Kaiser Baas Personal Media Player RRP $169 at $58 Delivered

140

Hi,
First post here and i know this is a repeat but very attractive due to the price. I was recently looking for a portable media player mainly for car (2 Year old son). I almost planned to buy it at $99 earlier this year but felt it was expensive and guess what… it is on sale for $49 + $9 Delivery by JB Hi-Fi. A bit of a shame that the pickup is not available but still good buy at this price if you are looking for a decent media player (4GB Internal Storage).

Overview

Perfect for ‘on the go’ with its sleek, ultra slim, portable design and a rechargeable Li-ion battery, take your media files with you and watch them on the in-built 8 inch HD LCD screen. Consisting of a massive 4GB on-board memory, it has the capability to decode and playback quality video footage up to 1080P.

The unit supports a large variety of audio and video formats such as Divx, MKV, MP3, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264 and FLAC files. Also supported are a range of picture formats such as JPG, BMP and PNG and includes an integrated slideshow functionality with music. Ebooks in text format are also supported.

Your Kaiser Baas Personal Media Player contains a video output which enables you to play your media files on the TV. Multiple storage mediums such as SD cards, USB memory sticks and USB hard drives are handily interchangeable with the unit to extend its capacity.

always wondered if an android hack job was doable on these.

    I rememberer mid 90's a 32cm TV cost $250

I purchased this a while back.
It's rubbish. I have generally low expectations which were not met by this product.

    Does it play dvds?

Why not just buy an Ainol Elf II tablet for a bit more? It can do a whole lot more than just watch videos…not to mention Youtube access.

Thing is, you can't find 720p display for $60.

      • +1

I know. But the main point is feature and utility. This media player is a uni-tasking device. It won't get a lot of use — maybe you'll take it with you on a long car trip, but a tablet will get a heck of a lot more use in comparison.

$58 — only does one thing. Plays video, and views images/ebooks. That's it.

$109 Ainol— plays videos, streams videos, browses the web, plays games, takes handwritten notes, records videos, and a lot more.

The price difference mentioned above is almost 50%…

        • +1

… and the functionality difference is immeasurable.

        • +1

If the main point is to just watch video and view pictures, then the $109 Ainol still lose because of the 720p resolution Kaiser has. For $109 you can get two of these and entertain two little ones with 720p display. So really it much depends on what you need it for.

    you lost me there.

I bought this last time and kinda regret it. I mean, for the money the device does what it claims surprisingly well. The screen is decent quality… but nowadays it just seems like it is not all that useful

I was recently looking for a portable media player mainly for car (2 Year old son).

When I was a kid, about all we had on long drives was a look-out-the-window player. If we were really lucky, my parents would chuck a pork knuckle into the back seat for us to fight over who was gonna gnaw on it first - but I think that was more for the entertainment of my oldies than to keep us kids amused.

the resolution on those "look-out-the-window" players is awesome. refreshrate is massive.

      • +3

Not to mention it's 3d as well, without glasses

I bought this a month ago and never regret though. I have an ipad 16 gb, galaxy tab 7.7 and this. Not sure your ipad or tablets have problems reading NTFS formatted memory cards but I use this for playing large video files which cannot fit into a FAT32 formatted card that is the fotmat accepted by my galaxy tab 7.7. If you are looking for a media player and plan to get a cheap SD card for on the go video or bedroom TV 720p play back this is it. If you think $58 is too expensive maybe you still can wait for another price drop.

Does this supply power to a portable hdd?

  • This seems to be a mess of a product as per an older post

I am surprised so many people are comparing it with a Tablet… It doesnt make sense as tablets and media players are 2 different categories. Why would you compare an Ipad with a laptop? Only because of the same price? Nobody would buy tablets then as laptops are so cheap anyway and you can do alot more?
Please consider it as a media player and ONLY compare it with other media players. It has all the required features - Accepts external storage devices such as USB etc. also plays almost all formats, HD screen which i believe is the most important feature which no1 has mentioned (its a Media player) and very portable. And well if someone wanted to buy an android to do more, they should look for androids in the market. I wanted a simple media player, therefore i believe this is the best deal for simple and functional MEDIA PLAYER at this time.

There also needs to be emphasis on the fact that this has an 8 inch screen. There are cheapish 8 inch android tabs about but specs-wise they're lousy, including screen resolution. Like wtfnodeal I have a GT 7.7 and believe me the difference that point seven of inch makes over a 7 inch tab (like the Elf) is amazing.

  • I am bought it at 99 and I reckon its very underrated. The screen is nice and it does MLB.
I just hate how kiaser baas brought no exTernal usb type battery support and a car seat mount.
    Poorly marketed product.
