$Free PC/MAC/LINUX Game - McPixel (48 Hours Only)

70

A free game for you to play. It's free for this weekend only. After that you'll have to pay for it, it may also appear on steam.

Seems like a decent game, not for the children though. Some adult themes in there.
To support the developer you can buy the game for $2.99 on the Android Market (Google Play) or Apple App Store.

Note this download requires you have a torrent program installed like uTorrent. Which is a pity because it makes it harder to get. It's only 30MB why couldn't the developer upload it to his web server.

TIP: Don't want extra stuff installed on your computer. Download the .ZIP file and it extracts and you can run it like a portable app.

  • Nice!

I will upload to mediafire as soon as possible for you all to download!

You guys are scum, the developer likely hosted the torrent as even at 30mb a download the volume he will likely get after being featured on sites like this will cost him a LOT of money. Torrents are an awesome, legitimate and easy to use means for transmitting data and also allowing the developer statistics (ie to see how many times his app was downloaded).

Then you bag the developer out for not hosting it on a HTTP server and them deny him the ability to track the progress of the application's distribution.

Edit: ps. the torrent is 120MB, not 30.

The windows version is only 30mb. The torrent contains Portable/Non-Portable version on Windows, Linux and Mac.
And you do have a point, but if the developer did upload to a distribution site like mediafire/sourceforge they could track the download count themselves and can remove the download at any time when they have it as a paid only option.

And I didn't know a developer could have statistics with torrents. I do agree it is a better method just annoying to have to install a torrent client. But I guess it's still good to have, once in every while someone uploads some good legal content via. BitTorrent. Like the Aussie movie, The Tunnel.

no one was bagging the developer at all

I gotta disagree. The reason a developer releases something for free is to get sales from word of mouth after the offer expires. To do that, he'd want as many copies distributed as possible, even if it means he can't track them. Using an alternative for those who don't have a Torrent client does not make us 'scum'.

The only caveat to the above is that I hope liveyourlife removes it from mediafire after the free offer expires.

  • op, why would it be harder to get if it's a torrent?

It's just hard for those who don't use BitTorrent, not for me.
I use it often to share files friends, download an updated linux distro whenever I need it and there is some great content on sites like Vodo.

I guess it's just Torrents isn't as user-friendly as a HTTP download. And if a developer uploaded it onto their web-server it would look more professional. But for free, who can complain. Just download a torrent client and you'll keep yourself open for when some more great free content gets uploaded.

    • Because a lot of people don't have a Torrent client installed (me included). Installing a client and then downloading is 'harder' than just downloading.

      • some times you need to work a just little harder for 'Free' things .. you know like printing out the voucher to hand over or using a download client and selecting not to install the search bars and other crap [see C|net].

"The reason a developer releases something for free is to get sales from word of mouth after the offer expires. To do that, he'd want as many copies distributed as possible, even if it means he can't track them."

Well obviously he doesn't want 'everybody' to have a copy or there would be no one to sell it to - perhaps his choice of torrent is also for this reason - heck people who can torrent are vastly more likely to be able to 'find' a copy later without paying anyway. Those who would sit there and want only a http:// easy click option can pay for it?

        • Don't misunderstand, I'm not complaining that he chose to just release it as a Torrent. I was just explaining why it's 'harder' to get as a Torrent for some people.

  • Great to see The Pirate Bay is featuring this on their home page.

  • Anyone had any luck using the torrent download method? The torrent link didn't work for me

  • No probs here downloading with uTorrent.

  • wow took me awhile to realize what i was supposed to do lol nice game though (still don't understand the difference between silver/gold)

    • Gold means you got all the endings.
