FAQ thanks to BG

Question Answer
1. Is Boost operated by Telstra network? Yes, on the full Telstra network
2. Does Boost support 5G? Yes, for all Boost prepaid customers and it is currently on trial until 3 April 2023
From 4 April 2023, 5G network access will be included as standard on your service and we’ll be introducing capped download speed caps on our 4G and 5G networks
3. Does Boost support e-SIM? Sadly not at this stage. However there are plans to do so
4. Do you have to activate the SIM within 30 days? Every Cashrewards Boost cashback up to and including May 31 has been approved (confirmed by TA) - provided you activated within 30 days of order
5. How long is the SIM expiry? Usually 1 year, but to qualify for cashback the SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering
6. It is showing “new customer” on Boost website. What does this mean? New customer term is only for the additional Boost data, and nothing to do with the cashback offer
7. Can I receive international text message (aka int. roaming) with this SIM by default? Yes, you can receive SMS while overseas, but can’t send outgoing to Australia
8. How long does it take to receive the SIM? According to the Boost Rep: Once dispatched, you should receive your order within the following business days: Metro Areas – 2-5 business days for capital cities – Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart & Brisbane (order before 4pm). Non Metro or Regional / remote areas – 3-7 business days
9. Is porting in a Telstra number to Boost considered a "new customer"? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Porting a number from Telstra to Boost is definitely considered a new customer
10. Are you able to purchase multiple plans using different names / ID (or can I purchase 4 x plans for the family using my own details)? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Received clarification from the team and this is a tricky one since for compliance the terms is showing the customer is only allowed 1 sim per transaction but he can buy multiple SIMs and then activate them all under his name and he will then be able to manage all the numbers when he logs into the App with his Boost ID.
11. Information on what to do when the "please try again later" message comes up List of indicators that can affect how your order is flagged in different financial systems, which can hopefully help you understand what is going wrong
12. Can this be used to recharge? No, this is a starter pack. Using as a "recharge" is being dis-allowed and activating first and moving the number may be allowed but is frowned upon and may not be allowed in future depending on how you ask for it.

Enjoy!

Hey that's not fair, you Brodened all the best comments. Anyway livin the dream thanks to Boost sim deals with profit.

    • +3

You forgot the original and the best - "I'm a savvy SIM slut".

  • +1

Pmsl, ordered one just an hour ago for 2.10, guess I'm off to order another 1 or 3.

    • +2

$12 promo price ends on Tuesday.

      • So unlikely to see up to $4 profit this time around? 🥲

      • Lol so what are you saying, instead of 1 or 3, 10 or 30 instead :-)

    • +3

Order one for each increase to dollar cost average!

      • +1

Haha that's why I love these Boost profits. New deal with better profit? No worries, just buy a few more (as many as you can) of those and you essentially dollar-cost your profit average up. Win win.

  • Are they tracking now?

    • Just did a few, had absolutely no issues.

  • +2

    The profit, she grows.

    • It’s a bear market

  • -5

    Boost must really be desperate

  • Now we're talking…Thanks OP

  • thanks OP, picked 1 for swap

  • -1

Every couple of days either cash rewards or shop back have these deals so boost must truly be desperate.

    • +1

It is not about it, about a way of new customers acquisition for both parties.

Kogan has been doing for years. No one is doing it for charity.

      • Yeah I have a few backed up but I bought 2 recently at 30 minute intervals and 1 tracked and 1 didn't.

  • Still getting error messages. Bugger! Ran out of SIMs on Thursday.

    • If I could get one to you without shipping costs I'd give you a couple but alas it's a long walk to Perth to give a few away.

  • +4

With this profit, I will invest into high-growth assets.

  • +1

The profits are trickling up ever so slightly. Will we ever see $4 again?

  • I already have 2 that i need to activate soon… Do i buy?

  • Do these necessarily have to be activated under the same name as the purchaser?
Person A buys, then Person B activates instead. Does that interfere with receiving cashback?

    • +2

Nope! As long as it's activated within 30 days of purchase.

  • Thanks for the heads up, will collect today. I can't make myself buy everytime, just seems too greedy (and too much risk)

    • How do you collect today?

      • Sorry, I meant I will buy one today and collect my $2.50 (which has tracked now)

sometimes I just give it a miss even though some consider it free money

  • +1

Kiling my time trying to max this, ( also, needed an excuse not to change my son's nappy…)

Well I got this message after 4 sim bought.
    "SORRY, SOMETHING WENT WRONG
We’re sorry but we’re experiencing technical issues. Please try again later."

All different name and email, but same ip address.

    • I did 6 one after the other a few days back all with the same details, no issues.

    • same error message here

  • Missed out on 30 cents.

  • Hi all. Newbie to OzBargain. Just need to ask the obvious from all you pro Boost SIM "sluts" if you ppl don't mind 😉

Q1) Can we activate on the same Boost app (using one name & email) multiple new lines & still qualify for all the cashbacks?

Q2) If yes, then the 1st new customer line will get 50G whilst subsequent additional lines will only get 25G I presume?

    • +1

Q1, Yes, can activate with the same name and email
Q2. No, all the sims get the 50GB.

  • +2

Did anyone have their last one sent as a "parcel" by Startrack? Kind of annoying as expected it to just be in the letterbox like the last few times. Instead had to trek to the post office to collect…

    • Seems like Toll (the carrier that forwards it to StarTrack) ran out of StarTrack mailing bags due to us OzBargainers grinding SIMs xd

    • Yeah the used to be AusPost, even though the email alert said StarTrack, but my last three we all StarTrack. They get to Perth a lot faster now but you do need to sign for them.

      • Never needed to sign for any of the StarTrack satchels. They just get put in my letterbox.

      • Got my latest round of dispatch emails and they're back to the AusPost Domestic Letter with Tracking envelopes.

Need a counter- or dire-boost so I can bounce back and forth. Any takers?

  • Perfect for Sim slutting between amaysim (with cashback) and boost.

    • Who's giving you cashback on amaysim?

      • Shopback.

        • No cashback for amaysim showing on ShopBack for me.

          • @wavesgreen: Showing for me, and is what I've done last 2 years for primary no.
Think it was EOFY sale, $120 365 day sim reduced to $60, $17.50 cashback 2022, $7 cashback 2023, used Boost to port out and back in as a 'new user'.

Many of the plans are showing as 0% currently including my current plan, while others are showing upto 70% but don't see anything enticing for my own needs.

Edit.. ok could see up to 70% but literally as I was reading it changed to store currently unavailable.

      • Was cashrewards but looks like amaysim isn't doing any cashback offers now.

  • Just bought and tracked.

  • +1

First time sim slutting, except I might be doing it different to others. I have a dual sim phone, keeping my current number with Aldi to receive calls, and have 3 months lined up of free calls/txt/data. It currently doesnt matter to Me what my number is, so I feel no need to port My number unless there is a good deal with boost I would stay with them. Been using boost for about 2 weeks and its quite good even with 5g working. It seems a pity to waste sim cards though, I would happily stay with them if a reasonable deal came up. Still a big saving for 3 months of prepaid phone.

  • +1

I plan to try this setup once my current plan expires at the end of the year. SIM 1: Main phone number with the cheapest yearly prepaid (my current choice) | SIM 2: Data only.

To not have to look out for deals monthly and considering the 30 day expiry period, I will buy two SIMs for every cashback deal, one to activate immediately and another to activate after 28-30 days. Then I pray for another deal to come around to repeat. If no deals come around I will have some prepaid data to fall back onto.

Does this sound right? Apologies if this has been outlined in the wiki or somewhere else.

    • +1

      Yup all good there.

That Amaysim plan your thinking about is what I'm on but both 2022 and 2023 they had it down to $60 in June(EOFY sale).

I disabled auto recharge on Amaysim and they offered me the same plan near the end for $90 but then had the $60 sale(new users) so I used Boost to port out and back in at $60.

  • Has boost tracking been slow lately for this profit one ?
normally tracks within a few minutes, but the last $14.50 CB I bought not tracked yet

    • Only done 4 but all where under 3mins, 1 was less than 30 seconds.
Just did one 20 mins ago, it tracked within minutes.
Other day had 1 in around 1min then the 2nd took over half an hour.

      • 2nd took over half an hour.

Thanks for letting me know hope mine tracks soon within that over half an hour window. This is my first one for the $14.50 deal and for today tho. So I really doubt it is tracking properly.

Boost order cancellations requests are a nightmare/ (a scam IMO), dont really wanna go that pathway.
Hopefully CR can track and apply it.

        • +1

I always order 1 and wait for tracking before proceeding.

Did an order a little over 30mins ago and tracking was quick, a min or two.

  • +1

If I have a second slot for a SIM card on my phone, can I insert this as the second SIM, and then only use this for the data? But use my primary SIM for phone calls? is that possible?

    • +1

If duel sim yes, it could be an SD tray, check your phone model.
In settings, SIM manager you can set your phones Mobile data to use Sim 2, and calls and SMS to use Sim 1.

    • +1

Yep - just make your other sim also has volte support so that data switches over seamlessly while accepting a call / calling from your main sim.

  • +6

Hi guys. As per USER DC’s comment here, at 7:30am each Monday morning, Boost tracking pauses for 2-3 hours as they run scheduled backups. When it resumes, orders will report through. He PM’d me and I can see his order in the backlog. Nothing to worry about, you can continue to purchase as normal. :)

    • Yup thank you so much TA,

      • Tracked about 10 Mins ago

  • Thanks OP.

  • Ol' mate from OzBargain is not getting any takers for his get-Tesla-quick scheme.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/374884416983

    • Not what I consider to be the Ozbargainer spirit.
I've given a few of these away asking nothing in return.

      • Happens reasonably often I think.

Person buys three "pricing error" mobile phones or the limited stock of some item at a doorbuster price…it goes to Facebook Marketplace by the end of the day. At least with this Boost deal, the supply of SIMs available to other people is essentially unlimited. It's when there's a limited number of the item available that I get disappointed.

I just don't think this is too smart. Who is going to bid for a SIM on eBay? Might have some chance on FBM.

      • Its a nice idea but wouldnt you be liable if its misused? Or is that only after it is activated?

        • If seller pre activates, the service will be in their own name(unless they have good fake/stolen ID) and yes any criminal activity conducted with the service could cause problems for the seller.
Selling it unactivated, they run the risk of not getting their cashback approved, fine if they cover the purchase cost, ebay fees and shipping after selling.

  • +2

$14.50 cashback ended, now $14.35. Weep over missing out on 15c if that's your wont.

    • +1

No $4 dis time around ☹️ caved in at 15cents loss like a champ
