  • Great price for a very solid router.

  • How does this compare to the TP-Link Deco X90 AX6600 Tri-Band Wi-Fi 6 Mesh? Obviously cheaper and non mesh but I am not really understanding all the differences

    • Actually, both can mesh. Just different mesh

They are basically the same in terms that they all can be meshed together into a continuous WiFi connection at home. X90 is a tri-band and X73 is a dual-band. This means that X90 has a dedicated 5Ghz for backhaul. This means that X90 has a dedicated high-capacity line transmitting files between each mesh and is not used to go on the internet.

For example, if you have 50 people going through your dual band 5GHZ and go to the internet, it will get clogged and slow down. If you have 20 people going on the internet and only 30 people going through backhaul to get files from each other. This is much more efficient.

If you are going to wire backhaul, then there is no point in getting a tri-band. As wired is a backhaul itself.

Other than that, AX5400 means 5400 Mbps and AX6600 means 6600 Mbps. This is not to be confused with MB/s. 1MB/s is 8 Mbps. 5400Mbps = 675Mb/s and 6600Mbps = 825 MB/s. This is the amount of data transfer it can be transferred between each mesh/internet back and forth in perfect condition. There are other things that tend to decrease this such as walls and other radio frequencies.

Overall, if you only have 100Mbps NBN then probably best to stick with lower AX ranges. If you are planning to add NAS/Network Drive, then it is advisable to get this AX speed at a somewhat decent speed to support intranet speed for files transferring between NAS/PC/Smartphone within your own network.

I hope this helps. I was confused about this myself in early days.

      • Thanks appreciate the detailed response!

I just use the cheap routers supplied by ISP for $30ish (and always have a backup or two). Expensive routers aren't worth it and don't last long enough. Change my mind.

    • I have around 30-40 devices connected to my router in a small 2 bedroom (well 1 bedroom, 1 study at the moment) apartment and found ISP supplied routers to suck. Lights constantly disconncting, wifi cut outs from the bathroom (affecting my phone and Nest Mini). Buying a cheap $150 Wifi 6 router fixed all of this and even gives full 200mb speeds all the way out near my elevator, though admittedly I don't need that but it's good not having to turn off Wifi on my phone anymore once I walk out my door.

    AXE75 is better value at $239 https://ozb.me/o/3JaT?u=em

Thanks for posting this. Can't believe I missed this deal

Agreed on the bettter value since that models gives you the 6Ghz band.
My only concern was just how useable was the 6Ghz band. Saw a review that mentioned the range wasnt good.

Decided to save the money and get the AX73 instead. Can't go wrong with both though, and the current prices are great value.

      • Yeah, it's direct line of sight for any real benefit.
The XE75 would fix that problem but too expensive.

This seems like a decent deal?
