  • OP thoughts on this vs Denon AVR-X1700H ?

    • I've seen it for ~$900 as well and hear it's nice.

    • +5

X is a tier higher than S in the range.
There's minor differences between the two models. X has better room correction.

    • -1

AVR-S970H is better in the majority of areas.

      • +5

AVR-S970H is better in the majority of areas.

Your link does not confirm your statement. Overall there is very little difference between the 2 units - most obvious differences is 80w vs 90w and more composite video input/outputs on the X1700

  • Reason for the large discount? Any amplifiers for sale? Need to power set of Paradigm Studio 100's and a centre

    • +4

They're EOL. The current version would be the X2800H

    • Damn those speakers cost more than my entire lounge room electronics set up, impressive

      • They've been sitting there for years unused. lol. Currently using a shitty soundbar and never got a chance to set it up

        • A decent amp and 5.1 (or more) speakers is so damn nice for home theatre. Good luck!

      • You get what you pay for. Ive recently got a Yamaha RX485 for the Bluetooth with a pair of ELAC B6.2's. Sounds great.

        • +3

You might get better materials, workmanship or aesthetics, but the value curve gets exponentially worse above $1000 when it comes to sound - you have to pay a lot more to get marginally better outcomes.

    • But for real, it looks like the Paradigm Studio 100 front speakers handle up to 230w whereas this amp is only able to manage "Discrete high-current amplifiers on all channels deliver up to **90W **per channel (at 8 ohms"

So you're leaving a lot of the speaker unused

        • +2

Yeah you're not missing anything crazy by not having a more powerful amp. The analogy would be that you're reducing the top speed that a car can drive (even though you wouldn't likely ever approach that volume anyway)

    • I have the studio 60s with a 590 centre and an ultracube12 sub. Upgraded my old Yamaha base series which was about 12 years old to a Yamaha A4A , much better. I would spend extra and get something similar.

      • My current setup is Paradigm Studio 80 front and a JBL Center wired to a Yamaha RX-V1065 Receiver (105W RMS into 8 ohms). Would it be a downgrade if I get this Denon?

        • +1

1065 is quite old but was a few steps up from my old Yamaha. The 1065 was quite good at the time so it probably is missing a lot of the newer features like atmos ? This Denon is only rated at 90w at 8 ohms. So in terms of power less, and probably doesn’t have the headroom of the Yamaha. You would be trading more features for less power. It would be a step down from an equivalent Yamaha today. You would have to get the A4A Yamaha or probably the Denon avc x 3800h

  • +5

Someone should tell Denon's tech team to update their APP.

    • +1

3rd party apps are far better (for what I need to be accessed anyway!)

    • +2

Yep! they offer you only HEOS which feels like stepping back in time whenever I listen to music, plus the interface on the TV appears to be rended in 640x480.. And as of 2 weeks ago for whatever reason you aren't able to access your Tidal playlists anymore (throws up an error) which they say "the techs are working on" but still after 2 weeks nothing has changed. Don't get me wrong, I love the sound from my Denon unit but their software is absolute garbage.

      • +4

The WiiM streamer's interface is leagues better. The app is rock solid.

        • +1

I actually checked it out yesterday online but unfortunately it doesn't quite tick all the boxes as ideally I'd like aptX bluetooth streaming as well as Tidal Connect and so far the Ifi Blue v2 is the only thing I've seen capable of that but it keeps going up in price! I was going to buy it at $199 but missed out, then it went to $269 and now $299. Hopefully it's reached the ceiling and it'll start to come back down again haha

So far I've tried BT streaming direct to the TV but that's only AAC like the Denon which makes the tweeters sound like they oscillate (not sure if there's a technical audio terms for this), Chromecast is better but doesn't stream master quality and the interface is quite painful (had to sideload it so it's not optimised for Chromecast), PC streaming was good but bothersome to change songs as you'd have to turn the TV back on each time.. so, despite all its flaws, HEOS wins.. for now.

Hey OP, could you help me with this.

I have Sonos system (Arc + Sub + One Sl pair) which I have connected to TV eARC.

My house has four ceiling speakers which I would like to connect as well. Could this work with Sonos and 4 ceiling speakers?

Looking at Sonos site, they have mentioned that Denon supports Sonos. But not sure if this supports.

    Thanks

    • +3

The only way you can make the ceiling speakers talk to the Sonos Arc is to buy a Sonos AMP. But this will only do two speakers at a time, or I guess you could send the same signal to two speakers.

      • Will explore that. Cheers.

  • +2

My trusty old Yamaha RX-V775 AVR has just carked it. Had it connected to our trusty YAMAHA NSP210 5.1 speaker system. Would anyone know if this AVR would be a good replacement?

    • +5

Denon has a warmer sound than Yamaha amps. If that suits you, yeah this will do everything you need it to.

Edit: Down vote me for how I found the amp? And no reason? Sweet mate, please respond to the poster with your 2 cents for their info though to be helpful.

      • +2

Thanks so much mate, really appreciate your feedback.

    • +3

Denon AVR's are fantastic, I've had my AVR-789 for about 15 years now and its never given me any trouble

  • +11

    Lord give me strength

  • +1

Is the pass through VRR capable, I can’t tell

    • +1

Yes. It didn't work well for a while but they updated the firmware which fixed it.

  • What happened to high output multi channel receivers? Pioneer used to make some pretty powerful ones, now everything seems to be 80 90 or maybe 110w.

    • +7

      No one needed them.

    • +1

I fix up vintage hifi gear for fun, and I have 15w amps that can play massive 1970s speakers so loudly that you can't be in the room with them. If the numbers are "real" power (not bullshit "peak" numbers) then 110w would kill you with sound waves.

      • If you r located in Melb, can you fix my broken Paradigm PS1200 Sub?

  • +1

OP let us know if you have any DIRAC specials

  • +1

Thank you OP. 6 Sold already…..

    • Now 24 sold… nice

  • Shame I need a 9 channel, my current one doesnt support 8k or 60FPS HDR 4k. But this is a great price!

  • Solid unit.

  • Do you then need to buy the speakers after? Is that how it works?

  • good deal great unit, modern features and functionalities with good construction, components and sound quality

  • +1

Never knew this is Made in Vietnam.

  • Anyone know if this will be good enough for Klipsch RP 8000F mk2 ? They’re 150 watt RMS @8 ohm

My first passive speakers so I’m still quite ignorant to how this all works

    • The RP8000 is a very efficient speaker, they don't need a lot of mumbo to drive them. That being said they are a speaker that deserves a quality amp to drive them - not this. Look at an Onkyo RZ50/70

  • OOS?

  • +1

They’ve pulled their entire eBay store down. Very strange.

    • Weird, I almost bought last night. Hopefully everyone that ordered gets their order.

    • This is Very concerning! 30 Sold gives OP $30,000 in one day. Plus 23 sales of the S760H just a few days ago at $783… that's $48K

    • Very early this morning I saw it at 30 sold and with more than 10 in stock in the listing. Indeed very strange.

    • +2

Update: All good. I reached out to Sound United over the phone this morning. Rest assured items are in stock and will be dispatched shortly. They are looking into why all listings have been pulled on ebay.

      • +4

Yes all good. Nothing to worry about. There seems to be a glitch with our eBay store front which we’re working on.

But rest assured all the orders placed on this model will be supplied and shipped as per the deal. All the ones from last weeks deal have already be supplied.

        • +1

Is there more stock being put up? Still deciding whether to purchase

          • @cyrax83: Sorry not at this time

        • Perhaps with the recent $48K sales over a few days you became a power seller and eBay needs to do its thing….

        • Don’t think that’s a true statement. I haven’t received mine. Shipping tracking says it hasn’t been shipped yet and it was meant to be delivered yesterday.

          • +1

@boardercam: I looked into your order and it has already shipped and is in transit. Please check your ebay messages for more details.

If anyone else is having issues tracking your order please visit the DHL website directly and enter your consignment number provided on your ebay order:

            https://mysctrackandtrace.dhl.com/

Looks like ebay is having some issues updating the tracking info once shipped.

            • @takis: Thanks for the update. Yep can see it now. Being delivered Monday.
              Cheers.
