Yep speaking from experience, they are absolutely top notch little boxes. I have 2 currently in use.
The amount of power you get for the money is pretty remarkable IMO, even compared to 2-3 years ago.
Perfect, thanks! Now to decide which one to get out of the seemingly hundreds available. I mainly just want it to act as a Plex server for home use.
Could this support 3x Monitors (3x 1080p) if a USB to HDMI Adapter was plugged into one of the USB 3.2 ports?
No would need a displaylink adapter
Something like this? https://www.amazon.com.au/CableCreation-Adapter-Windows-Comp…
5500U or 5800H? What are peoples thoughts? 5800H seems the better unit, but is it worth the extra money?
5500u is 13191
5800h is 21247
These are points on cpulist from passmark. The 5800h is a pretty big step up! Although for the price a 5500u is still good value.Personally for $100 I'd probably do it, but if I was keeping to a budget I probably wouldn't need it.
Or Beelink SEi12 i5 1235U for $475
The i5 1235U sits between the 5500U and 5800H in terms of performance. I would just pay $489 and get the 5800H as best bang-for-buck IMO.
How about compared to this as an upgrade, worth it?

$$489.30@harpie: Yep that's the 5800H I was referring to in my comment.
if you're doing anything demanding then yes
more cores, more cache, more frequency, better igpu etcThe 5500U is a great option is you're looking for power efficiency as the U chips are apparently super frugal. I've actually had my eye on this very machine, for a small semi-mobile setup. Great price for what you're getting and even more so at this discounted price. Very tempting.
I am using intel i5-4xx which is about 10 years old. I am thinking to buy a refurbished pc or a mini pc. mini pc usually has only 1 monitor port, but I have 2 monitors. refurbished contains windows 10/11.
Go for intel i5-8000 and upwards, they are powerful enough to act as a small server.
The beelink we have, has a HDMI & Display port. We run 2 monitors on it just fine.
Good little unit
pre-installed W-11 Pro,, means I need to buy a license for it?
No its already activated out of the box.
thanks
I tried a google search but couldn't find anything really representing these for media playback.
Do these AMD cpus have any issues with media playback? Would this be a good Apple TV replacement?
This can easily handle 4K playback without issues, check out some of the Beelink SER5 reviews on Youtube.
There's been so many Beelink deals. Are they actually good quality machines? I've been tempted several times but want something that will last for years.
