It was far cheaper last week - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/795416 (that's with 16GB RAM, but if it's using a single stick it's only $45 to upgrade, $90 for entirely new RAM).

I'd hold out for a better deal.

Edit: My bad, I didn't realise this is the MAX version with the O/C CPU. IMO not cheap enough to warrant the extra price still.

So I posted this deal on the PRO last week and its been pretty solid so far. Some notes I think that will help anyone choosing between the PRO and MAX.

      • The main difference between the two and why you would want to pay a premium for the MAX is the TDP between the two units. Everything else pretty much the same
in terms of ports and features. Although you do get a different outer shell design and the power brick (More on that below).

      • The Pro comes preset with a pretty weak 35W TDP. However, it can be set up to the 54W limit the same as the MAX via the BIOS. The cooling solution on the PRO can handle it, I never hit above 86deg with overnight stress test using both CPU and GPU at 54W. Expect the fan to be super loud at load however (But will be the same on the MAX). I suggest dropping the fan curve to hit max RPM at 85deg rather than the toasty 95deg it is set at from the factory.

      • However, here is the problem with the PRO. Beelink has paired it with a small 65W charger. This is a big problem if you want to run it at the max 54W TDP as you are leaving yourself with a tiny 9W to work with to run all the other components, SSD, USB peripherals etc. So when I had it running at 54W it was regestering 67-68W from the wall. Probably not good for that baby power brick! That's with full stress test but no other peripherals connected sans HDMI monitor. I'd imagine if you had USB devices connected, a USB-C monitor etc you'd be way over that even more. Surprisingly it survived my overnight stress test without issues. However, to be on the safe side I've chosen the middle ground and left it at 45W as per AMD default to give me some breathing room for peripherals etc. The MAX however comes with a 120W charger, which is much more appropriate for running at 54W and makes complete sense. I guess that's the only main reason you would want to pay more for it.

      • Yes, there is a performance bump. I was able to gain 12% by going from 35W to 45W and then another 8% to 54W. So expect 20% difference in performance PRO vs MAX (Syntheic benchmarking). There was very little difference in GPU performance I could see going up the wattage.

      • So is it worth going to MAX from PRO? I'd say yes if the price is right. But not at this price IMHO. Basically a $215 premium from my deal for 16GB extra RAM, 512GB extra SSD and an upgraded power brick.

      • For me, I'll keep it at 45W and might get a bigger power brick in the future if I want to run it at 54W. I have used a USB-C to DC adaptor to run it off my 100W PD powerbank and its been running great. :-)

      • Thanks for the very detailed response. I missed out on the last deal so I'm hanging out for another one now, especially now I know I can up it to 45W pretty easily.

Do you know if you got 2x8 or 1x16 for the RAM?

        • +1

It's 2x8 at 3200Mhz Crucial CL22. So they have paired it well.
SSD was a Crucial P3 Plus. Odd combo as it the chip can't run PCIe 4, but hey at least its a good brand drive, pity no RAM cache.

Nothing special, but very nice to see 3200Mhz. I had some 32GB (2x16) 2667Mhz kit laying around which I intended to upgrade with. Though I'd be dropping about 10-15% on the graphics side for the slower RAM. Zen 3 definitely will run better with 3200Mhz so probably will find something better for it.

Best explanation, hands down! I will wait for the Pro Ryzen7 5800H version to be back in stock and similar pricing you posted so I can grab one for my mini home server.

      • Dude, great detailed response.

      • Hi the max comes in a 16gb and 500gb SSD for $599.00 after coupon do you think it's worth waiting for another price drop on the pro or just getting the max if it's $50 more for the max right now?
