  • Great price on the Japan eSIM (IIJ) 30 Days. Is this very limited around Japan? Or similar coverage to the other more expensive one?

    • +3

Hey! For some context IIJ is Docomo's MNVO so it's generally still have good coverage accross Japan.

      -Anton

      • Ah cool cheers Anton!

    • You can get esim from HIS mobile (also IIJ) for 180 days 10GB at 2400 yen. Or around $27 AUD. There are other plans with different duration and limit as well.

      https://store.his-mobile.com/shop/single-product&goods_id=46…

      • Our 30 days 10GB is currently on sale for $18 AUD - we think this is exceptional value and would be enough for most travellers.

We are also Aussie based with lightning fast customer support if anyone has troubleshooting issues :)

        -Anton

        • +1

How to get the price to 18AUD for 30 day 10GB? Thanks

          • @poppappy: This is our 30 days eSIM for IIJ.

            -Anton

    • IIJ is pretty good. Never had an issue using it over there. In Japan they offer two different options, Docomo or KDDI sims for the two major networks.

  • +3

I had the 30day 30GB Japan SIM which looks like was the KDDI/Docomo offering, and it worked a treat all across Japan. Went from Tokyo all the way down to Fukuoka and around the countryside, never had a problem with Android Auto. Amusingly it seemed to allow roaming in Singapore so I had some service there too on my way home.

Would definitely buy this again, and I suspect I'll be doing metro only next time so IIJ should be ok for me. #_#

    • Hey! Great to hear you had a great experience around Japan.

Yes our Japan SIMs are definitely one of the most competitive and one of be better product in the Australian market :)

      -Anton

  • I need a sim for 42 days in Japan. I was hoping to get one that had unlimited data but I can only see an option for 7 or 14 days. Is there anything that you can recommend for me please? Even if there was a 30 day unlimited, what would I do at day 31 - would I need to buy a new e-sim or can it be 'topped up'? Thank you :)

    • Hello unfortunately we currently do not offer "true" unlimited plans. The most data we have would be the 30 days 30GB plan.

The eSIM cannot be topped up and you would simply can just purchase another one once you have used up your first eSIM.

      -Anton

    • Sounds like an option will probably be grabbing a 15 day eSIM on your 30th day of a 30 day SIM, then swap over.

  • I used the Japan SIM and it was fantastic. Was hoping this sale would apply to SE Asia, as I’m set to go to Singapore for 10 days.

    • Hello!

Great to hear your experience with our Japan SIM :)

The Asia 8 Explorer SIMs are not part of this sale unfortunately.

      -Anton

    • SIM cards can be bought very easily in Singapore, get one of the $12 tourist ones https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/mobile/pr… (or the $18 2 in 1 if you also want an MTR card). Not that this deal isnt a good deal; but for Singapore is very easy to get a card when you arrive (note: my experience is that the Singtel shops at the airport have always 'just sold out' of the $12 cards and only have the $50 cards. So just go to a 7/11 or a Cheers store and pick one up)

If you want an eSIM https://www.m1.com.sg/mobile/prepaid-plans/tourist-sim

      • Just an FYI it's much easier/safer to buy and register your sim at the airport or an official store as they will do it for you on the spot.

I'm not sure if other retailers like Cheers are supposed to help you register it, but in my case I bought one from a Cheers outlet and I had to register it myself via the Singtel app which requires an internet connection.

Luckily there was a cafe with free wifi nearby — so just make sure if you do end up buying a sim from a convenience store that there's wifi readily available.

        • Luckily there was a cafe with free wifi nearby — so just make sure if you do end up buying a sim from a convenience store that there's wifi readily available.

Or make sure you are staying in a hotel…

  • Any full use sims or are they all data only?

    • +1

      Hello these are all data-only

      -Anton

      • Thanks for the quick reply Anton.

So hard to get full sims for Japan or most of Asia. Europe & USA no probs. No great for travel.

        • We find that using a VoIP service (such as Skype or rebtel) combined with our data only sim still can come out cheaper than buying one with calls and data included.

We found that most people nowadays just use imessage, facetime and whatsapp to call friends and family.

          -Anton

  • Will the sim work if i travel from South Korea to Hong Kong or will i need a sim per country?

    • +1

If you buy our Asia 12 Explorer range it will work in all 12 countries :)

      -Anton

  • I'm going to Japan for 2weeks. Can I activate the esim before I leave in Australia and test if it works here before I leave?

    • Please refer to each product page but all the eSIM listed above (EXCEPT IIJ) can be installed in Australia - but the data will NOT work.

The plan will only start once you reach Japan or one of the supported countries.

Please note for IIJ the plan starts as soon as you scan the QR code.

      -Anton

  • Thanks! Seems like a good price, grabbed the 20gb option Japan eSIM (KDDI/Docomo) 30 Days to cover me for when I'm heading to the F1 in Japan next month, hoping I'll find a way to stream English commentary over the internet while I'm there…

    • Great! Thanks for the support!

      -Anton

  • Coupon code is not working for Asia Explorer eSIM Card 12 Countries | 1GB / Day | Data-Only | 15 Days

    • Apologies this has now been fixed

      -Anton

  • Will the Sim work in Bali? I understand there are some restrictions for indonesians travelling back in terms of getting a sim.

    • If you buy the Asia 12 Explorer yes it will work in Bali Indonesia. The restriction only applies to local SIM - our SIMs is a roaming SIM card.

  • +2

I had the following sim on a recent trip to Japan: Japan Travel eSIM | 7 Days | 1 GB / Day (Unlimited Data at 128kbps)

I was informed this is a roaming sim rather than a local sim. Although TravelKon were great with providing quick customer service via WhatsApp, I found the product to be quite inconsistent. I would frequently have to toggle aeroplane mode on and off to get a connection or manually switch between KDDI / Docomo - otherwise, I found my connection intermittently dropped out - even when it said I was connected, I had no internet.

YMMV - running an esim on iPhone 14 Pro. I would recommend trying for one of their local sims if possible to avoid any issues with roaming.

    • Hello thank you for sharing your experience.

SIM and eSIM can be very technical - sometimes we have to do a SIM reset on our end to resolve any connection issues (which is rare).

It could also be due to the fact you purchased the 1GB/Day product, once you go over the 1GB the data will be very slow and it might look like you have connection issues however it might just be due to the slow speed.

Our CS can handle any issues and if need be can issue new eSIM

      -Anton

      • +1

Troubleshooting was responsive. The Sim was reset on your end but the ongoing issues did not resolve. At the time; your team checked my usage was approx 600mb at one of the times I was experiencing the typical issues.

The sim still served its purpose on my trip. I just would have hoped for a more consistent connection and hassle free experience.

whats with all the incentive to go to Japan recently lol

    • +2

Great culture, great food, great service, great transportation. What is the non incentive to go to Japan? Cheaper flights is cherry on top. Or just go to Broken Hill, whatever rocks your boat.

      • -5

why are you getting offended? This isnt reddit, I was just wondering if there was a push from their govt to get more tourists in.

      • +2

JPY has also declined similar to AUD, so compared to UK / EU / US, it’s very affordable

    Must activate by about Feb?

    • +1

Hello for the eSIM yes 180 days from the date of the order.

      -Anton

  • This guy didn't refund my previous purchase that was returned. STAY AWAY!

    • Hello, if we have offered a refund we will honour our word as long as we received the item back.

Did you have a tracking number? You can DM me the order number for us to check the correspondence.

      -Anton

  • If I read this right, I can purchase the Japan Travel eSIM now and activate it within 180 days?

    • +1

Yep, I just bought one and the email says:

Please activate data plan by [2024-02-23]

      • +1

Yep that's correct :) if you purchase the physical SIM it will expire on 30 June 2024.

        -Anton

  • Hi, I'm travelling to Japan in October and was wondering how your eSIMS/providers differ to that of Ubigi and Airalo? I've heard really good reviews with Ubigi and their prices aren't too different from yours, so just wondering.

    • We are an Aussie based business and we have great customer support service that works around the clock, our official "live chat" hours are from 9AM-6PM Perth time, however we usually respond as late as 1AM and as early as 6AM specifically for troubleshooting inquiries.

We strongly believe a fast and efficient customer service is essential as SIMs can be very technical when it does not "work" as intended. It is the extra piece of mind we offer to all our customers and our point of difference.

I had past experience with Flexiroam and Airalo and their customer service took 24 hours to respond and in the case of Flexiroam it was 3-4 days. When the service works it's great but when it doesn't it can get frustrating. We respond within minutes 😊

      -Anton

    • I've been researching about roaming SIMs as I've got an upcoming trip to Asia, and some comments/user feedback I see on reddit about Airalo seems to be patchy/lackluster in Japan, while really good in other countries. So it gives me the impression the virtual SIM operators' performance may really vary depending on country. Ultimately I couldn't find any solid scientific info but legit user feedbacks (such as on OzBargain which most likely aren't filled with fake reviews) generally seem to be reliable enough.

      • I was travelling with someone in Malaysia who was using Airalo and their data wouldn't work at all in some parts of the country such as Penang while the physical asia sim I bought from travelkon worked fine everywhere I went.

        • Thank you for your valuable feedback :)

Even if for whatever reason our SIM "does not" work, we have live chat options to resolve ASAP and if we cannot resolve within a reasonable time we have our money back guarantee to issue customers with refunds.

          -Anton

          • @TravelKon: Don't know why you got negged.

Just to clarify too, I meant legit user feedbacks are generally reliable enough, not Airalo.

  • New to esim. Planning to use on Oct. when does the plan start? How do you switch the esim on and off?

    • You can install the eSIM in Australia (except the IIJ eSIM) - the plan will start once it connects to a local supported network.

You can turn on off the esim in your phone settings.

      -Anton

  • I ordered 2x Sims for Asia last Thursday night and it hasn't been shipped yet via express… Any chance to have it despatched asap Monday and have this 15% retrospectively applied? Also … We are leaving on Saturday morning hence the express… Will we even receive it by then? Website said 4 business days to SA…

    • +1

Hello yes it will be dispatched on Monday and will arrive on time. Can you please DM me the order number?

      -Anton

      • Dang that's pretty decent service, ~6min reply time!

  • +1

Hi which 12 countries are included in the Asia deal and does it include mainland China, if so is the operator Singaporean and a built in VPN?

    • Here is the list (also on the product page): Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, China , Macau, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Philippines, Vietnam & Cambodia.

Asia 12 - exclude Mainland China, Asia 13 - include Mainland China

      -Anton

    • Assuming you are referring to the Asia Explorer SIMs, once you click into the corresponding website, it'll answer your questions (but if you can't atm for whatever reasons, no it doesn't include China, and it uses Taiwanese operator, CHT. Not sure about the VPN as it doesn't work in China).

      • Sorry forgot to address the operator and the VPN questions.

zrmx is correct this is a CHT SIM (Taiwanese operator) and it does have built in VPN for China (if you purchase the plan that include China).

        -Anton

  • Travelling in October, how does it work. If i get an esim do i just scan the QR code when I get to Japan? Or is a physical sim more seamless just popping it into my phone when I get there. Any drawbacks of either?

    • They both work the same way, with eSIM you just need to scan the QR code and depending which one you buy you can scan it in Australia without activating the plan (only IIJ ones will start the plan upon scanning).

The only cons on eSIM that I can think of is you are not able to transfer to a different device and if you delete it, you cannot reinstall without contacting us to reset first.

However there are many pros such as instant delivery, no need to put SIM out / in, you will also not forget the "bring" the physical SIM.

      -Anton

  • Will you include the deal to Oceania / NZ eSim Data as well, please. Thanks.

    • This sale does not currently include NZ eSIMs - stay tune for our next promotion!

      -Anton

  • Any chance you can do deal on HK only sims rather than the Explorer? :D

    • Unfortunately this sale does not currently include HK only SIMs - stay tune for our next promotion!

      -Anton

  • Hi, do these SIM cards expire?Thinking of getting one for my trip in Nov/Dec. Thanks.

    • Physical SIMs expire on 30 June 2024 whilst eSIM will need to be used within 180 days of purchase.

All these info is on the product page.

      -Anton

      • Thank you!

  • Any deals for Europe? :)

    • Unfortunately we just had our Europe SIM last month, this sale is for Japan SIMs only - stay tune for our next promotion!

      -Anton

      • Travelling to Europe too at the end of November - will there be a deal in time for then?

  • Which network do you use? Is it safe for banking? Will this be the same as if I buy global roaming pack as I will still rely on local networks?

Also, I’ve never used e-sim so is it safe to use? Sorry, with all these cyber security stories, I rather ask first.

    • Hello most of the ASIA's SIM provider is by CHT a Taiwanese operator, the IIJ eSIM is a local Japan network provider.

We personally use internet / online banking whilst overseas and we have no issues so far - we are not cyber secuity guru but with more sophisticated security by most of Big 4 and other banks here in Australia, we would think it's safe?

      -Anton

      • Hi, thanks for your quick answer. Just recently hit by Latitude hacking and you would’ve thought they have better security.

The providers sound reasonable. How about security of e-sim? Does this allow more access to my phone compared to normal app downloads? Otherwise, I’ll get a physical sim instead.

        • Physical and eSIM works the same way, the only difference is the technology.

One requires a physical SIM, one just require a QR code to be scanned.

Both works the same way in terms of speed, data etc

          -Anton

  • Any love for US sims?

    • Hello, sorry but this sale does not currently include USA SIMs - stay tune for our next promotion!

      -Anton

  • Hi OP any cheaper deals for 7 days Japan physical SIM card? Thanks.

    • Hello we do not have 7 days physical SIM card - only eSIM has 7 days options.

      -Anton

  • Hi there.
Can you confirm for me please that the Asia Explorer sims will work in Cambodia?
In all the descriptions cambodia is often left out.

Ps. I used a USA eSIM earlier this year and it worked perfectly. Thanks!!

    • +1

Yes it does work in Cambodia - apologies for the confusion we will recheck all the pages again to make sure Cambodia is included.

      -Anton

Some of these plans are okay value but if anyone wants what I have found to be constantly the best get an AIS sime from Thailand. You can purchase an eSime to fly package and then reload roaming packages through the app as needed.

I will be travelling to Korea and Japan next week and it will costs $19 for 10 days and 10gb to cover all of Asia. Same deal if it is just Japan is 12gb.

    • Hi do you have the link for the Japan 12gb sim you were referring to?

      • You will have to purchase a sim first. It is free if you do it in Thailand otherwise there will be an extra costs here - https://esim2fly.com/

      • I think he was referring to 399baht package for 6gb + the promo

    Okinawa included in japan deal?

    • +1

Okinawa is part of Japan so yes it does include Okinawa :)

      -Anton

  • Travelling in Japan next month for 17 days. What would be the best suitable one to buy in eSIM ?

    • Hello it really depends on your needs, you can purchase our 7 and 14 days eSIM or just purchase the 30 days one.

      -Anton

  • Hi! If the expiry date for the sim is on the 31/12/2023 and I activate it on the 27/12/2023, will it still be valid for 30 days after activation?
Also for the sims which are capped at 1GB/day, does the network automatically stop working or is the speed throttled
    Thanks!

    • Yes the 30 days start on the activation date (i.e. in your case 27/12/2023 + 29 days = total 30 days)

For the 1GB/Day SIMs, the speed throttle to 128kbps (which is extremely slow)
