When I heard Apple exec Phil Schiller has a VR racing sim setup in his home this is what I pictured

    • +5

He's pretty business savvy—he probably bought it on sale too.

    What is this for? lol

    • +12

You install it in your car to watch TV duh

      • -2

Just stick with a matchbox and wave your hands and go zoom zoom. Same principle methinks. Only this is more portable to take anywhere with ya. LOL!

        Can't be, there's no seatbelt.

  • +1

damn i spent more on the seat in mine when i built it.

  • +5

… then you'll see them on Gumtree for sale for half price due to lack of use, similarly to home gym equipment.

    • +15

I'm assuming the chair is PU leather. If that's the case, the gumtree ad will note 'used twice' with photos of the chair peeling.

      • you might joke but we bought a pu leather nursing chair, never used it for its intended use but the moment I started using it at my wheel stand it didn't take long to start peeling. Ended up tossing it out in curbside pickup. I think it was gone by the end of the day.

        • +2

Definitely not a joke. I still don't understand how PU leather is allowed to be used/sold.

  • +2

I’d bite at $200-250 I think lol. Something I don’t need but it cheap enough can’t resist

  • Elon Muak's simulator of choice

    Stock is available in Brisbane.

  • wtf? supercheap auto now sells gaming gear?

    • +3

Why not? Just like a kungfuman wants a bargain too?

      • +1

well its a car and auto place lol so having gaming gear is just odd.

        • +4

It's for sim racing so it makes perfect sense

  • +3

Doesn’t seem very study for a decent wheel

    • +2

I have seen people on YouTube modify rigs to strengthen the plate where the wheel base is mounted to with extra metal pieces. For under $300 I don’t think it aims to sell to those direct drive wheel base owners anyway.

  • +1

    Collected one!

    • Can you advise of the size of the box? Will it fit easily to the boot of a sedan? Thanks!

      • +1

Should fit in med-large sedan boot.
Bring some rope in case boot door doesn't fully close.

        • Thanks mate!

    • Hey ramdom Q but do you have the manual book with details to get spare parts my son missing the shifter top plate for hes racinh rig 🤦🏿‍♂️

      • haven't opened the box yet :-)

        • Okay can you let me know when you do pls

  • +6

solid unit - works well with DD units moza R5 - bang for $ right here.

    • You have one? Can you, or anyone else, comment on the dimensions? Overall length, wheel plate height, seat height, etc - I can't see these on Supercheap and haven't found much more info searching around…

  • +1

    Good work from home setup

Guys don't waste your money if you want a solid flex free rig , I had a trackmaster rs6 steel tubing rig which is way more beefier than this and it had a lot of flex with a Fanatec DD1 wheelbase attached , I upgraded to an aluminium extrusion rig (trackmaster TR80) and there is just no comparison , way way more solid , flex free and very adjustable , I will never own or recommend a steel tubing rig again after my very disappointing experience with them.

    • +1

The RS6 is single sided support for the steering wheel so it just could be the design that causes more flex and doesnt mean this rig will flex the same.

    • +4

The upgrade to an extrusion rig is well over twice the price though.

      • +1

On top of that running a Fanatec DD1 has roughly a max of 20nm of torque, not sure what Dave was running it at but I feel like a lower torque FFB wheel (Moza R5/CSL 5, or their 8-9 equivalent) may not make the flex as pronounced as the DD1. Purely anecdotal of course.

        • +1

Can confirm no flex when using CSL DD 8nm

          • @imurgod: Tempted (as thats exactly what I have) But I probably wont

            • @Franc-T: Tempted for the wheelbase or the rig?

              (both and excellent).

I even run heusinkveld sprints on it (with the upgraded pedal plate) with no issues.

    • Looking online at the rs6 reviews I can confidently say with my Fanatec DD 8nm & I get no noticeable flex at all with this supercheap rig. I have a TrackRacer TR80 on backorder which I am pre tempted to cancel because of how well this cockpit is preforming.

  • What is the Marketplace wheel of choice to go with it? (Ie. Ozbargain level of wheel… Not rubbish, but not more expensive than buying an actual car and flogging it around a paddock!)

    • Personally with the Cammus C5 recently having come out and they have an Australian warehouse now that halved their shipping price from what it was (It was like $120 though, now its around $70). Even including that insane shipping price, it's the cheapest Direct Drive wheel on the market and so far reviews have been quite positive.

I put in my preorder for one for the Australian warehouse and am just waiting for it to ship from that.

    • +2

I'm going to butt in and throw out the Fanatec DD is a good entry level system. Choose your wheel from there. Also, unpopular opinion but the Thrustmaster T-LCM's is also the best budget pedals for their price range.. 😆

      • +1

T-LCM's are very good pedals, I had a set myself before upgrading.

      • +1

I'd say Logitech and Thrustmaster are entry level and then Fanatec CSL DD is starting to get toward more mid-level, especially with the 8nm PSU.

        • I think a lot of sim racers would argue logitech and thrustmaster are more arcade-level entrants.. 😅

Having been through almost 10 different logitech setups since 2008, the tech we have today, there's no way I'd recommend one for entry level when the pricing has much better offerings, albeit a tad more finicky to get set up than a pnp Logitech.

          • @WasBargain: Couldn't agree more.

            • @imurgod: You were also right though 8nm can definitely be a lot much for someone who's never used any sim wheel. 😅

I would have initially recommended a second hand CSL or CSW and secondhand T-LCM's but the CSL/CSW is getting hella dated now too but a good in-between before going to a dd.

              • +1

@WasBargain: My CSW 2.5 simply won't die. Dated but very solid and to be honest, the Csl DD was more of a side grade that upgrade.

Can't complain though, the fedelity is definitely better.

The draw of the rubbish, plastic that is logitech is the price. Very cheap to dip your toe in and, as we know, it doesn't take long to drop $15k or $20k if the bug bites you!

  • It is more expensive for an aluminium extrusion rig but if you want flex free then it's the only choice and I didn't even have my DD1 at high FFB and it flexed , to my mind just do it once and get a quality rig , I have been through all the cheap setups over the years and in the end it cost way more compared to a single purchase of an aluminium extrusion rig , you will never be happy with the cheaper rigs if you are serious about sim racing..

    • Its not your only choice you could diy for example. Honestly though I am probably going to wait for a higher end one

  • Is it left hand or right hand drive

    • +1

      Yes.

    • Usually you can swap which side the shifter is on.

    • Por que no las dos?

  • +2

Not sure I can hide this from the wife.

    • +3

Hide the wife. Wink wink ;)

      • Nice price, but will pass.
I still have a Logitech 920 sealed in a box from 2017 hidden away.
        This is too big.
We keep a pet rabbit, it started digging holes in the back yard, maybe will put them to use.

  • Picked mine up and now I'm tempted to cancel my Track Racer EOFY order.. because this is solid and has everything I require, unbeatable value.

I've had multiple playseat / obutto cockpits in the past and thought time to get a 8020 rig.. but honestly this 'cheap rig' really is a step above all the others in the under 1k price range.

  • +1

I just pulled the trigger on one of these. I figured im turning 50 in a few months so best get a few early gifts in for myself…!

  • Ordered mine yesterday, picked up late this arvo, and assembled it in about 2 hours.
Very sturdy rig. The seat isn't awful, though if it started to fall to bits I'd go get a seat out of a WRX or 86 and mount it.
TV mount takes up to 50". I've got a 43" on mine and it's perfect IMO.

    Very, very pleased.

  • Just put in an order for one in Spearwood WA
My wife won't be happy :(

  • Picked one up a few days ago set it up it’s very good.

Took about an hour and a half to assemble Seat isn’t the greatest but for the price it will do :-) can definitely get a proper car seat and attach it to the base.

Very sturdy with very little movement.

Definitely would recommend for the price

    • How's the comfort of the supplied seat?

    • Do you have the manual book ? I need detail on were to get a spare shifter plate from for this racing rig my son lost his one

  • +1

Can confirm is plenty strong enough to handle a direct drive wheel, is not flimsy at all. Fairly thick tubed steel with good bracing.

Sells for around $500 at other retailers so decent deal.

    • That's great news, I'll be setting up mine soon. How difficult is it to put together?

      • +1

Not difficult just a bit time consuming.
