    that love middle eastern food

    i prefer something a little more edgy…

    How are their falafels ?

    • really depends on the chef , by most of the times hot crispy with a spicy touch

      • really depends on the chef

so you're saying the food there is inconsistent ?

        • +2

          yes kind sir
Overall its around 7/10 , if it was consistent, id give it a 8.5/10

        • I was tempted by this deal myself, I haven't had good Lebanese food in years & when I last did my mate's mum was a stellar cook, so the bar is set pretty high for me.

The only two things that put me off were firstly that it's thru Cudo, who don't have the best reputation for group buy dining deals IIRC; and secondly, the inconsistency you've mentioned in both food & service at the restaurant end.

That said; as you seem to be quite knowledgeable in this regard; could you recommend an alternative Lebanese restaurant (anywhere in Sydney) with consistently good food & service? Thanks in advance! :)

please note, no alcohol allowed in the restaurant

    WT !!!

    That's NOT Kosher

    • -1

And you wondered why I didn't give you the time of day in the kosher/halal food deal.

  • +2

So is this place halal or not? Probably should put that in the description, I would hate to get there and try to order some pork or beer only to be ejected from the establishment.

    • you wont get beer, unless it's non-alcoholic.

      • +1

        Ginger beer, mayhaps! ;)

        • +1

          or a 'root beer'

        • Here's a blast from the past…Horehound Beer! Actually, if you can find any around (Bundaberg used to make it) it's a truly delicious drop! :)

Has anyone else had enough of jv polluting every deal with his childish, annoying comments especially those with with racist undertones.

    • Apparently not.

    • can't see the racist undertones
      pl elaborate
am normally sensitive to inappropriate or rude comment

  • +1

I went to this place a couple of times when I lived in Sydney. The food is great. Would highly recommend.

@ownage input: Yes it is a halal restaurant, but most restaurants wouldn't get offended if you asked for pork and alcohol. They might be a bit confused as to why you are ordering dishes and drinks that aren't on their menu though.

  • cc of email to cudo who promise a refund.
    we shall see…

not happy with the offer: seek refund of the remaining vouchers and I did not even get the promised 2 desserts, fattoush, and small chopped pieces of turkish delight were not what was implied.
I quote from and comment on the offer:
    meals enjoyed in expandable pants.
1, serving size was limited - I had to eat more bread and still not fill my pants. Not a big eater [only 65kg now.]
normally $47 – not sure how.
    2. the owner in 50s+ lifestyle magazine 4 page 13 says the mixed plate cost $15. or $30 per head. We had to ask for the tea [demeaning], sweets [desserts never came but they fobbed us off with 1 Turkish delight block chopped into little pieces. Felt cheapened. sink your teeth into…
my partner took the mixed meat plate: moist chicken shish tawook, lamb pieces, onion kofte, with fresh Lebanese bread, garlic sauce and chilli sauce
I took the vegetarian: creamy smoky babaganoush, hommous, [not enough] fresh tabouli, extra felafel, [none I could see] fattoush, not given at all]. I could not describe it to the waiter enough and he told me to look up the menu for next time!
your choice of hot or cold mezze plate including hommus, baba ganoush, fried eggplant served with fresh tangy yoghurt or cauliflower lightly fried and served with tahini sauce [all came as part of the mixed plate and not as 2 extra dishes as implied here.
Two desserts of rose almond Turkish delight [one finely chopped].
Had to ask for this cinnamon tea
big mistake buying 10! I remember the old management who had better serves of food.

    =======================
    as an aside,
a complaint on ozbargain is worth more than the dept of fair tradings diffident efforts which have wasted time with no result beyond being told to appeal to the tribunal case by case,
when liberal governments cut public services, staff, and regulators, and favour businesses over citizens [consumers] they are only lackeys of businesses which fleece the public while leaders like Nero fiddle and Romes burn pre and post GFC.

counsumer citizens realise there is no justice worth the spelling, unless you have deep pockets to hire lawyers to fight the businesses which defend their unethical and immoral practices tooth and nail. - a general comment on government and busniess, not aimed at this case

    • copy of the reply from cudo to me:
      do not trust cudo.
unsatisfactory cudo response ignores the lack of provision of the offer as promised:

"Our satisfaction guarantee states that we will always endeavour to provide our customers with fantastic offers; as they were originally described with the merchant fulfilling all their obligations or we will provide you with your money back.

We feel that in this instance there is no grounds for a refund as the merchant and Cudo have provided you with a voucher for two mixed mains dessert and a drink.

In regards to portion sizes each restaurant is different and portion sizes vary from place to place.

      Warm Regards,
      Rebecca
      The Cudo Team
      www.cudo.com.au

next step will have to be fair tading though they may be less able under their able political por-business leaders.

      • my response to cudo:

        it is not so simple

the promised items were not given

        I had to ask.

for each item I remembered after they took away the voucher.

i could not ask them to show me the voucher to point out item by item hem what they did not give without appearing rude.

I was intimidated by their lack of interest each time I asked for 1 item, then another.

        they exploited this.

        they misrepresented what they offered.

cudo marketed this as their agents.

to say that they gave me a plate of two mixed mains etc misrepresents what was on the ad further and this is a poor response on cudo's part.

the Australian Consumer Law now applies.

misrepresentation and your negligent [careless, regardless whether true or false] response compound your breach.

you should no better than a businessman who may plead ignorance of the law.

ring me to resolve this properly and not fob me off with more misrepresent ions.

        • cudo's continued evasion:

          Thank you for your email.

Unfortunately we are not set up as a call centre.

As my coleague has already said to you - Our satisfaction guarantee states that we will always endeavour to provide our customers with fantastic offers; as they were originally described with the merchant fulfilling all their obligations or we will provide you with your money back.

We feel that in this instance there is no grounds for a refund as the merchant and Cudo have provided you with a voucher for two mixed mains dessert and a drink.

In regards to portion sizes each restaurant is different and portion sizes vary from place to place.

        • my response:

          you are missing the point.

the offeror said he would give us fattoush - he did not

I had to ask a few times before the tea came

I did not get the desserts even though they were stated on the voucher as an additional item.

the turkish delight piece [not pieces promised was chopped into little pieces.

it is like saying we give you two marshmallows but chop one into many small pieces.

          please read the offer.

see where the offer was not honoured.

see the poisoned environment where I am expected to go back for more poor service and lack of good faith.

your ability to evade the issues is disappointing and lacks the integrity which led me to reply on your offer.

          I have 9 other vouchers.

I ask for a full refund.

I ask you to examine the Australian Consumer Act which directly relates to such misrepresentations and your shared responsibility as agent for you business partner's acts..
I shall report you and the offeror to the dept of fair trading as you seem to have no knowledge of your legal responsibilities and persist in flimsy excuses which disregard
          the facts.

        • And what have you learned about buying restaurant vouchers online…

        • response from fair trading:

I refer to your correspondence dated 28 September 2012 regarding your dealings with www.cudo.com.au
          NSW Fair Trading requires further information in order to address the issues you have raised. Please provide the following information, quoting reference number 6352696 by reply email;

          Cudo voucher number/s:

Your email address used for the Cudo purchase: [why can't they ask for this on their website in the first place?]

          Details of deal purchased:

Please note that if Fair Trading does not hear from you within five (5) working days from the date of this letter, we will assume that the matter has been resolved.
[the dept tries to get out of even dealing with complaints. it does not ring but sends this aggressive note to consumers, but for businesses it mounts many soft education campaigns.
consumers are easy to kick around.]

  • previous post was from the OFT

now finally from cudo on 10/10/12
I am glad they decided not to tangle with the government this time
was not looking forward to appealing through the CTTT
my responses are numbered after the points they make.

    Thank you for your email.
We’re sorry to hear that you had a less than fantastic experience when you redeemed your voucher.
    1. no admisssion of their role or fault in any of this

We want you to experience exceptional service that allows you to relax, enjoy yourself and leaves a lasting impression.
    2. contradicts their earlier email to me.
if they had done so earlier I could have some goodwill towards them at least.

So, we’ve processed a full refund of $190 back onto the original method of payment.
    3. thank you for the delayed response.

The funds from the refund will appear in your account within 10 working days.
    4. previously was advised by groupon not to use their services as a solution to their unsatisfactory business model. a pity really as in a perfect world these offers are good for business and good for cousumers if everyone is ethical.

    • money received the same day
had to hunt around for the card I used
at 60+ no longer able to have instant recall of my various cards.
disaapointing that they could not have positively recognised their violations of the ustralian conusmer law initial but had to put me through this game of attrition which they win when customers don't bother with bad business practices.
if an online biz cannot match normal biz practices they should not pretend to be offering something better when their biz ethics are suspect and unaccountable unlike normal retail stores where you have more comeback.
