Audible/Kindle: Get 26 Classic Kindle Books + Corresponding Audible Audiobooks for Free + More

This post contains affiliate links. OzBargain might earn commissions when you click through and make purchases. Please see this page for more information.

Note: I've got a US audible account and a US Amazon account. I don't know if this offer will work if you have Australian accounts. Please let me know in the comments and I'll update as required.

(Update - confirmed working for Australian accounts as well as US. See comments)

Remember Amazon uses your billing address to work out which country you are in. So you can have a real Australian delivery address, real Australian credit card, Australian IP and a real US billing address (say the hotel you're currently staying in) and still buy US-only digital items. You can also swap back to a real Australian billing address whenever you want.

Deal 1:

Amazon.com have launched a new service called "Whispersync". If you own a book on both Kindle and Audible, you can swap between them without losing your place. ie Start reading the kindle version, then continue on in the car, where you left off, with the Audible version.

Here's a video explaining the new service.

Anyway to launch the service they are giving you 26 free kindle books (these are classics that have been free for a while) with the corresponding Audible audiobook (previously up to $30 each), also for free!

You'll need a Amazon account, and you can use that same account on Audible if you don't already have an audible membership.

Although if you haven't used Audible before, sign up using this link to get two free audiobook credits. If you cancel within the first month, you don't have to pay anything.

And with those two credits, you could use them to get 4 books with the following deal.

Deal 2:

Now, while I've got you attention - here's another Audible deal (membership required) that may interest:

Until 30th September, Audible have a Buy One, Get One free deal (BOGO) for classics on audiobook. There are over 110 titles from American, British, and European and World Literature.

(You'll need to be logged on and have available credits on your membership account to see, and take advantage of, this deal.)

Deal 3: (thanks to melmac77 and scupper)

Audible Win-Win Sale - until 18th Sept (members only)

200+ audiobooks on sale for US$4.95.

  • All work fine with my Australian accounts, tho I don't think my old Kindle Keyboard will be any use for the Audio Books

    • I thought kindle keyboard had an mp3 player? At least the V3 did…

  • "If you cancel within the first month, you don't have to pay anything."

How hard is it to cancel membership?

    • Takes a couple of minutes. Generally you get offered a discount membership rate during the cancellation process, but if you keep clicking on "no thanks", you'll get to the final "yes, really cancel" page without much hassle.

Just make sure you spend the bonus credits before cancelling. You still keep all the books on your account and can redownload them as many times as you want on as many supported devices as you want, even after cancelling.

  • Works with an Australian Amazon and Kindle account but as far as I can work out, you need to buy them all on Amazon then find them on Audible and buy them there too. (all for free of course), a little time consuming but worth the effort, thanks!

  • Thanks Chris been meaning to come post this all week myself :) awesome new service from Amazon. Also note if you have a few amazon ebooks that you'd like the audiobook for, search for them on audible as you may be offered a discounted audio version. I purchase an ebook for 99c from Amazon ages ago and when I searched for it on audible they offered be the audio version for just #1.99(usually $7.30) because I already owned the ebook :)

  • There's a $4.95 sale on selected books too.

  • Thankyou very much!

    Got them all :)

You actually save quite a bite of money with the value of the ebooks and the audiobooks combined (considering each audiobook is worth between $20 - $30 each).

  • These are books out of copyright. You can get them and thousands more legal and free at places like Gutenberg Project. If you don't know how to get stuff on your Kindle or other eReader without Amazon Store you can use calibre - E-book management (also free).

I mean this is a nice convenience… but they should always be free. If they're not, they're selling you the annotations/commentary on them, not the actual book.

    • +1

Its not the free ebook that we're after its the free Professional narration

      • Yeah, I think the big attraction here is the free Audio book versions.

      • Agreed. This is awesome!

      • Fair enough.

  • Now I've got a load of free ebooks! Thanks!!

  • +2

Some of the classics that were free aren't any more however one new addition is Heat of Darkness by Joseph Conrad narrated by Kenneth Branagh - http://www.amazon.com/Heart-of-Darkness-ebook/dp/B0084AMNWQ

    • Nice find, thanks!
