  • looks interesting…but why this over the new Galaxy watch 6 classic?

    • It's pro

    • +3

      Battery life is better

    • +1

Battery lasts 4 days without having to turn anything off or power saving mode.
Non rotating bezel . People with kids reckon they are always turning bezel to make screen do things( that annoys the watch ower).
I only charge mine twice a week when I drive. I chose to have the non LTE model though. Friend has LTE model and tops up his battery twice a day for each 10 minute drive and never changes it anywhere else.

      • +1

Strange, just don't use the LTE or use when needed. Mine lasts over 4 days and I use LTE occasionally, not that I must use it but as an OZB I prefer to use all that I paid for

        • Can you permanently turn off lte and just use BT? Thanks

          • @Bargain-er: On your watch go to Settings > Mobile networks > Always off

Also, while you're in the settings, to save more juice, turn Wi-Fi off too if you don't need it. I guess BT is all you need

like 40hrs more battery life and titanium body, which will be lighter than steel.

yeah I've been watching auctions, and have seen these selling for around $350

I picked up a brand new Samsung Galaxy Watch5 44mm LTE 4G for $185 on eBay last month. I much prefer my TicWatch Pro 3 GPS, though.

        • I hadn't heard of the ticwatch before. I had a look at them, and I'm kinda tied between the galaxy watch 5 pro lte, and the ticwatch 3 pro ultra

          • +2

@nuttapillar: I'd pick the Ticwatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS. The battery is insanely good and the dual display is great. But be aware that there's a delay in TicWatch updating WearOS. Doesn't concern me but the delay annoys a lot of people. $239 https://www.amazon.com.au/Ticwatch-Pro-Ultra-GPS-Smartwatch/…

            • @[Deactivated]: How can a watch have 2 screens? It only has one face.

              • +7

@nuttapillar: They're layered on top of each other. One is colour and one is monochrome. The monochrome is used as the always on screen.

                • @[Deactivated]: From Amazon description, looks like tic watch is missing blood pressure and ecg reading compared to Samsung (health sensors wise)? Thanks

                  • @Bargain-er: No ECG but definitely has BP

            • @[Deactivated]: Buyer beware.

Do look at comments on the ticwatch deals. Whilst they are great value for money. However, support is really poor if things go wrong. 14 months in and my TW3 GPS just died. Reached out to support, first they said out of warranty period and just offered me a 35% off voucher, which was still more expensive than the OZb deals. YMMV.

    • But thats without samsung warranty right?

Gotta love all the numpties With Watch 5 Pros on FB Marketplace and Gumtree trying to ask $450, $500, even $700 for a second hand one, they need to realise theres a downside to the cancer that is (thanks to Apple, becuase theyre to blame for this) what i call Aspirational Technology Syndrome (aka, being conditioned to want the latest thing, like all the other sheeple, every 6 months), and that it youre going to get less than you expect if you try and resell it.

Not me, im from a generation where you use shit till it dies….still happy with my Watch 4 LTE thanks….theres literally no compelling reason for me to upgrade, not even battery life, i dont do social nonsense on mine so its lasts me 2 days, i just toggle stuff on as a need it NFC/Location etc (i.e. im not lazy and dont find tapping a toggle a burden like some folk apparently do - doesnt make sense to buy an entirely new watch for "better battery" when you cvan make it last with a minimum of effort…)

    • +2

Agreed, the Galaxy Watch4/5/6 are pretty much the same thing.

Spent a month lurking on Gumtree and FBM, got myself a new sealed in box watch 5 pro for $350. So good price could be had out there, just need to be patient.

I upgraded from watch 4 40mm to this and get almost triple battery life. Had to charge twice a day on the watch 4 for my usage. Almost everything turned off, airplane mode on + bluetooth on (which yield a tiny bit better battery than turning everything else off manually), exercise tracking 2h/day, sleep tracking. I guess you have watch 4 44mm?

      • Just curious, would your purchase be covered under samsung warranty if within the year?

  • -3

Not the cheapest price on amazon hence PB done via OW

    • Different model

      • My bad.

I have this watch. Battery life is great and the looks are quite good but my son got the GW6 Classic and that design is the sweet spot. If I were buying now I'd get the GW6 classic.

    • Yes although the GW6 battery is only 1 day whereas this is 3. I suppose it depends what really important to you. Also the GW6 does not have the ECG like this watch.

      • GW6 47mm Classic, my son claims 2 day battery life. So long as it can comfortably get through 1 day that is all that is really needed. Don't know about ECG on GW6 as my son isn't old enough to use ECG or blood pressure monitor. From my experience with the GW4 and GW5 is the ECG is pretty much meh and not something I would rely upon..

      • GW6 does have ECG

  • Yeah I'm still trying to decide wither to go Ticwatch 5 pro or Galaxy 5. I'm liking the extra battery in the Tic. Also looks a little less like a kids watch. Happy to hear from anyone with either. Been waiting for a price drop on both seeing as Galaxy has new model.

I had the same thought month ago and decided to go for Samsung Watch 5 Pro. Battery is more than good enough for my usage (AOD + 2h exercise tracking + sleep tracking). While it does last 2-3 days on a single charge, a quick top-up 15-20mins while showering everyday and I don't ever have to bother checking the battery anymore. Also the software support of Ticwatch is a bit questionable going by reviews of their other models.

      • Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Better software support sometimes trumps better battery life. buying from a known brand than an un-knownish brand. I'm not all about fitness so the tracking bit doesn't matter as much. I'm all about a good looking watch that i can load up some good apps. I also play golf so some golf apps might make it on there. Thanks for the mini review. I hear the Ticwatch pro 5 has better life than the Watch 6.

    • +1

I have the Ticwatch 5 Pro (got it for $363.99 on Amazon first week of launch …I'm sure it was glitch or pricing error!), i also have Galaxy 4 and 5 Pro on the way!

Ticwatch is stupid fast with the new W5+ Gen 1 chip there is literary zero lag. Apps open instantly and the rotating crown is an exceptional feature, it makes navigation great and fast. It will be hard to go back to anything else.

Obviously, battery life is probably class leading amongst full-fat smartwatches.

Software defo is and will be downside, no mention of Wear OS4 upgrade yet and going with the drama from Ticwatch 3 Pro who knows if it will come. Then just lazy software developers with the inbuilt apps …for example no option to set data screens in the fitness apps -this is crazy in 2023. Samsung give you so much flexibility in this area, not Garmin level but still good.

Weird and annoying multitasking if I'm in the fitness app or even music controller and i get a notification you cannot view it directly. There is no peak or anything, so you don't know which app it's from. You have to press the home button and then go check. This gets very annoying quickly esp at gym.

Let me know if you have any question!

      • Will be interesting to hear your thoughts between the Ticwatch 5 pro and the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro.
