dodgy marketing, selected states but send it out to everyone, also looks like you need to spend $120 to get $10

      • +3

The way in which the terms are written make it sound like spending $120 in one transaction would only result in you earning $5 credit no credit. You would need to have 2x $60+ transactions to get the full $10 credit.

I am just going to purchase 2x $60 WISH gift cards across two separate transactions.

        • Do they all sell WISH GC or is it only certain stores?

          • +1

@foxes28: I am not entirely sure what the situation is these days.

All the EG Ampol service stations I have been to recently all sold WISH gift cards.

Exactly, what an insult from AmEx, will chat to complain, this is BS.

        • Generally speaking, there's an incentive team (or something along those lines), they decide who gets what offer, if you didn't get an offer or missed it, no matter how much you complain it's unlikely to make any difference.

I guess it is because they are giving away something extra, they didn't do anything wrong, so feedback doesn't become a complaint and therefore no further follow up.

      • Card holder could be travelling, they won't know. So they can't target by card holder address.

    • +2

Thanks for pointing out, I didn't realise it isn't even in Victoria! pity its so restrictive on location.

    • +2

Yep, got screwed over in the last Ampol deal where they excluded Ampol EG locations which were previously included.

      • The last time EG Ampol service stations were last included in an Ampol cashback deal for AMEX was in 2020.

Ampol cashback offers through AMEX starting excluding EG Ampol - referred to as Caltex Woolworths - in early 2021.

    • First dot point says in app or in person. Second dot point suggests in app only? Confused.

      • That was directly copied from the AMEX offer. It is confused.

I would say this offer is in-app and in-store.

        • Sorry. Didn't mean you were being confusing. I just meant AMEX don't write their TS and Cs clearly. I'll interpret the second dot point as meaning - "If you choose to pay in-app, then…".

  • +1

Maybe 2*$10 next time if ignore it.

  • +1

    Cheers!
Got it on my main QFF Discovery + 4 supps but didn't show up on my Velocity escape.

  • so total
    120 spend for $10

  • 1st time with EG

  • The only recent AMEX deal targeted to me is not redeemable in VIC. Lucky me

finally got something on my useless american express - seriously this company stinks now

    • +4

Yeah, put a fork in them. Amex are done.

The devaluing of points is the final straw.

Annual fee needs to be halved to be competitively valued.

So mine is $20 cashback in total?
    Or spend 2x $60↑ get 1x $10?
Lol why they do this same offer different rule?

  • Is there a separate EG app? Or are they talking about Ampol app?

I prefer in app payment to avoid going in, and also for the email receipt. But Ampol app never worked at EG locations, so I just stopped going to EG.

If they are not Ampol, just get rid of the Ampol signage.

In comparison, BP app is better, you activated the pump in app first, so you know app payment is accepted. In some locations, it also works during off hours.

Ampol app is pay after, caught out a few times when app payment was not accepted.

    • The Ampol app only works at Ampol service stations accepting Ampol FuelPay. No Ampol franchisee accepts Ampol FuelPay (and that includes EG). If you want to see a map of Ampol service stations accepting Ampol FuelPay, please use the Ampol store locator (and I have set the FuelPay filter for you in that link).

The app referenced in this deal is the EG Club app. There is a Pay At Pump feature on the app where you can pay from your vehicle (and redeem a digital Woolworths fuel discount voucher and an EG Club app discount, where available).

EG Ampol is an Ampol franchisee, which is the reason you see Ampol signage at their service stations. If you think EG Ampol should remove their Ampol signage, you should be consistent and have Ampol signage removed from the other ~700 Ampol service stations operated by other Ampol franchisees.

      • Okay, thanks for explanation, had no idea EG is a franchise of Ampol.

It's quite confusing, some Ampol servos are regular Ampol, then there's the EG Ampol, and Woolworths Metrol Ampol.

Ordinarily it doesn't matter if they offer consistent services, just a bit of a rant from far you see a big Ampol sign, then come closer it's not what it is.

Anyway will stick with regular and Woolworths Ampol. But will take up this offer to to purchase 2 GCs as suggested.

        • +3

Ampol-owned outlets (owned by Ampol Retail Pty Ltd) would typically be branded/trading as "Ampol Foodary" or "Ampol Woolworths MetroGo". They would typically have Foodary or Woolworths MetroGo on the pylon (price board) and above the convenience store entrance.

EG Ampol is the largest of the franchisees and are the operator of the old 'Woolworths Caltex' network which they acquired in 2018 and took over in 2019. They would also have a big 'EG' sign on the pylon (with a smaller Ampol logo) with EG branding on the shop entrance.

Most other (non-EG) Ampol franchisees typically just have Ampol (Suburb name) above the convenience store entrance. But some franchisees may also use their own store branding (i.e Ampol Pearl Energy (Suburb name), or Foodworks Ampol.

The only common loyalty scheme that EG and Ampol Retail Pty Ltd outlets share is the WW Everyday Rewards card for points. However, WW fuel discounts are a little complicated with all 540+ EG outlets (and over 200 Ampol-owned Foodary or MetroGo outlets) accepting the 4c Woolworths discount.

  • I have a 5c voucher in EG app - can i combine this with the 4c everyday rewards one?

    • Yes.

You can also stack both fuel discounts with the instore spend offer too (spend $5 on eligible items sold in the convenience store, save 4c/L on fuel).

      • +1

That’s great - I’m usually a Cole’s express filler and been stacking away - but will try EG for the next couple of tanks

  • Not targeted. Perhaps because I paid with Amex recently - the EG servo's system refused my Wish GC.

  • Interesting. I have 2 AMEX cards and each got a slightly different offer:

Card 1: "Save the offer to your eligible Card and spend $60 or more, in one transaction, in-app or in-person only at participating EG Fuel locations by 31/08/2023 to receive a $5 credit, up to maximum of 2 times. "

Card 1 T&C includes: "Offer is limited to a maximum of $10 credit per Card and $5 credit per eligible transaction."

Card 2: "Save the offer to your eligible Card and spend $60 or more, in one transaction, 2 times, in-app or in-person only at participating EG Fuel locations by 31/08/2023 to receive one $10 credit. Limited to the first 30,000 Cards to save the offer. Exclusions apply."

Card 2 T&C includes: "Offer only valid where $60 or more has been charged to your Card two times to receive one $10 credit."

The offer on Card 1 is slightly better because I'll get $5 each time, rather than having to spend twice before getting $10.

Have people had any luck with purchasing Wish gift cards in store? I was unable to, error came up on the terminal. I think the error was "invalid card number".

    • +1

Been to a couple of EGs, no sight of Wish GC. There are others, like Amazon, Ultimate, Apple.

      • Do they sell like specific denomination GC only or variables?

        • +1

This particular location has Apple and Play Store variable loads, others are fixed.

Best to check your local stores, stock appears to be inconsistent.

    • Got 4X$60 WISH gift cards by two Amex cards. Job done.

      • Are they at the counter or a separate display along with prepaid SIM cards?

        • +1

It depends on the EG Ampol you go to.

          • For the EG Ampol I visited earlier today, the WISH gift cards were part of a large display of prepaid SIM cards and gift cards next to the checkouts. It took me a few seconds to realise the WISH gift card rack was in a corner of the gift card display.

          • At some other EG Ampols I have been to in the past, I spotted WISH gift cards and other gift cards on a display behind the counters, which means a staff member would need to grab one for you.

          • At some other EG Ampols I have also been to in the past, I spotted WISH gift cards and other gift cards on a small rack near the entrance.

          • +2

@WookieMonster: yeah also worked for me yesterday.
All gift cards are behind counter, asked for $120 wish gc, and did 2x $60 split payments. easy done.

    • I had no issues using my AMEX to purchase a WISH gift card at an EG Ampol earlier today.

Invalid Card Number sounds like an issue where the EFTPOS terminal did not correctly read the card number on your card. Were you by chance using an AMEX stored on a mobile wallet (e.g. Apple Pay)? I find that EFTPOS terminals can sometimes struggle to process payment from a card stored on a mobile wallet.

      • +1

I was indeed using an AmEx stored on a mobile wallet. I'll need to try the same store but with the physical card next time. Thanks WM.
