I already own a QN11 from AliExpress, which is fantastic as a media server with its N100 chipset. What really stands out is the large, nearly silent fan—perfect for quiet operation.

You might wonder why I wouldn’t just buy another QN11. Well, I recently came across a new model from Trigkey. It features an internal power supply, a larger and equally quiet fan, dual NICs, a 500GB SSD (with the option for an additional M.2 drive), and 16GB of RAM—all for just $229. That’s an absolute steal!

This setup isn’t for everyone, but if you’re after silent performance, this gets you 99% of the way there.

  • Worth noting the additional M.2 slot is PCIE x1, as opposed to the x4 of the main slot.

Update. Digging a little deeper it’s actually a M.2 SATA slot.

Update 2. Ignore above update. The x4 slot is SATA compatible.

I’m confused. Can’t you get an N150 for that sort of money?

I’m half tempted to buy one of these and plug a fat HDD in as a plex server.

        100% incorrect!!

There are some reddit users over on r/minipcs who have used NVME to SATA splitters like this to create mini pcs capable of very large libraries using multiple 3.5in HDDs.

      • What the best way to power the HDD in this type of setup

      • That looks awesome and insane! I really want to try this and really don't need to. The reviews for those type of NVME/SATA adapters look mixed, maybe inadequate built in cooling? I wonder if an SAS breakout board would be more stable? Breakout the 4 Sata that way instead? Crazy stuff

        • Yea im thinking of usb external case to add so I can run frigate and store recordings. But this an excellent option too. Only thing is you still need to power these 3.5" hdd

IMO the built-in PSU is not a good thing, most people are better off with an external brick or USB-C power source (when supported) as they're easier and cheaper to replace if something goes wrong.

The bigger, lower RPM fan is interesting. I run 2 x N100s and found them to be very quiet in general so not sure of the value add with the bigger fan.

I reckon N150s will be at this price point in the next few months as OEMs clear stock of N100. You can already get a barebone N150 under AUD 200 on Aliexpress.

N150's are a weird varient. Slower in all benchmarks when compared to N100

      • Intel’s own website states N150 has faster CPU and GPU clock speeds, while all other specifications are identical.

        Source: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/compare.htm…

N150 is the same fab as N100 but just with a higher clock.

Where are you finding the slower benchmarks? Are they like for like comparisons e.g. LPDDR5 etc?

OP the deal isn't as good as you're making out

    • Genuine question from me (so don’t take it the wrong way). As a complete novice when it comes to this stuff can you tell me why it’s not that good a deal? I’m assuming that a SOYO from aliexpress would be enough for me as a small Plex PC. This isn’t worth the extra?

  • What are the most popular applications for these mini PCs?

I am intrigued but need to better understand the potential goals. Plex server, home assistant?

If one uses it as a Plex server, simply add a big HD? SSD?

Since I am not very savvy: What is the energy use of these mini PCs in case they run 24/7, say, compared to a cheap NAS?

Is there such thing as a backup battery for these for power cuts (if Home assistant)?

Someone mentioned Soyo, so a quick look at AE shows 6/128 GB Soyos for half price of this. Would they be so much worse?

    Thank you.

Completely different chipset - significantly slower.

    • i use mine to run game servers (valheim, enshrouded, 7 days to die) as well as run jellyfin as a media server, it has no problem doing both simultaneously. different model but sams specs- n100, 16gb ram, 500gb nvme

    • I use mine as a Plex Server - since I usually run AMD CPUs in my servers. Intel QuickSync helps.

I bought n100 last year this time as ha on vm through asustor had intermittent issues. I copied over the virtual HD into the box and it's been happy days ever since.

  • I can't tell if this has a USB-C port - even if it does, assume it can't be powered from it?
