Few things that bother me… Pics show a Recessed plastic model but description states Aluminium housing.
They also state weather proof but the cameras in there pics arent..
Id say will look more like this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Home-Security-System-8-Channel-H-…
Also no mention of any mobile or iPhone support. to me this is a major feature that you will want.

For the price though not bad with the 19" LCD

    • But it does say iPhone support.

    • could be powder coated aluminium

  • vandal proof? sounds like a challenge!

  • Price is cheap.
420TV line is basic one won't recognize much thing from recording with a 1/3" ccd.
None brand DVR usually will freeze/restart if intended to use for 24/7.
250G HDD is not enough to hold long hours recording, depending on your need. And assume it's not a specific model designed for 24/7 operation.
Camera's LED can die very soon if not a quality one, make it blind at night.
At daytime, camera won't see anything at outdoor or facing outdoor.

    • Agree. 420TVL won't capture a lot unless it's used for close up. I have 600TVL CCTV but still cannot capture number plate clearly in broad day light from 8m away.

    CIF recording only….that turns your 420 TV line cameras into a 352 x 288 digitised image….
    About 0.1 megapixels

The 'top of the range' analogue dvr's do 4CIF,(almost identical to D1)
    704x576 - just over 0.4 megapixels…

With a camera that lowly specced and a hard drive that small you'll be recording lots of smooth moving real time fuzzy blobs, doing stuff to fuzzy blobs!

The 3.6mm camera lens would give a fairly wide angle view on the cameras, maybe 70ish degrees or so

Summary, you get what you pay for, it's a cheap system, ok for seeing stuff happen, won't help you identify anyone doing that stuff though unless you're really clever were you put the cameras- VERY close to where you want to identify someone, NOT on the house looking at a gate on a driveway for example, more by the gate on the driveway!

  • Thanks all for the detailed tech reviews.

One thing you guys might know, how do security camera systems work if a burglar turns off your mains power before entering? Surely nothing would be recorded?

I'd love to have a multi camera security systems so this looked interesting and strangely affordable.
But you're right, needs excellent picture clarity to be of any use, otherwise it's "Detective, here's a video of the blurry creature who robbed my house, in a dark coloured sedan of some kind"

    • If the power is cut then unless you have a UPS the recording will stop. Just make sure your power box is secure.

this is a great deal for the price. No worse than the swann rebranded junk that retails for about $1000 more.

  • can anyone reccomend an alternative brand?
