Can these use a USB C dock like a Dell version?

    • +1

I believe they can, but not Thunderbolt because AMD. My kids have these and they are definitely USB C and I offered to buy them docked but they declined so while I'm pretty sure we didn't actually test it out.

      • +1

I have docks set up in the rooms, with old dell laptops, so they can just plug and move to anywhere in the house. So ideally looking for laptops that can still use the docks.

        • What's the dell dock model number? How does it connect? USB A, C?

            • @asa79: "Featuring a powerful DisplayPort over USB Type-C cable, with the Dell Dock you can quickly connect your laptop or tablet to a single data and power source up to 130W for Dell devices and 60W for non-Dell devices."

This laptop comes with a standard Lenovo 65w charger, but doesn't mean it needs all 65w….

              My advice: "Should be okay"

Just find a review of the model online to make sure the laptop doesn't draw over 60w of power in use. (Otherwise battery will be used too to fill the gap, and will sloooooowly drain while in use)

              • @GimmmeBargains: My question is this looks to do USB C docks where most amd laptops don't support them

                • +1

@asa79: Thinkpads are designed for corporate market, so imo much more likely to work.. I have a 2 year old e495 ThinkPad, with a older AMD chipset to this, and it works fantastic with USB C hub.

Need to make sure this laptop has display port over USB C then as a final check to see if it will work with a dock.

                • @asa79: What current AMD laptops don't support USB-C docking?

DisplayPort Alt-Mode has been supported for years, and now USB4 allows Thunderbolt compatibility as well.

                • @asa79: Not this model so cant guarentee itll work on this one specifically, but my E14 Gen2 (AMD) works with a ThinkPad USB C dock.

      • +1

Not quite right there. USB4 is compatible with Thunderbolt 3 and available on AMD devices, is a bit harder to find though.

Code not listes on SB. Need to decide which one more discount, SB or code.

      • Shopback is very confusing.
Their lenovo page says Do "Use only promo codes from ShopBack", Dont "Promo codes or voucher codes not approved by ShopBack".
But then the Notes section says "Cashback is eligible on any official Promo/Discount Code listed on the Lenovo website, regardless of it being listed on the ShopBack merchant page and up to 3 units per eligible product".

        https://www.shopback.com.au/lenovo

    • Any idea until when is the 10.4% shopback?

    • I got a confirmation email from shopback for the 10.4%, hopefully it goes through!

Nice deal for the new gen with 16:10 aspect ratio, thinner bezels and an additional USB-C port.

    • +1

16:10 is god tier for monitors. It feels so much better for work, gaming, anything. It really needs to come back. Dell used to make an amazing 16:10 ultrasharp which unfortunately wasnt great for gaming and double unfortunately isnt available any more.

  • +1

Make sure you update the BIOS as Lenovo have had some serious bugs fixed in the BIOS recently. I'm pretty sure it included stuff that loads before the OS and acted like a backdoor.

  • +1

Hopefully this means the T14 with Ryzen 7000 series will be released soon. They seem to be coming out later and later each year.

  • Is this a good enough laptop for everyday home type use? I.e. browsing, emails, etc

Seems good discount… Anything better for the same price?

    • +1

      Yes

    • +1

It's more than enough. However, a decent refurbished notebook will probably do the same job and costs much less!

      • +4

Unlikely to get a refurbished laptop with more than 4 cores and anything close to a recent model CPU. If I recall correctly most of the recently listed models were using 8th gen core i5's, this would be a substantial improvement in performance and battery life.

    • HP’s with Intel 12th Generation i5 processors are going at the same price point so check the prices around online including Harvey Norman

      • Would these HP's be a better bang for buck? Got any links to them? I'd appreciate it :)

        • The prices are up again by $300 for the 16GB model so need to wait a week or two for the to come again

I believe HP Build Quality is better. Lenovo has two USB C ports and come with USB C charger.
USB C charges are not commonly available in HP laptops except for a few high specs newer models

        • Unless you are comparing to an Elitebook / Probook, then no. The entry level HPs have rubbish build quality and will not last

    • +1

      more than enough.

  • Anyone know how the screen is on this?

  • Why are these laptops not customisable anymore? Cannot add more memory and more storage?

Everytime I go there the price is different, different options for different models. Today the price even changed as soon as I clicked on a Yoga 7…

    • It won't be the same price for Zen4 chips!

What is the weight and battery life?

    • good question! i want to know as well

  • What's the battery life like for web browsing, youtube and messaging?

  • Does this have a physical Ethernet port? No images shown of the right of the laptop

    • +1

It specifies the ports and slots further down the page. In the ports and slots section.

(Answer, yes it does have ethernet)

    • +1

Yes second port on the right

  • Is there any thinkpad that will support dual 4k monitor via thunderbolt ?

  • I actually prefer the E series over the T series. Unless weight is a big factor, the metal chassis just feels more durable and there's an extra storage slot in the E series that the T series doesn't have, so extra SSD. As the components are metal as well, you don't have those flimsy plastic clips that just break when you pop them up or when you replace the lid and squash them down (yes you can be very careful, but still higher risk than the E series)

    • The E is definitely not as durable as T, I've used both, unless something has changed recently, T's materials are much much better (and less flex too) than than E series.

    That almighty 45% NTSC again.

  • Anyone know if this one is good for a Linux setup? Might be tempted to buy for the missus as her internet browser, while I venture into unbuntu! Thoughts?

    • Zen 3 AMD shhave no issue with Linux now. That 45% NTSC is not ideal for media consuming though.

  • Are these goof for a high school student?

  • How would one of these go running 2x 4k screens?

    • +1

Two dp usb-c ports so no problem

      • Graphics wise this will be ok? Just running word & web browsing through external screens

        • +1

As long as not playing heavy games it will run fine

  • FFS just put a better display in with minimum 72% NTSC and 120Hz :\

    • +1

It's a business laptop where those features are generally not needed

      • +2

I'd even settle on 90Hz :) but the color improvement - do u wanna sell more laptops - what is it 50$+ to go from 42%-72%?

  • does the Ryzen™ 5 7530U compare to the APU seen in the gaming handhelds running the 6800 chips? apologies if silly question, naming schemes for CPUs confuse me

  • Fantastic deal, thanks OP. I would buy one if I didn't already have T495 and L15 Gen 1 still going strong.

  • Nvm, misread description!

  • hows the battery life on this one? seems like a small battery may be 4-5hrs max?

  • +6

Can confirm Shopback has approved the 10.4%, discount of $87.94 and brings the overall price down to $757.61

  • Is it a great deal as such?? RRP is $1800 etc.

Also Do you think I can play rocket league on this? I don't need high graphics just smooth and lowest settings is ok.

    Many thanks for your response.

    • +1

Low settings will run fine on the igpu

      • Much thanks. Now I can really pretend to work…..

  • +2

Shopback down to 3.2% today 28/7/23

  • Looks like a great deal!

  • Just entered the market looking for a laptop.

Been tossing up between this and a dated Carbon X1.
But for the price and specs I can make do with the laptop being a tiny bit thicker.

    • The screen on this is worse though, unless you're willing to source a better panel and install it yourself.

      • I'd rather have a few more cores than a sharper screen IMO.
The most I'm going to have open is VS-Code

        • It's not the sharpness, but more so the colour fidelity. 45% NTSC is something like 60% sRGB (at best), so everything will just be uninspiring. It also won't show images with their proper colour, so if your development involves graphics, then it won't be the best. The brightness is dimmer as well as well. However, if you got an external monitor, then it wouldn't matter as much.

That being said, I too would also pick this over an aging X1 Carbon, simply because the battery life is better. However, if you can find something with a 7735U or 6850U / 6800U, it would be so much better, since it's RDNA2, 6nm process, and DDR5, which is much better performance and power consuption over this 7730U which is Vega 7nm and DDR4.

            • @Skinnerr: I know it sounds ridiculous but I hate numpads. I got used to the dell xps 15s I use at work.

            • @Skinnerr: It's got pretty much the same CPU (Zen 3), but uses a higher power variant (45W TDP). OLED should give better colours, but risk of burn in (and can be more fragile). The CPU, together with the discrete GPU means more power consumption, but better gaming performance (and other nvidia features like RTX voice, NVENC, etc.). For AMD, you'd want AMD 6000 series or 7840 or 7735 or better.

Since it's 'refurbished', it's basically used. I don't know how Asus refurbishes. Personally, I wouldn't buy it, since it's probably heavier, less durable, and has worse battery life as a notebook. It really depends on what you want to do with it, but it would be best suited as a 'desktop replacement' than a true portable. Also, the RAM isn't sufficient at 16GB.

              • @happychappy1: Yeah it's basically a desktop for me, always plugged in. Just for media, browsing and light games. But I want the oled screen for watching sport.

  • I never know whether these "discounts" are legit when it comes to laptop and desktop home websites.

Seems that dell, HP, Lenovo and so on always have like 35 to 50 percent of laptop models only to discover they're being sold close to that price everywhere with no discount.

Not sale OP is wrong about this deal, I'm just sceptical when it comes to laptop discounts on manufacturer websites.

May purchase one if the deal appears legit.

    Thanks for the heads-up.

    • +1

Understand the skepticism but having watched these E14 models for a few years, the discounts are real. Getting in the 750-800 range is about as cheap as these things get with a normal price closer to ~1100. As previous posters have also mentioned, this one comes with more ram and SSD than a typical one in the 700-750 range so i'd say the extra cost is well worth it. Plus inflation etc

      • I'm actually considering a new laptop with photography in mind so think I'll have to give these a miss considering the screen. 45% NTSC seems like dog shit, however I may not understand the fractions or something.

        • +1

Yeah don’t get this laptop for photography. Get a yoga as their screens are much better

    • +1

      Deal is legit

$800 ~ $900 is the sweet spot for business laptops with 16GB RAM and decent specs

Shrinkflation has struck Lenovo in the last month though - they have downsized the FHD and WXGA screens from 72% NTSC/100% sRGB to 45% NTSC

Now you have to jump to the $1K+ models for a decent FHD/WXGA screen

This deal is OK if you need a laptop right now but the downsides are annoying:

      - Downsized screen
      - Old DDR4 chassis with HDMI 1.4 (cannot do 4K/60Hz)
      - 7530U is a rebadged 5625U with performance gains too small to notice

If you can wait, the top tier combo of Zen 4 7840U with GTX 1650 level integrated graphics, DDR5 and decent screen should be available before the end of the year
