It is an alright device, I won one at CeBIT 2011, have since sold it though.

Must not be -too- good, if people sell them…
ie, rather than keep & use them… :-?

PC Case Gear has it for $200 + $17 shipping to Sydney which is their standard price.
For those local to pccg it's cheaper to buy from pccg, but for those who aren't, an overall $8 saving isn't really a bargain but is still cheaper.
    No neg, but no 'bargain'.

  • Plenty of PC shops have it cheaper http://www.shopbot.com.au/m/?m=boxee

I think my OCD issues would have a problem with this device, because it's not a box.

    • You could replace that missing corner & make it into a box, eg, with an hour or 2 in a woodworking shop & some glue :-)

    • I think that's why its called boxee and not box

  • Expensive device for not having any internal storage.

    my name is boxee… urgh

We -used- to be able to get a free Boxee program for our PC's,
but they seem to have gone exclusively Apple recently. They've left their PC users "high & dry" for Apple-only support FAIK.

    I won't have it on that basis… :-/

  • Get Google TV.

  • ATV #2 with XBMC. Much better!

    • rubbish

  • Can someone tell me why this is better then WD TV Live?

  • Been using this for a long time now and it has certain issues regarding retrieving certain movies and a few bugs here and there. Overall though, it's a fantastic investment, it will play every file you throw at it, with the ability to search for subtitles, has ratings, descriptions, cast etc.

  • Purchased a boxee for my pregnant wife a few months ago and she hasnt really used it. We have netflix going on it but she isnt much of a TV watcher. If anyone is keen to buy it let me know. Will sell for $120. I live in Sydney.

If you think you can get it cheaper on ebay, I will probably post it on there in a few days.

    • How do I PM you regarding your Boxee?

  • I've had one for 2yrs…paid $200 from Amazon back then.
    They're great & never miss a beat.

They have native iView, SBS, SMH & ch7 on demand channels.
It has VPN settings if you subscribe to such a service you can watch stuff in other countries, such as BBC, Ch4, HBO, NetFlix, etc

Not sure if it's still worth $200, but it was a nice upgrade from XBMC that i had previously.

As mentioned numerous shops (umart, MYS, megabuy, have it for under $209..Megabuy has it delivered for $211.

More importantly OfficeWorks sell it for $254, so 5% pricebeat brings it down to under $200 @ OW

  • I went from a WDTV Live player to a Boxee Box and it's a definite upgrade. It has it's little problems and quirks but it has a lot more features than a WDTV player will ever give you. There are tons of apps for it, official and third-party. It scans your media and matches them up with IMDb automatically to provide you with movie sheets, cover art, etc. You can't do that with WDTV unless you get hacked firmware and even then, the device takes forever to boot up while loading your moviesheets that take a long time to even create. If you have a VPN or DNS service then you can get Netflix and Pandora apps for the Boxee as well. Other popular apps include Spotify, MLB.TV, and NHL Gamecenter. Hell, there are even porn apps.

Overall, I'd recommend just building an HTPC and putting XBMC on it but failing that, this device is your next best bet.

  • Got mine when first released(pre order) in Australia also scored a free D-Link ethernet powerline kit :)).

Best thing i have ever purchased, i have 3 of them. The kids love it, easy to use for them.

The GUI is nice with the cover art etc. Some of the fiddly file names, i just change before i put it on the NAS and boxee finds them OK. If not the kids know how to rename and search for the cover art (5 and 8 year old).

The airplay feature is cool and it's alo wireless N,

The remote will stuff up, you can just use your iphone to control it though.
