I bought the Javelot Pro 2 hunting kit and I wanted another smaller torch to use so have been eyeing this thing out.

It's going to be discounted tomorrow night.

I also want to buy the headlamp with red but am waiting for that to get a bit cheaper.

I've seen videos of this thing and it looks solid and is 4200 lumens.

  • Have you considered the Armytek Wizard C2 WR headlamp?

    • hmm.. I haven't, but it does look interesting.. The website says you need to "unscrew" the tail cap to charge it? Is that so? or is it just a slight twist / turn to get it into charge mode or something?

I currently use a (crappy) Nicron thing (I don't know the exact model) but it's a flashlight with a pair of green and a pair of red LEDs.. They're not very bright but it's all I use to find my way around camp whilst hunting. I want something that can do red light, and brighter. And I want it to be mountable to my face (lol).

      • I don't have the Red/White version as they weren't a product they had years ago when I bought mine.

Yeah it's just a slight turn to start charging mode. I take about 6 charged batteries when I go hunting/camping so if I cbf'd charging it doesn't matter. Also, depending on the time of year, having a headlight on your bonce can be a huge pain in the face. So many bugs!

I often clip it on my belt so they are away from my face, but the red light should help with that. I think I will buy the one I linked you when I see them on sale.
Flightstore's price isn't bad actually considering the exchange rate.

        • I'm going to keep an eye out on these and the olight ones.. I do exactly what you described with my thermal batteries for my thermal scope. I take 8 charged ones and also take a bloody truck battery (gel) in the back of my car which I connect these two cig plugs onto.. I charge the truck battery at home with a shitty trickle charger from Aldi, then I charge everything when I'm out and about and need more juice. Usually, that's after the second day of hunting / camping.

    • When they get this size i reckon there just a bit too heavy,I have the Olight Perun equivalent…

  • Their proximity sensors seem like a good idea! Any practical experience?

    • Not myself, but I would be happy to post here again once I receive it and test it out for myself. I have a Nitecore Tini 2 that I keep in my pocket and I swear it's nearly burned a hole in my pocket when I accidentally turn it on..

      • The Seeker 3 pro has a lockout fuction after it's been inactive for 30 seconds, you then need to turn the dial to unlock it before it will turn on.

The sensor works instantly too when something gets too close.

4200 lumen output will be very brief. I wish Olight would provide more LED options. This and most of their lights have cool white tint which I personally dislike. And once again they use the (imo) silly proprietary charging solution. If you want to go down the rabbit hole of lights do check out Emisar brand https://intl-outdoor.com/

I do prefer USB-C for "all the things" but I can't get past how good the magnetic thing is when I'm putting the rifle back in the car and driving around again because I can just throw the magnet onto the back of the Javelot and it charges whilst I drive around the farm. . So I guess, in my case, I already have the silly proprietary thingo and it just works well with this as my second light.

    • Only go down Emisar if you're serious, need to purchase battery and charger separately and you will need to spend time learning the firmware

Why go with a custom "magnetic" charging cable? Seems so inconvenient. You run the risk of damaging this thing, and spending more to replace it instead of having something on hand and easy to procure like a type C.

    • Waterproofing is less of a problem when the unit is sealed. Having a charging port that needs to be sealed each time you finish charging increases failure rate.

      • Its just as sealed as one with normal cells that you can remove and charge in a quality charger. But all of the newer Olights seem to have proprietary cells and proprietary charging and that's a big no from me.

    • Why go with a custom "magnetic" charging cable? Seems so inconvenient.

I find them much more convenient than a type C socket. I can just literally hold the connector near the back of the torch and it snaps itself on right away. With my USB-C lights I have to open a tiny flap and manually plug it in. The socket will be prone to wearing out and damage if the torch is jostled the wrong way while charging, e.g. in a car. The flap can fall out or break at the attachment point after a while too.

You run the risk of damaging this thing,

It's much easier to damage a USB socket and rigid USB cable than a magnetic connector.

and spending more to replace it instead of having something on hand and easy to procure like a type C.

A replacement is $21.95 or $16.95 with $5 ebay plus coupon so it's not too expensive or hard to find. You can also get a USB-C adaptor and keep it in your gadget pouch for emergencies but it's easier to lose than a cable.

      • Fair enough, water proofing is very important, I haven't damaged a usb socket flap yet on one of these bigger torches, except on my cheapo key ring light. But I now see why this has its advantages.

        • Fair enough, water proofing is very important

My ~$300 Cycliq bike light/camera died after 1 ride in very light rain. Water got in through the charging flap. I was pretty annoyed.

Another concern is if there's water in the charging port and a cable is plugged in, electrolytic corrosion will quickly occur. That's why devices with more smarts (like smartphones) will warn you if moisture is detected in the charging port. Dumber devices like a torch would just charge and corrode itself.

Got the previous version (seeker 2). Solid torch.

  • I just bought this via Amazon for $97.98, they have it for $139.97 and a 30% coupon voucher was available, I'm not sure if this is available to everyone or Amazon prime only but I grabbed it straight away.

      No 30% voucher for me.

Good deal but no extra 30% off that I can see even with prime. Enjoy your half price torch!

    • NICE! I don't see the discount so will just wait for the sale tonight when it will be that price anyway. Plus, I think they throw in some keychain torch with the free shipping when I get it directly from the olight site tonight.
