eyeing on 512gb. Wish it goes <$50

  • Thanks got 2!

Samsung Evo Plus 256 has comparable r/w speeds and quality for cheaper everyday price. Has been as low as $25 I believe.

    • +3

I nearly bought the Samsung one but discovered the Centre Com price hence didn't go down the Samsung path.

      $49 @ JB Hi-Fi right now. Samsung 256GB Micro SD Evo Plus (Gen2): https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-256gb-micro-sd-ev…

      $35.98 @ Amazon AU: https://amazon.com.au/SAMSUNG-Adaptor-Expanded-Storage-MB-MC…

      $37 @ TGG: https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/samsung-256gb-micro-sdxc-evo-…

      $49 @ HN: https://www.harveynorman.com.au/samsung-evo-plus-gen2-256gb-…

Warranty wise: JB Hi-Fi offers 1 year only, while Amazon AU offers '10-year limited warranty'.

nice analysis. however people need to stop parroting the 'warranty' lines from companies, and stand up for their statutory consumer rights. Easier said than done of course, so yes advertised warranty is a factor in purchasing decisions.

        • +2

This is true but a warranty is simpler to understand and plan around.

What are the statutory rights that apply to a SD card? 🤷🏾

Are those rights the same if it’s used in a dash cam or a NAS?

How do you get a vendor to respond to a claim..

@jason andrade: In QLD you threaten them with lodging form 1

Not sure about other states, but there must be similar ways of forcing their hand.

            • @Talix: It wasn’t worth getting into an argument about whether I would drive to Auburn or not (and being honest, I wouldn’t for $8).

Instead of buying two at $37.05 I bought one for $45.

Which was better than $91 even if it wasn’t as great as $39.

          • @jason andrade: All valid questions and annoyingly inconvenient for the average consumer to navigate. Here is a great starting point to understand what your rights are: https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/problem-with-a-product-or-…

And ChatGPT is an excellent tool to help with navigating whatever situation you find yourself in regarding consumer law application and what steps to best take.

    • Depends what you want to use it for. The Evo Plus doesn't play well with Viofo dashcams. SanDisk Ultra are fine as is the Pro.

      • Just bought a 256gb Samsung Evo Plus for my Viofo camera… Is this a common complaint?

        • I don't know anything specific about those models, but I went with the high endurance models for mine after killing a bunch of regular ones in my security cams (presumably heat and constant writing)

  • Would this work ok in a handheld like the ROG Ally X?

    • +2

"For optimal performance on a ROG Ally X, it is recommended to use a microSD card with a read speed of at least 150MB/s and a write speed of at least 200MB/s to ensure smooth gameplay and quick loading times; look for cards labeled with UHS-I or UHS-II standards for the best speeds."
      — Read (150MB/s or more) is probably fine but write (200MB/s or more) is going to be an issue.

Just tried to price match at Officeworks Waurn Ponds, was told they have to charge an extra $8.95 to match postage from Centre Com since it's in Melbourne. Was OOS anyway so I didn't bother. Is this a new rule? Strange.

    • +3

Nope. They always take shipping into account (unless your option has local pickup)

    • +1

Nope. I called Officeworks and got the price beat.

Thanks OP. Ordered 1 from OW.

    • +2

Thats why you call JB from a mobile.

They dont need to know where you are :)

Ive price matched binglee a lot of times. And they dont exist in my state.

  • +1

Can we use this for Switch? Or any other recommendation?

    • +1

Yup. Currently using one in mine with no issues.

  • My local Officeworks (Wollongong) wouldn’t price match without adding delivery as there is no Centrecom store in Wollongong.

So it came out to $45 ($37+$8).

Which is still better than $91 but.. some kind of BS in a way.

    🤷🏾

  • FYI this is an A2 rated card. Google if it helps with your specific needs.

  • +1

Called office work and price beat. Bought over $65 so free delivery

  • +2

I was able to get my local JB HiFi to price match via Live Chat.

  • +1

The RRP feels ridiculous but I still think this was a pretty good deal. Paid with a discounted gift card, and will TRS it in a couple of weeks.

8 OzB internet points for all work!

  • This vs endure pro please?

    • Quick find found that ex-pro is 200/140MB vs 100/40 MB

  • +1

Thanks OP, got the card price matched with local JB.
