube reviews and even then the conclusions are subjective still.

Just get what you like (looks and fit) within your budget…do the rest in EQ.

  • Question: how would one use wireless buds/headphones on an aeroplane? (For the inflight entertainment)

    • Search for BT Transmitter on AliExpress . Highly recommended BT5.0 as a minimum.

    • Thanks both. So it’s either this or wired. Any recommendations for wired earbuds with decent noise cancelling?

      • +1

There's not many brand name wired earphones with noise cancellation. I know Bose had one with an inline unit that did it, but it's a bulk to carry search for Bose Quiet comfort 20.

For travelling I would just get comply foam eartips on your daily wired driver and be done with it. Lightweight, comfort is more important for me when travelling than sound quality. With all the static and random volume fluctuations I don't use my good iem. Just a robust pair that I can throw around without breaking is better. Back that up with a pair of 2 dollar foam plugs.

All noise cancelling earbuds have a noise floor that will hiss and annoy me when music stops…hence for me i prefer noise isolation.
