It's a pretty worthwhile consideration for some eventually.

Investing time into how you spend has really beneficial effects on improving your cashflow and can allow you to increase your savings rate and subsequently income-generating asset ownership.

For most people, where the mean is having predominantly employment-sourced income and spending on products and services with Australian consumer prices, that makes the biggest difference of all - intentional spending and curbing the luxury and lifestyle creep (i.e. "it's not what you make, it's what you keep.").

But for the privileged of us who can progress on some markers of financial success - higher incomes, displacing employment-sourced income with asset-ownership income - the time exchange for a lot of our spending isn't worth it. Even just minutes sunk into making cost savings of several dollars or tens of dollars doesn't stack up. That time is either worth more in monetary terms applied somewhere else, or you start rationalising that it doesn't make sense to exchange your only limited and expiring resourse (time) with something you already have ample supply of (money).

A classic example are the retirees who have spent most of a lifetime accumulating wealth, and most of them are working class Australians who have successfully grown their ownership in property and super (above $1 mil), and are still very conscious of spending, concerning themselves with the relatively small differences in consumer prices, and aren't using a resource they have plenty of (money) to enrich the resource they have comparatively less of (time).

I see that in my family and friends around me.

I see that in myself as well. I love OzBargain and I have an engrained sense of value-based spending, but at some point a "mindset of scarcity" can hold you back.

My last Shopback BWS order didn't track, not risking it again if I can help it.

    • Did you contact shopback?

I have had a few issues with the correct amount being calculated and always had great service from the customer service.

      • +5

Yes. First time got the standard response "these are the reasons it might not have tracked" (I know all the reasons and actively avoid them, have had hundreds of successful transactions tracked with multiple cashback sites). I asked them to review and check with BWS and they said they would. Didn't get back to me with the outcome but noticed in my account it was rejected. Contacted them to query and they responded to say BWS said it was attributed to another marketing source (impossible from what I did to ensure it tracked). This is the second time this has happened in about the past 6 months and they didn't pay up last time either.

        • That is weird.
I have had over 500 transactions or so through shopback and never had a problem with them tracking it.
I have certainly had problems with the amount that was tracked and I think 10 times it has happened or so it has been resolved.

Bizarre. but I have seen a few people have similar issues as you so it does happen.

          • @perthjay85: Other retailers haven't been an issue with tracking for me but two alcohol purchases have not gone through (can't remember if the last one was BWS or not, it was them or Liquorland, was a while ago.

            • @Purley23: I just checked.
              Since March
              10 x Liquorland
              2 x BWS
              2 x First choice

All tracked and all but two tracked correct amount and shopback corrected the two incorrect ones within 5 days.

              Very Bizarre.

        • +3

          This is Shopback's modus operandi.

          • Smaller/standard cashbacks track without a problem
          • Upsized/promotional/Westpac bonus cashbacks rarely track and they make you do everything but walk through fire to get your money back.
    • +4

same here. they are just waiting for me to forget at this stage i think

      • +2

Yup. That's what they want you to do! Threaten them with Fair Trading and don't let them win.

  • +2

Shopback hasnt tracked my last 2 properly from liquorland, case gets opened, then gets closed.

  • Any recommendations?

Got the Starward Cocktail bottle from the Liquorland deal and that was great, so looking for any lesser-known clearance products that are a great deal.

Hmmmm… I had an issue on the CR app on the last BWS cashback where the sale didn't look to complete on the app, just hangs after payment. Seems to be happening now on SB app as well.

Got email confirming the order, but I bet no tracking.

Strange that it happened in CR and then on SB. Must be a BWS issue.

Will wait 24 hours to see if it does track but, like last time, I doubt it will and I'll have to call to cancel.

    • +1

BWS issue. Happened to me couple of weeks ago with CR. Went through the process of claiming it due to non-track and they fixed it. All good.

  • +1

Problem with slow + denied cashback BWS on cashrewards , v frustrating, no reason ..BWS is the problem

    • +1

It's not just BWS. It's a Shopback issue.

      • It's definitely an issue but I don't know who…

Last bws / shopback tracked but cr / bws didn't..

This shopback bws has not tracked yet

        • It's a bws issue. I've had an almost 100% track rate with shopback. Only bws failed to track and shopback were helpful in getting it added after purchase and before I collected.

          Just my personal experience.

          • @Chocobros: yeah mine still has not tracked… Looks like I wont be picking up that one…

            • @pointnlarf: So if you just dont pick it up they cancel and refund hey? I'm in same boat, nothing tracked.

              • @Iggemo: afaik….

              • +1

                @Iggemo: Think Ill cancel

              • @Iggemo: No you should call to cancel. Bws is much better than fcl/liquorland with holding product until collected so you may not see that refund unless you call and cancel.

As an aside fcl has previously just marked orders as collected despite the not being picked up and tried to keep the payment…. Pretty scummy

                • @Chocobros: first choice tracked but bws has still not tracked.

I believe strictly speaking they dont have to cancel the order unless it was not described properly etc

  • +1

BEWARE, BWS is dodgy. My last two rewards did not track, across both Cashrewards & Shopback.

    • Yea somethings not right. My last order with cashrewards didnt track, now this one!

  • Wild Turkey Rare Breed is $89.60, $67.20 after cashback making it almost as good as the previous deal.

    • How? for me it shows $112 (WA) and also it is unavailable.

      • Hmmm possibly varies by store.
My local is showing the discounted price but the next closest store with stock isn't…

    • Which store?

      • I can see it at the Rouse Hill store. I'm checking others.

      • One available at Haymarket too.

  • Looks like they have Four Pillars Bloody Shiraz Gin 700mL half price at $44.50 so would stack great with this and a case of beer.

    https://bws.com.au/product/525635/four-pillars-bloody-shiraz…

    • great deal if you can get it- showing as $83 for me

      • It's $44.5 on Amazon right now

        Edit: sold out

  • If it doesn't track - which so far it hasn't - can i just not pick it up (ordered click and collect) and it will auto cancel?

    • It won't track until the order's fulfilled I'm pretty sure so you'd have a vicious cycle I believe

  • Ordered 4.33pm but no SB tracking so far.

    • 3.15 for me with no tracking yet

    • 4.30pm. no tracking either

  • +1

No tracking for me yet, it's been hours and honestly I have a near perfect record.

I did it through the Shopback app too, so it's definitely their end.

  • Is anyone else finding that the 10% off 6 bottles of wine isn't working?
It's not applying it to the cart but is advertised on SB's BWS page.

    • Sometime it doesn't work for certain stores unfortunately, I find normally it's new stores.

I ring CS up, and complain after and they generally refund. It hasn't affected CB in the past, but last time they just sent me a GC in the amount.

  • 5 Available at BWS Umina

  • Extension tracking does not work for BWS, please clickthrough from ShopBack to ensure that your cashback is tracked.

Well shit I had activated it by the Chrome extension. But before I checked out, I clicked through too from the website. I wonder if this will track then.

Begs the question, why even have it available via the extension in the first place??

    • Look, i didn't use the extension, did everything right and it didn't track anyway FWIW so i think there are bigger issues than just that.

      • +1

        Thankfully mine did track too

  • Has anyones purchase tracked yet?

    • No.

    • no

    • No

    • No

    • No. Purchased last evening around 6pm. No tracking yet. I’ll only pick up my order once get a tracking confo else will call and cancel.

    • Not here either, been nearly 24 hours already.

  • +1

Still not tracked. Purchased through SB app

  • Not tracked yet but registered click activity so hopefully sometime today.

  • +1

BWS doesn't track the big % ones it seems. Suspicious.

  • +1

    Not tracked.

  • +3

Still yet to track, if it doesn’t come thru I’ll just cancel the order.

  • Ordered 3 bottles which showed were in stock….Just got message that have refunded me for one bottle.

  • +2

No tracking here either. I've just messaged a Shopback rep on here to see if they've got an update.

    • +1

Also messaged an hour ago, asking them to post here. No response yet…

    • Would be nice to hear something as this seems to be a systemic issue. Like another guy, i also have the visit in my click history but no dice with actual tracking.

    • My tracking came through overnight. Given everyone's wasn't tracked yet I assumed there was an issue there somewhere so good to see it's been sorted without needing to submit enquiries.

      • Tracked but amount is still calculating…

  • Still not track either, but already collected yesterday afternoon…

  • +1

    Anybody's tracked yet?

    • +1

Nothing yet. Glad it isnt just me

  • Nothing has tracked, and no one has contacted SB yet?

  • Well well well, look what finally tracked

  • yep. mine tracked too.

  • +1

Mine tracked at 1.20 am this morning finally, so took a day and a half but finally appeared. Thanks to whatever SB person chased it up if they did.

  • Tracked!

  • Tracked early this morning

  • Tracked this morning

  • +6

Hey all! Cheers for waiting here, apologies for the delay. BWS have a 2 day tracking window so they can take a short while to track from time to time depending on their volume. Having a look, it looks like the tracking has come through this morning.

If you don't receive tracking be the end of the day, do reach out via DM and I can take a closer look.

    • There was no email, it has popped up in Cashback Overview but says "Calculating".

  • Didnt track for my wife had to report missing cashback . All up in the air :(
