  • for those with this kb, is the use time correct of "up to 10 days, or up to 5 months with backlighting off"?

    • +3

I'd say longer than 10 days unless you are using it 24/7…

      • thats what i was wondering, seems to be very short

    • I think I charge mine every few weeks using it all day/everyday. The backlighting isn't on most of the time as it is bright enough so won't turn on unless it needs to.

It's easy to charge by simply plugging it into laptop via usb c cable while you use it.

    • I have the non Mac one, but I use it almost daily for work (with the backlight on). I usually leave it to charge once a month while I'm off at lunch. But I've never actually depleted the battery.

Have owned mine for nearly 5 years. Definitely the best non-mechanical keyboard I've used.

I am pretty ,much the same as this. Charge my MX Keys and MX Master mouse at the same time, once every 3-4 weeks.

      • Nearly 5 years huh? Even though it was released only a little under 4 years ago? 🤔

    • I use it 10+ hours a day and charge once every 10 days or so. I back the battery claims, have had it for over two years and still good.

    • I get around 3 weeks battery life before I need a top up.

      • Mine is approx 3 years old
      • Solid 8-10 hours use (per business day) with fairly light weekend use
      • Backlighting is turned on, but rarely kicks in as I have a light bar on my monitor
      • I turn it off overnight the majority of the time

      Hope this helps.

  • I had the non mac. It's brilliant how it lights up when you come near. Unfortunately one or two of the keys came loose(overuse 😂). I now have a cheap hp keyboard that's superb for work. And I use the g915 for gaming

  • Waiting for the mechanical version to get down to this price? :)

  • Whats the difference between the Mac & Win version kb apart from its for different OS?

Can you use a Mac ver on Win OS?
Can you use a Win ver on Mac OS?

    just curious to know

Can you use a Win ver on Mac OS?

There is no Windows version. You can use the standard version or Mac specific one on either OS.

The Mac version simply has keys that are labelled as Mac commands only. Eg. (as I type this on my NON Mac specific MX Keys) Windows Alt, is Mac Command.

This Mac specific bottom most left keys are labelled as Control, Option & Command. The Non Mac specific one has "ctrl", "opt|start" & "cmd|alt" labels.

The newer MX Keys S is different again, it has keys labelled for both platforms again, but it also has different key layout, and the Function keys have a lot of different shortcut Functions. Plus it has the new Bolt USB receiver.

      • Thanks for the info. So much options these days.

      Mac ver:

      • has a USB C to C cable. The Windows version has USB A to USB C.
      • has metallic gun metal grey color only while the Windows version has all-black variant and metallic gun metal grey
      • has no START printed on the Options button and no ALT printed on the CMD button,

That's basically it, the keyboard keys itself will be identical to the windows version and there's nothing different about it that changes the way you use it.

      • Nice info thanks. Wonder why they don’t streamline to give all USB C to C cable. Windows or Mac, the tend is USB C these days.

        • MacBooks went to USB-C (Thunderbolt) only ages ago, in that same time period there were still a tonne of Windows machines without USB-C.

Newest MX Keys S version still has the same cable, it really should be USB-C to C, with an adapter for USB-A

Unfortunately that video is quite outdated, and much of it wrong now. The MX Keys no longer exists (there is old stock) it has been replaced by the MX Keys S.

USB cable issue stands the same.
Black option for MX Keys hasn't existed in several years, it's been Graphite/Black for ages. Current S version has two colour options, Graphite and Pale Gray

S version has altered the key layout a fair bit.

Again, there is no "Windows" version of this keyboard, there is multi use and Mac version. If it was Windows only, then it wouldn't include the Mac key names on it.
