Free 5kg of Green Coffee Beans with Purchase of Hottop B Coffee Roaster $2499 + Delivery ($0 NSW/Hobart C&C) @ Jetblack Espresso

HOTTIE

This may not be something everyone would want but if you're interested in trying to roast your own coffee beans this might be worth checking out. I've heard of roasting beans using a hot air popcorn popper (which would be more the OzB way) but this device is The Real Deal, being a true roaster. Additionally, the price at Jet Black Espresso is about the cheapest around, and for the next week only if you enter the code HOTTIE when purchasing you get a 5Kg bag of Brazil Pulped Natural Green Coffee Beans to get you started.

Delivery is extra, or free pickup from any of their showrooms.

Copy paste from the Jet Black web site:

The Hottop KN-8828B is a Hottop coffee roaster with programmability! After setting a target temperature and roast time at which the beans will be automatically ejected, the B controller gives you the flexibility to adjust the heater power and fan speed at any time during the roast to build the profile you want! And if you liked what you did, you can save the program at the end of the roast for next time!

The great thing about the Hottop B over every other Hottop controller is that it provides proportional heater power control. All other controllers simply turn the heater full on or full off, whereas the B allows you to provide constant heating at different power levels for the ultimate control and evenness in roast. It really is the controller for the roasting enthusiast!

Note that this is an official full-specification 230v/50Hz roaster, not the cheaper 110v/60Hz units designed for American power systems. 110v roasters and upgrade kits will not work properly on 230v supplies.

Seems like normal price plus cheaper elsewhere.

Tried to get JB HI FI to price match the "Roater" but they said they won't where bad spelling is involved.

    • Argh…I read the title twice to ensure I didn't make a mistake and still missed it. Thanks for pointing it out - fixed.

I had the Hottop KN-8828B-2K+ prior to my current one (Bullet), which had the ability to connect to a PC.

The hottops are a nice unit that can do 250g batches, however I would suggest looking at a Behmor for around $650. Especially if you are looking to start out and give it a try.

    • Agree on the Behmor.
It was a few years ago, but I picked mine up 2nd hand for $300

This is a good roaster, but definitely not for beginners.

Cheapest would be the popcorn maker…but I never had consistent results and I kept melting them.

Behmor 1600 would be a similar machine to this. Not as advanced but significantly cheaper

I have a Kaffelogic and really like it. Small batch size but I make it often and always have fresh coffee.

I'd only get this Hottop if you really know what you are doing/want

FWIW, those beans would be worth 13.50/kg plus delivery

    • Other alternative to a popcorn maker is a breadmaker & heat gun (aka corretto) - a step up from a popcorn maker and provides a bit more control + more capacity (depending on your breadmaker model).

      • A corretto is definitely not for the beginner and requires more fiddling around and sourcing parts. Good for those really interested or have tried roasting before and can DIY.

    • I'm still using a popcorn maker, and haven't melted one yet.
I do need to do 80g at a time and wait a fair while between batches.

Been good for the last 3 years.
I think I got it for $15 so even if it breaks I wouldn't be too sad.

  • Might stick to a pan

  • Not for everyone they say

  • Love coffee, love expensive machines and grinders but…this has gone too far.

  • This will go along well with that $7000~ bargain coffee maker last week.

  • I use a Gene Cafe roaster and buy green beans from the Beanbay, still buy a bag or two when decent roaster have a good sale on but green beans can last for a long time if kept in the correct environment. Popcorn makers are easy to use but require some mods, but you can generally only roast less than 100g at a time with the ones I’ve seen
