Lowes price according to 3Camel. Was looking to get a 64gb to $18 but $10 extra gets 256gb, not a bad deal for a brand usb storage device.

Buy 2 and it comes to $24.90 each.

"quickly transfer files between devices at USB 3.1 high speeds of up to 150MB/s". That is Read Speed.

https://www.everythingusb.com/dual-flash-drives.html quotes Read Speed 110 (small files) - 140 (large files), and Write Speed 18 (small files) - 28 (large files).

    • +4

I'm so sick of this type of marketing with flash drives.. realistically we all need the speeds to be opposite.

      • +2

Almost 10 years ago I purchased a flash drive which could write at 180MB/s.

You would think we wouldn't still be buying flash drives which take eons to fill to their capacity.

      • +2

remember when usb3 was first released
        UP TO 10X FASTER
where everything on the drive was usb2.0 except for the plug

  • Save another 10% using gift cards from earlier today 😆

Decent drive, does hwhat it says on the box.
The sliding mechanism can be finicky at times, will retract when inserting on the USB-C sometimes. Requires user to maintain pressure on latch thing

    • +5

The slide mechanism broke on both side on mine.
Wouldn't recommend getting this drive for this reason alone despite the cheap price.

I ripped the plastic case apart with pliers and it's 100% better now lol

      • +1

I got a USB A to USB C 3.1 adaptor and I leave it permanently on the A end. I think it slows my transfer speeds, but. This way the slider doesn't annoy me at least.

I might try your pliers move though. Inbox a pic of the inside?

    • +1

Mine is finicky when inserting to type A and have to hold the slider when inserting. I like the idea but the implementation of the mechanism seems a bit floored. I'd go for flip type one for my next purchase, something like the SanDisk Dual Drive Luxe.

Bought a non retractable version from officeworks for 79$ about 9 months ago, if only I waited 9 months, thats why I am too poor

    • Stop rule of thumb for you is, when you want to purchase something, wait at least 9 months to save a fortune.

  • +8

I’ve found that the mechanism that holds the connector in place on these can go bad, leaving you having to hold with all your might on that tiny plastic thing to hold it out. I’d recommend the flippy one instead.

  • Is type-C on the PC side a thing now?

While I appreciate the need to eliminate different USB port for mobile devices for multiple reasons, I'm unsure if the world is ready to move away from type-A on PCs….

Not that I enjoy having to flip the connector when I don't get it inserted the first time.

    • +1

My laptop doesn't have a USB port, only type C! I'm pretty sure, I need cables for my external HDD etc

      • +6

So much of that didn't make sense.

        • +2

I've got the same situation so I'm assuming they meant adaptors for HDMI, USBA ect.

  • +2

I prefer the all metal Sandisk drives. Seem a bit faster, and makes it easier to burn your fingers.

    • +3

perfect for obliterating your fingerprints. catch me if you can!

    • They get my vote.
Write speed still isn't great but they are faster than this one.
      And they won't break!

  • mine broke in a couple months, not sure if i was unlucky

    • Perhaps unlucky. Mine has been going strong for a few years now and I've beat up on it quite a bit.

  • I second that: these things are poorly designed

  • really wish it was amazon au instead of US

  • +6

Wow the write speed is shockingly slow.. 20-30mb/sec or something. Even the $25 evo plus microSD cards are 80mb/sec sustained write.

  • +1

Note that because of outer metal casing, this drive is very hot while in use

    • +1

Constantly surprised at how hot these get. Probably wouldn't get another, it can't be good for reliability.

    • Better the casing gets hot and acts as a heat sink, thank baking the electronics though.

  • +5

Good deal. I decided not to buy it though. I've realised that as a general rule, it's best not to buy storage until you need it. The price per GB goes down naturally over time, and even paying RRP in 2 years will probably be less than this. Tempting though.

  • This is a great way to back files without using cloud storage. Thanks Op

    • +1

If you're using cheap flash drives to back up your data, you may as well back up your data to the recycling bin.

      • This is used to transfer from my phone to the usb which then will be transferred to long term storage.

        • surely you can cable connect your phone to your PC and back up directly to HDD at much better speed too?

My NAS has an app for the phone so I simply upload to it directly via wifi.

  • Purchase now, think later.

    I already have 1, now 2 lol

    • +2

That's the way. You can never find them when you need one.

      • im sure my wife or kids will take them as usual.
