Samsung Galaxy S22 128GB $849 Posted (Eligible for $200 Trade-in Bonus, Subscription Offer, 10% off Loyalty Offer) @ Samsung

353

I've been sniffing around phone deals for a few months now looking for something that fit my needs (good price, small form factor, decent camera… decent battery… well can't have it all sadly!) and finally settled on this deal.

  • Galaxy S22 128GB $849
  • $200 bonus if you trade-in an eligible product (expires 25 July) + trade value (weirdly the trade in value of an S10E actually increased from $25 to $50 from the last time I ran the trade up a couple of months ago)
  • $50 voucher for subscribing to newsletter
  • 10% off loyalty voucher if you own a qualifying Samsung product and ask for a loyalty offer

Total was $489, and I think this is a good deal for that price.

The trick here is if you get a loyalty voucher be sure to apply it BEFORE the $50 off subscription voucher or they won't stack properly. I had to fiddle around with this but it ultimately worked so huzzah.

  • Fold 4 still out of stock.

  • How do you get the 10% loyalty voucher?

And can you still just not send in a trade in device (and be charged the difference), but still keep the bonus? Or have they closed that loophole now? All the old Samsung devices I have, have a crack in the screen somewhere.

"10% off Loyalty Code by emailing [email protected]. Alternatively call 1300 362 603, select option 9 on first screen, then option 4 on second screen, and explain to the rep that you want the loyalty discount. The loyalty voucher is 10% off the price after trade-in discounts and before the $50 newsletter."

      • Thanks for the detail! Going by feedback I think I might pay a bit more for the S23 but I'll be using these coupons and Westpac rewards.

  • Hmm….did Samsung fix issues with s22?

  • +11

S22 is the worst phone in terms of battery life. Better get S23 from below deals if you have access to Samsung Education store or Westpac rewards:

    • Is it worth an extra $250 for better battery and 1 gen newer phone? Maybe, but that's a big difference at this price.

      • +1

I would say yes. I used the S22 for less than 8 months before going to the iPhone 14 Pro and back to S23. No regrets going back to the S23 as the battery life issue has been fixed and I enjoy One UI and Android features more then iOS.

For $250 you're basically paying for a TSMC manufatured SoC rather than a Samsung Foundry one and it shows practically in battery life and daily performance.

        • My wife is upgrading from an S10E that lasts maybe 2 hours of use and is pretty glitchy on top of that, so I'm sure she'll be fine with very casual usage. Well, hopefully!

          • @Poimandres: I had the S10e too which I unfortunately had to switch since I dropped it! It was my favorite phone for a long time due to its size and side fingerprint. I used to switch phones every 6-12 months, I think this S23 can last me 3+ more years before I can be enticed by newer tech, so I usually calculate a phones value based on how long I would use it for. Eg. $1014/4 Years = $253 per year. The S22 would be $849/2=$424 per year.

Ofc if you can use a phone with only 3 hours screen on time for 4 years than sure it is better value, but personally that is worse than the S10 line battery life (SD variant) which is ridiculous.

@daniesaurs: S10E was definitely a banger phone. Only ended up costing $400 using a port in deal on a $30 plan which was excellent. I'd love to wait for a cheaper S23 deal but my wife was beginning to lose patience haha. We'll just have to see how this phone goes.

              • @Poimandres: S10e gang, gonna miss the SD card and headphone jack when I get a new phone

          • @Poimandres: i got s10e too and looking to upgrade to S23

      • Absolutely, I had to switch from an S22 to an S23+ as it gets hot and would die like clockwork during my afternoon commute. The S23 would be amazing over an S22 - the biggest difference is the chip is made by TSMC, not Samsung, meaning it's a multi-generational efficiency leap, and that extra performance is so noticeable in every task. And if you go for 256GB storage, it's double the speed (uses the new UFS 4.0 standard).

S23 was only $749 a few months ago

      and this is less

      • +1

The S23 is actually a big upgrade from the S22 and is definitely worth the extra $250.

        • Why big upgrade?

according to this is is just a minor upgrade

          https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/not-everyone-should-upgrade…

"But the S23 has a larger battery, a new processor and slightly updated camera algorithms that improve the way photos are processed. While these changes are appreciated, the Galaxy S23 is generally a minor improvement over the Galaxy S22"

          • +1

@pinkybrain: The chip manufacturer change from Samsung to TSMC is the big one, it significantly increases the phones battery life. It just depends if you value good battery life, if you dont then feel free to pick up the S22…

            • @brifog: you talking about Exynos 2200?

Wasn't australia getting the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip?

              • @pinkybrain: Yes, we got the Gen 1 it was made by Samsung foundries, making it well-known for being crap. They don't know how to make efficient chips. It is so worth only buying TSMC-made Snapdragon chips.

                • @Techie4066: thought samsung only made Exynos..

                  in terms of efficient chips
isn't that more to do with design than being made?

As I understand it, Samsung designed and manufacture Exynos chip are inefficient because designed is inefficient
                  but with making,
don't they just use the design of Snapdragon and just make it based on the design?
so any inefficient battery was due to the design of Snapdragon 8 gen1 vs gen 2.

                  • @pinkybrain: Watch the video.

                    • -1

                      @Techie4066: what video?

also what about answering my question?

                      snapdragon design the chip
and just send samsung the chip design/die cast/master or whatever
then samsung just makes it like it is designed on the wafer

so isn't due to the gen 1 design being inefficient compared to gen 2?

Dude I don't know if people are going to appreciate your work enough but I do. Great work on finding all orders and the stack order

  • +1

Nice work OP, very tempted as the S10+ is getting long in the tooth but screen size must move forward, not backward, upward, not forward and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom.

  • +4

This is a terrible deal only because the S22 has subpar battery life due to the chip being manufactured by Samsung, not TSMC. It has horrible standby drain and feels much more laggier than the S23 series.

Not worth it when we've seen the S23 base go on sale for lower.

    No deal.

    • This. All of this. The S23 is the best compact flagship Samsung has ever made imo.

    • I've been warning for ages, vast majority of ozbargainers don't care. All they see is "it's only 1 generation behind" and ignore all the details.

    • +2

Base S23 has never approached $500. This is only a deal with trade in and added bonuses.

      • It was $749 outright earlier in the year (Amazon) and at the start of the month with a bonus Watch5. They were clearly much better deals when you can keep whatever phone you're trading in and sell it yourself.

I got the S22 down to around $600 on release last year through a JB trade-in promotion after selling the bonus earbuds. This is a terrible deal, sorry, and so I'll have to neg.

        • $749 outright for the 23 was an amazing deal. Sadly hasn't been matched since.

The JB deal I'm less enthused about after the headache of switching phone providers previously for other deals, and would need to abandon a legacy mobile plan with perks that aren't matched by off the shelf plans.

I know the deal isn’t great for everyone, but I couldn't find anything better for sub $500 at the moment (or indeed for the past several months)

          • @Poimandres: You did not need to port your number for that JB plan deal, you could get a new number and then dispose of it. I did, and am now just awaiting the bonus Watch5.

  • Not a good deal, if your check the base s series historically, it should be around 600ish with the vouchers combo. The s22 ultra last month is even cheaper than this

    • +3

S22 Ultra has never been $500 to my knowledge, and I've been watching the Education, Westpac and standard store. Also this is for my wife, and she wanted something with a small form factor which narrows options considerably.

  • How long do they take to deliver

  • Heard some horror stories….

  • thanks for the post, mine came to $533 with a $1 phone trade in.
was a little tricky getting the different vouchers to work for some reason (even following the voucher order).
i logged out and in and opened and closed the browser windows a few times and it finally allowed me to stack all vouchers.

  • Well the phone arrived quickly and my wife loves it. Unless it takes a sharp down turn, it all seems very solid so far (including battery life issues being overblown)
