  • Any idea when we will be getting the E1 Outdoor POE 4K?

Itching to buy one, wondering if anyone tried it with Synology NAS and if it works with no issues

I have a different camera model, but Reolink cameras work all the same when connecting to NASes and NVRs. In general, Reolink cameras work fine with Synology Surveillance Station (though keep in mind that you can only connect up to two cameras to your Synology NAS without needing to pay for additional licences), with the exception of one minor annoyance that I'd like to nitpick at: Even though both Synology Surveillance Station and most Reolink cameras support edge recording as an included feature, Synology specifically does not support edge recording from Reolink cameras.

In case anyone isn't aware of what edge recording is, imagine this scenario: Normally the footage from your cameras are saved onto your NAS, when there are no power or network connectivity issues. When the power goes out and your cameras are still powered by backup power from your UPS, the footage first records to an onboard SD card inserted into the camera itself. Once the power comes back on and connectivity with your NAS returns, if edge recording is supported by both the NAS and the camera, it will automatically sync the missing footage onto your NAS, so your NAS has a complete set of the surveillance footage, including the duration where the power was out. You won't be able to do this specifically with Synology Surveillance Station and any Reolink cameras, so you'll have to manually connect to your camera over the network and fetch the video files from the SD card.

Though, I must stress that I am just nitpicking at an edge case, and for the most part, my cameras work very well with my Synology NAS. Furthermore, most people don't connect their cameras to backup power like I do, so for these use-cases all of this is moot anyway.

      • A bit off topic: how about the other way? Do Reolink NVRs go friendly with other brands? I've heard they don't but not sure.

        • Nope. Didnt work with my old cameraa

          • @PCHammond: was it ONVIF? Is there any setting there to set the ONVIF Port on the NVR?

I've 3 X Reolink's RLC820A POE cameras working fine with a Synology NAS, running Synology Surveillance Station. You get 2 x free IP Camera licenses, if you want more than 2 then have to a buy extra camera licenses. You can setup the cameras to record to a NAS and also have the mini sd cards working inside the cameras at the same time, so the camera will also store motion enabled recordings locally - which can be accessed via the Reolink app on phone or PC from anywhere.

I was wondering if the app was any good and it's mostly bad reviews on Google play and ios stores. Yikes

    • +3

I've personally never had a problem with the iOS app in the 2 years I've been using it.

App works really well. Have 6 cameras and using for about 4ish years. Five of my mates now use reolink as i highly recommended them and all are happy. Im not a rep just s happy customer lol.

    • +1

Not sure what that's about. The Reolink app is one of the best camera apps out there.

As others above have said, I use the app daily, and I have several friends and family also using the app as well. I have zero complaints.

<edit: just had a look, lots of people seem to have stability or connection issues. I have to say I've never seen a whisper of that>

    • Been using the app with 6 x POE cameras and one Wifi camera - has been rock solid, no complaints.

The interface is actually really intuitive. My wife and kids use it no problem. That right there is a glowing endorsement of its ease of use.

10x better than commercial grade camera apps I've used.

  • It’s showing as $260.61 for me - is this expired?

    • Did you use the coupon code from the deal description?

      • If only I could read.. Completely missed that one.. thanks

Is there any deal for the wifi version?

  • @dealbest, can you put this deal on amazon?

How are the rotating mechanism on these? Not sure if it is made of metal or better materials or not.
Got the E1 Outdoor one and it isn't good. Works for 1 month and can no longer rotate correctly (not to mention the return position is broken).
