What's the benefit to using this over Google Maps / Apple version / Waze?

    • +19

You can check previous post for all the answers that you need. Link of previous deal it's on description.

      • +9

Disgusting that you are being voted down.

The entitlement that exists on Ozbargain is terrible.

McDeal has given a way to answer the question, but because they haven’t spoon feed you lazy clowns, you vote them down.

Others aren’t put on this earth to serve you.

        • +9

Lol the link to the previous deal literally has the answer "You can check previous deal that's on description for more details" regarding a question on police warnings.

If you're reposting a deal then there is a fair expectation for questions to be answered, otherwise what's the point of this comments section

              @PainToad: Stop being toxic.

              • -4

@Shunto: Expecting strangers to serve you when you have contributed nothing in return in 8 years seems toxic to me.

Most of people up voting you are fellow members who have contributed nothing also.

If it wasn’t for amazing people like Scrooge McDeal this site simply wouldn’t function. Yet people like you just complain because they wanted you to click a link to find out the answer to your question. 🤦

@PainToad: toxic ppl supporting lazy/toxic fks
wish it was survival of the fittest - these things would have died out generations ago!

      • You can cancel and still keep your 12 months free subscription.

If I cancel it says I will lose the subscription instantly 🤔

      • +1

Thanks. That would have saved all the pain above.

From one of the lazy/ entitled/ not-pulling-my-weight people.

        • ps. for those even more entitled/ lazy, the conclusion is no need for Tom Tom. You've just wasted a couple of minutes of your life that you'll never get back.

TomTom go gives you a warning sound your speeding five k’s over the speed limit. Saved me many times.

Last time I used Google Maps Apple maps and waze there was no warning sound.
Can someone please let me know if they have updated the warning sound for speeding.

      • +7

waze has had warning sound since forever. can
be configured , on limit, 5, 10, 15 over or under.

        • Last time, I used waze, it did give me a warning sound, but only the first time I went over the speed limit during the session, but not again during the same session. I had to close waze down and open it up again to get the once only warning sound,

If they’ve updated it since I’ll give it a go again and test a few times during the session. If it does give me a warning sound each time Goodbye Tom Tom

          • @kdmeir: maybe some odd behaviour related to phone model/app compatibility, but with my phones it warns all the time.
and can be set to play sounds through phone speakers or Bluetooth.
I have it set up so music plays to car bluetooth, but warnings are played by phone.

      • +1

Waze has 5km speeding warning as default. Extremely accurate too on my cheap xiaomi phone.

    • -1

      Degoogle.

    • I've always found TomTom to have the best road data out of any app. Main reason for me is that it knows which roads are dirt. Google Maps will take you down some rickety dirt road where a bitumen one is close by, TomTom has never done that. Nice on the highways as it has markers for rest stops.
Lately been trying in the city as well, it can automatically change your route to the quickest if you're travelling at rush hour(s).

  • Is this or sygic better?

    • This coz it’s FREE

    • In my experience, TomTom.

  • +3

signed up with Revolut, good luck charging that!

edit: also got an extra month until 23/09/24 for some reason

    • Why what happens if you have that card?

      • Disposable cc number.

    • +1

Just a PSA that if they can't charge your card, it doesn't mean your contract is nullified. I once received a letter from a debt collector when I tried this.

Brings me back to 2005 😂, I can’t believe they are still alive

  • Is there a code for Australia, it's redirecting to the UK for a free subscription and then asking for the address

    • Same

    • +1

no code for australia. i just entered a fake london address and paid using paypal and it worked.

  • I will stick to waze just because I will forget to cancel lol

    • I compared both Waze and Google maps for the exact same trip.
For me Waze user much more battery.
The only upside I saw for Waze is the speed camera notificaiton. Google Maps has this but doesnt really have an updated database.

      • +7

waze also has live police traps etc - also if you use tolls, it tells you exactly how much it'll be before you decide.

        Overal superior imo

      • +4

Waze has far more up to date reports like Police vehicles / traps / cameras etc from experience

        • The police traps are pointed by the community it’s a hit and miss sometimes

  • I thought Apple Maps is Tom Tom

  • Done, UK account and used in AU.

Lets give it a try. Hope that a feeling like the annoying toyota nag alert when travel thru school zone, common trap zones.

  • +1

any reason i should switch if i'm using waze?

    • +1

Just offline maps that I can think of. You can download offline maps on google and soon on apple maps. It is just handy that you have all of Australia handy for when you go somewhere with no reception and don’t plan ahead or forget to download offline maps.

  • Have fun in experiencing year 2005. Otherwise I can't find any other reason to subscribe to it (comparing to the effort of singing it up).

    • google and Waze are full of ads. This being subscription I hope wont be 🤷

      • +2

I use Google Maps daily and have never seen an ad.

        • wow, I wonder why have they singled me out 😕

          I thought everyone sees them.

    • +7

Maybe next time instead of negging a deal invest some time finding a deal to post. 0 Posts Member since 25/06/2021.

While I agree that his justification for the neg is not good (he implied there's no value in this, just because there's Google Maps), I have to say I don't agree that you only have the "right" to express your opinion if you have made a post…

Votes positive on Adidas shoe deal. Forgets that barefoot is also free everyday.

    • +1

You say free while Google is selling all of your data everyday

      • +2

So is Tomtom. They were caught and admitted to selling their user data to police.

  • TomTom go gives you a warning sound your speeding five k’s over the speed limit. Saved me many times.

Last time I used Google Maps Apple maps and waze there was no warning sound.
Can someone please let me know if they have updated the app to include warning sound for speeding.

    • +1

Waze definitely makes an audible alert when you are over the speed limit 2KM+. Has for many years. You might have turned off audio alerts

      • Last time, I used waze, it did give me a warning sound, but only the first time I went over the speed limit during the session, but not again during the same session. I had to close waze down and open it up again to get the once only warning sound,

  • Thanks OP. Trying it it to see if this is suitable when towing a caravan to avoid things like low bridges given there’s a truck option

    • Ok never mind. Truck mode is a different subscription

  • Thanks 👍

Bought a Tomtom around 15 years ago ,very hard to use, can't remerber when I start using google map through a phone since then never go back, can't imagine this thing still alive.

  • The lane highlighting to take exit ramps looks really good.

Not enough to replace the other extra features of the free alternatives though.

Hopefully she'll complain and yell at me if I take a wrong turn.

    Thanks for the freebie, OP.

  • +2

Doesn't seem to work for me - or actually the people at TomTom want to screw more money from me.

I had paid for a full licence of Go Mobile (not cheap) when it first launched on ios years ago, Tomtom then decided, like most companies have, to switch to subscription to extract more money. They gave me a free year on TomtomGo (this app) and said; say good bye to your lifetime licence.

Now when I log in, even with a new address it recognises my Apple ID and says we remember you and states "migrated from Go Mobile" and it doesn't show the one year that it shows on the tomtom.com (uk) website.

So think I will delete it and forget about it.

Clear your web browser cookies and try again with a different email to your original account

      • +1

Thanks for the suggestion, though it wasn't cookie on pc - that bit worked fine, it was when I tried to install app and login to the account with UK address and 12 month.

Appreciate the tip, but I've killed it all now and cancelled subscription. Kinda feel a bit too cheesed off by Tomtom to try any more.
Comment was more a rant, forgive me.

        • +1

          All good. It's a dying a service anyway ;)

    • +3

Reneging on a lifetime subscription is the worst scummy business practise.

  • Thanks, Op. Retro navigation on a Fold Z5 n driving a tesla

  • I can see at least 20+ people forgetting to cancel after a year! 😂

    • +1

Er, that's the point from their point of view.

    • +1

      You see debt people?

    • +3

Just cancel straight after subscribing, you still keep the 12 months.

  • When I tried to cancel the subscription, got the following error:

We are unable to start your subscription. Please try again. If the problem persists, please contact our customer support.

    Is it only me? :/

    • I got the same issue.

    • Found the solution, you need to set your vpn to uk first.

  • Thanks for the post!

  • I cant find to sign in on iPhone settings, if you open the app it prompts for 7 days trial. How do i get to work i have made account with uk address.

    • On Android there is a "Restore old purchases" button hidden on the screen. I guess it will be the same for iPhones. Click on that - enter your details - done.

      • There is none in iOS unfortunately, you can only use your purchases via App Store using you AppleID is my experience. Good thing I have an Android phone sitting in the cupboard!

  • +1

Just thought I should cancel my subscription and got "My subscriptions: You don't have any subscription which is linked to your TomTom account."

App (android) works fine - strange.

    • UPDATE: Checked again - now it was there. Cancelled.

      • how did it appear in your subsctiptions? I still have this message saying you don't have any subscriptions. Whereas on my iOS app I have active subscription till Aug-24.

        • Found it under my subscription - I was switching to AUS website so it was not showing before.

  • My iPhone wont allow me to enter the email address I used for the free subscription. It is insisting on using my AppleID 😢

    • Same here

  • I'm using a slightly outdated pirated version (thanks to whoever made that), probably easier to keep using that. The only problem is since the latest version was released I can't install it to new devices.

  • +1

for the iPhone user like myself,

When opening the app for the first time when it prompts you about 7 day trial, you should see a link about seeing the available plans. Click on that link takes you to a different page where you will find the link for "Restore Purchase"

Click on "Restore Purchase" and it will ask you for AppleID + sign-in. Simply sign-in and it will take you to another page where you can then sign in to the TomTom Go account you would've created already, and eveyrthing's fine after that.

    • Thanks, it worked for me!
