That's a very solid price, heard there are coil whine issues with it tho🤔

    • +3

Can vouch, this one is currently in my system and its not as bad as the scenario mentioned below - but it is there :( (actually it may be the GPU, it goes on when for whatever reason it crosses 500fps, its weird)

Also had it on another model I owned from Gigabyte (same manufacturer, basically) -
      Gigabyte B650M Gaming X AX AM5

Would come on under heavy processing load running through the system. (was definitely the mobo, swapped it out and it stopped)
      Was obnoxious.

Back in the day I had a "Zotac GeForce 9800 GTX+ (Plus)Amp!" that I bought with Kevin Rudd's $900 stimulus in the GFC.

Its coil whine was so loud, you could hear it from the other side of the house. I had no clue what if was as a 17 year old.

    • +2

I've recently returned a Gigabyte B650 Aorus Pro AX board due to coil whine. Replaced with a X670E Steel Legend, no issues.

I also returned a Gigabyte 4070 Windforce OC due to an extremely loud coil whine / grinding noise that would occur when the fans would kick in (and would happen repeatedly when the temp was hovering around the point where fans kick in, as they pulse on and off as needed). Wasn't the fan bearings, they spun freely without resistance. It was something electrical. Replaced with an MSI Gaming X Trio, no issues.

Maybe I was just very unlucky, but I'm not buying Gigabyte again.

      • I didn't realise you could return products for coil whine, that's nice to know, just curious how bad did it sound? Could you hear it over your headphones?

        • +1

There will be variables as to how loud it is. My case is on the desk, and an open / mesh style design, so it's louder than if it was on the floor in a very closed-off case. If you have headphones on you probably wouldn't hear, but stuff being relegated to using headphones just so you can use your PC in silence.

The motherboard video is during a benchmark, so the noise is consistent. Using productivity apps (Premiere Pro etc) the noise would pulse on and off constantly.

          • @simmo1985: Far out that would drive me insane, some people say they didn't have coil whine I just gotta hope and pray at this point, it's not gonna happen while doing undemanding tasks right, such as youTube/movie sights right? I sometimes watch movies with my brother on my setup and use the tv speakers, but if noise like that happened it would ruin the whole experience.

        not just you
the GB MOBO I mentioned above arrived DOA too
        absolutely silly company.

      • Hi, Going through all the reviews, steel legend feels like a solid motherboard. During your research, did you come across any other mobo as good for around the same price? Thanks :)

    • +2

      Yeap. Had one of these.
With 1 memory stick the problem wasn't really obvious. 2 sticks of ram and run prime95 - very obvious then.
Even on idle there was a slight whine which bothered me the most.

Ended up replacing with a more expensive MSI board.
AMD EXPO doesnt work properly on the MSI board though but at least there is no annoying noise.
MSI board requires me to bump voltage to memory from 1.25 (expo setting) to 1.28 to be stable at 5600mhz.

      • Noise on idle man that would suck, ig this model really does have issues, sadly already bought mine late last night

  • +3

My man just saved me $200 in total on 2 units.
    Many thanks!

I’ve been running this board. No noticeable coil whine on mine

    Great price!

I don’t get it who is building matx?
It’s a pretty dead platform compared to itx or atx

    • +11

matx is great. Significantly cheaper than itx and large enough to accommodate the features that most people actually need.

      • Maybe I should build an matx and try to understand the platform better. I have just heard that there aren’t many people building matx. I switched to atx builds after 4 itx mobos died on me over the course of ten years. I thought it was a lot of failures. So I am loving the atx flexibility and reliability atm. My ten year old 4770k still chugging on a used Msi z87 atx .

        • +1

How many PCIe slots are you using? Besides the need for multiple PCIe slots mATX has everything you usually want. mATX boards usually are built worse compared to ATX boards, but unless you are running the top-of-the-line CPUs, I personally feel there is no need for having an ATX board.

I am a fan of ITX, but I did not have the issues you did. I historically did not have a lot of mATX boards, but lately, with the crazy prices of ITX boards, I find them quite good value. My next new MB purchase will probably be a mATX board.

For 1 gamer, that does not have a lot of money to spend, that has a dedicated GPU (mATX have some old video connections on them) with a "good value" CPU… it should be fine.

          • @misu p:

            • mATX boards usually are built worse compared to ATX boards

            Pls do explain.

            • @Steakz: smaller means inferior, rigjt?
that's why he hass a massive Ute despite having an office job.
big means better big is strong big scary
              🎱👄🎱

            • @Steakz: It's just market segmentation. Manufacturers see mATX as the more budget, whereas ATX and iTX get the high end boards.

Do you know if this board has wifi or Bluetooth?

        • Both :)
WiFi 6 with Antennas and BT 5.2

          just gotta install the drivers

          EDIT:

          I'm actually wrong :(

I have the AX edition :((( very sad.

          • +1

@The Milk Man: in my defence
the listing description for the product on the deal is incorrect.
it mentions the antenna in the Back Panel description

I just called to cancel and to let them know if the error.

            I'm absolutely devastated 😭

    • +4

      No its NOT.
ATX is too big and mITX is too expensive and limited in choice.

    • I would've thought matx is the most common - neither too many expansion ports, nor too little. The only time I've ever maxed out a full atx board is when I got curious and added all kinds of unnecessary crap to the pci/e slots.

    • +1

we built 2x $3,500 Builds based around MATX
      didn't feel like paying $400 for a massive board I wouldn't need 🤨

    • I find mATX has positives from both worlds: smaller factor which looks neat on my desk with some flexibility. I might be minority, but I really enjoyed the challenge of putting together a hot system 12600k+3080 on a mATX and keeping it nice and cool; without breaking the bank on an ITX. Also, I only need PCIe for the 3080 so having empty PCIe ports on a glass side panel case kinda bothers me.

  • Any of you running 2 x 16gb 6000 cl30 gskill z5 stable on this motherboard? Having issues with my ds3h paired with this RAM using EXPO

    • Have you tried booting with expo after removing your m.2 drives? I'm running 2x16gb corsair veng 6000 cl30 on a b650 ds3h. I took out my m.2 sata, tried it again and it stuck. Reinstalled my m.2 after.

24/7 stable after stress tests since. Sounds weird but worth trying if you haven't.

      • Indeed it sounds bizarre but I’ll give it a try. Thanks for the tip!

  • +1

Bought this for $360 back in the day!

A bit slow at booting with xmp profiles to 6000.

Also the gfx slot is at the top (not second down) so if you are using a large cooler, you need a use the assymetrical type

  • -1

    Only one m.2 pcie slot

    You gotta be kidding

    Its 2023 right now

    • +3

      There's 2 m.2 slots in the specs, 1 Gen 5 and 1 Gen 4.

    • Looks like 2

    • -1

      It has 4 x USB 2.0

      • +2

        yeah, and 5x USB 3
and 1 USB C 3.2 back and USB C front
        and 2 USB 3.2

        what's your point? 🫶

  • Kinda bugs me that in motherboard form factor naming ‘m’ is used to denote micro instead of mew or simply u.

  • Damn…now I'm torn between this one and Gigabyte B650M GAMING X AX AM5… The last one seems better, but is it $60 better?

  • +1

Does the board come with wifi and bt?

    • +1

from IO output, seems no wifi and BT

    • Did you bother checking the product page…?

      • Yes I didn’t realise boards come without would have thought it was standard I guess I use too many apple desktops as well and they all have wifi bt

  • Should spend the budget meant for LG C3 42" OLED or this? If this, I am torn between this one and Gigabyte X670 GAMING X AX ATX Motherboard.

    • +3

I dont think shows come out to clear on the MOBO… maybe go with the TV

      • Yeah I am currently on the 5900x ITX build and have been wondering if I should get in on the cheap RAM. I know when I am ready to build on the AM5, RAM price is going to pick up haha…tough luck.

  • I had this, was DOA. Got ASRock B650E PG Riptide WiFi instead.

  • +2

I've never ever bought a Gigabyte motherboard that lasted longer than a year, some were even DOA. Nothing against OP but I don't recommend Gigabyte motherboards

    • Rip already bought, least it has 3y warranty
