I was wondering why the description looked familiar haha

A note to the OP: please make sure the terms in the deal description match what is in the posters. For example, the gift card purchase limits in the description is different to what is printed on the instore posters.

    More general tips:

    • You can redeem a maximum of 8 Apple gift cards in a transaction on the various Apple Online Stores or via 133 MAC. A workaround is to add them to your Apple Account Associated Balance, then use that in conjunction with up to 8 Apple gift cards.

    • You can redeem a maximum of 20 Apple gift cards at a physical Apple Store.

    • You can no longer consolidate multiple Apple gift cards into one Apple gift card.

I was wondering why the description looked familiar haha

I definitely got that sense of deja vu. Anyway, they do say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Probably why nobody bothers to steal my shit

Who TF negged you? You're the most knowledgable here when it comes to GC's, sheesh… tough crowd.

      • +7

If you think everyone on this website likes me, you are mistaken.

I may be one of the more knowledgable and talkative folks here when it comes to gift cards, but those two traits are not to everyone’s liking (particularly the latter). Spreading knowledge here is a double-edged sword, as it means that more people are educated about how gift cards work and their quirks, but that can include tips and tricks that retailers and/or gift card issuers may not like (e.g. loopholes, inception tricks).

I am comfortable with the fact that I cannot make everyone like me. I mean, if I tried to do that, no one would like me.

        • +3

but that can include tips and tricks that retailers and/or gift card issuers may not like

Ahh, yes… I didn't think to take those people into account - valid point. Well I reckon the vast majority here, like myself, appreciate you and your knowledge in the area. Subject matter experts are few and far between.

    • Also some services that you cannot pay with gift cards or account balance online can be paid with gift card in-store (must be in physical form), like Apple Care+.

  • +4

Good for paying those ATO bills.

    • How?

      • +1

Check your spam messages for any outstanding tax bills, they accept apple gift cards. Seems totally legit.

      • They'll call you.

  • +7

Pro tip: If you purchased something online with various payment types, later on you returned it at Retail Store, the maximum amount that store staff can put into one (and only one is allowed) gift card is $3000.

    • And the rest will be refunded to any of the original payment types?

      • +1

Yes, $3000 gift card can be given to you on spot and the rest goes to “original online vendor”.

  • great

This 10% off apple gift cards deal is also still live: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/787427

    • Better per dollar value… 10% discount vs effective 9% through flybuys

  • Can I use apple gift cards to pay for a battery replacement at the Apple Store?

    • +2

Yes but take the card. Do NOT redeem it into you online balance. Instore is card/code only.

  • +12

Perfect timing. I got a call from microsoft advising that my computer got hacked and I need to pay $2K in apple gift cards to unlock the hard drive.

    • +2

Hope you’re joking! Totally a scam

      • +4

Absolutely. I’m almost positive that bitcoin is the only form of legitimate payment for unlocking hard drives

      • +1

Nothing, and I mean nothing gets passed you. :)

    • 2016 called. They want their still very lame joke back.

      • -3

Perhaps it started in 2016… yet only 2 weeks ago I got that call.

    • You joke, but this is what can make it so hard to actually BUY these cards at WW in my experience.

So many times I've taken my 4x$500 cards to the register and they have to call the on-duty manager to authorise… and the I've had it outright refused to sell by those managers. quote "I've been caught with scam before and I'm not authorising this sale".. Whcih apparently the duty-managers have discretion to do.

Say I want to purchase an iPhone 15 later in the year (ideally on launch so would purchase online), am I better to keep these in physical form or redeem them onto my apple account balance?

    • +1

Literally doesn't matter either way. I'd keep them in physical form until the day before just so that they don't get used for my iCloud subscription. You may want to redeem them just to make sure you don't lose them somewhere though!

      • +1

Don’t you just love that feeling of pure terror when the Apple Online Store goes down ahead of a new product launch, and you haven’t yet redeemed your codes…

    • +2

You may as well just load them up so your account is ready to go on launch day. I've got nearly $4k sitting in my Apple account waiting for the new iPhone and iPad. Personally, I prefer knowing well in advance that I won't have any redemption issues on launch day.

  • 15% or bust

    • +2

Actually, it's more like 20% or bust. But those days are long gone. 10% is more or less the new normal now, so it'll be difficult getting much more than that for awhile to come I reckon.

      • Agree with you

  • Gift card + AOC pricing is the best for M2/1tb/16gb air right now?
Been 👀 for a while and can't seem to find better

  • Waiting to get an iPhone 14 Pro. Hope to see a deal for that come through sometime soon.

  • +1

Does anyone know if Apple gift cards can be used to pay for AppleCare+? Managed to swap the 15% off Ultimate gift cards for Apple gift cards at JB, thankfully I found those in $100 denominations, so I got an M2 Air 16/512 with the 10-core GPU for $1800. The JB staff member asked me directly "are you on Ozbargain?", asked for me to hand over the cards, and off she went putting through approximately 20 of them.

It was pretty painful standing there for like 15 minutes while she did it, but again, ended up saving 15% off my new M2, rather than the 10% current deal (either this or the deal from last week which is still running, 10% off variable load Apple gift cards). The person serving at JB one time she had someone redeem 40 gift cards… my receipt is like 2 meters long lol.

Tip for anyone thinking of doing that in the future - they really appreciated me revealing the PIN prior to going to the store, and they said they were glad that I went at a quiet time (first thing on a business day). Their gift card terms and conditions state you are allowed to use gift cards to purchase Apple gift cards at JB, but I think some staff members refuse to do it, just to get out of the painful process of processing so many.

Anyway, I now have to purchase AppleCare+, which I want to do, because I often drop things and I've tipped a glass of beer onto one of my old Macs, no issue with getting the repair done for around $400, rather than god knows how much. But yeah, does anyone know if you can use the gift cards to pay for AppleCare+?

    • Yes, you can purchase AppleCare+ using gift cards in store (for the 2yr plan). They will do a quick check of your laptop and you can give them the Gift cards for payment. DO NOT redeem it into your apple account as they cannot accept the balance in your account in store.

  • Just a word of caution to the others as I was dumb enough to allow the below to happen: make sure you pay in one transaction if purchasing more than $2000 of variable cards!

I went to buy $3500 worth of cards and the lady goes "I will have to split into multiple transactions otherwise the manager has to approve and he's not here". I went with it when suddenly after transaction 2 out of 3 the day limit popped in my mind! I stopped the whole thing and asked for the manager to get involved.

The lady apologised saying that she had done the same for other similar past offers and she did not know about the limit, so I am not the only one.

I left all there and I am waiting for the manager to call me back (still not around). I am not letting go of $350.

      A couple of things.

Each Woolworths staff member operating a checkout (including self-service checkouts) has a different limit assigned to them that is enforced by the checkouts. From my experience:

      • One very junior staff member was unable to approve a gift card purchase of $500. They had to get their supervisor to approve it on behalf of them.

      • Most regular staff seem to be able to approve a gift card purchase of up to $1000.

      • More senior staff seem to be able to approve a gift card purchase of up to $2000.

      • Managers (including duty managers) seem to have no approval limits.

Having said that, different stores may apply different purchase limits, which are separate to any limits coded into checkouts, and this would probably be dictated by store management. For example, I was told at one Woolworths store (during a 30x points deals for Apple gift cards) that the purchase limit for Apple gift cards was $300 per customer per day.

The reason I point this out is that a $3500 gift card purchase at Woolworths will always trigger the checkouts to require approval from the manager on duty, so it is not as though the staff member you dealt with was trying to make things more difficult for you.

You are not the only situation who has been told to split up a gift card purchase across multiple transactions for these kinds of gift card deals. If you contact Everyday Rewards (and mention something about how the staff member assured you would get the full bonus points), they should be nice enough to manually credit you your missing points. Here is an example of this.

      • +1

Oh! Thank you for this :) and yes they called me just then saying they would just make sure I get the points.

    • What's the daily limit? I thought it was 10 cards per day, or is it 10 days but only 1 transaction?

  • +1

I purchased $2300 worth of Apple gift cards from woolies this morning, manager needed to authorise, Woolworths points appeared in my account straight away and auto converted to Qantas frequent flyer points within 15min. Easy peasy.

    • Did all the cards work?

      • yup

  • Got $1600 worth. Attendant had to split into two transactions. Got bonus points for the first transaction but 0 points for the second. Messaged rewards support who were able to add on the points manually for the second transaction :)
