Great price I purchased a single pack for $450 through AMX on my trade account last year. Upgraded from a cheapo Ebay intercom that cost a fifth of the price, wish I had done it sooner. Excellent battery life, rode 12 hour + days without having to charge, easy to use while riding with the jog wheel. These units aren't classed as waterproof, however I have ridden through torrential rains/ storms, hours on end and when getting to my destination I have unclipped the unit and cleaned the water residue off both the mount and intercom terminals. It hasn't skipped a beat.

For anyone installing this unit with a helmet that has an internal sun visor (slide down and up), be careful of the braided cable affixed to the sliding mechanism when installing the Sena mount.

Note: 50S you can unclip from helmet mount, 50R has a fixed mount for people researching.

Edit: This is the updated Harmon Kardon speakers 2022 unit, you can also price match with a local AMX store (confirmed with my local Brisbane store)

Can confirm this is a really good unit.

  • Any recommendations for something a bit cheaper? Was thinking of having a go at the unit Aldi brings out once a year

I know its a bit pricey, but you definitely can't beat the value of the 50S at this price.

I haven't used an Aldi one, but Aldi has the beauty of a 30-day return policy if you don't like the item.

Alot of good feedback from groups on a SCS S-9: https://www.sharkleathers.com.au/scs-s9-bluetooth-intercom

The cheapo Ebay brand I used was Fodsports, I still have mine after a good 5-6 years (model is now unavailable). I had the odd issue where it would unpair for no reason, other than that it was fine. A mate got the same model so we could chat, had a tiny range of 200 metre's line of sight. His unit's battery failed pretty quickly. My mrs uses mine still when she sits on the back, pain to pair with any branded unit like Sena or Cardo. Battery life is random sometimes 2 hours- 6 hours.

Having a quick look on Ebay (https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p249933…). The FX8 model seems a lot better, have a browse through Youtube and watch some reviews.

Thanks mate! Only using my bike as transport at the moment so hard to take the plunge, even at this price as it's more than I got my helmet for 🫠

        • Completely understandable, those newer FX8 and FX8 Pro's have great youtube reviews.

          • @JoeJoog: Legend! Much appreciated

Where do you usually go to source good reviews etc? Youtube or any forum sites etc?

  • Any recommendations for a high-quality intercom with a built-in camera? A couple of years ago I bought some Maxto M3's so I could chat with my daughter when she's on the back, and ended up getting a couple more to gift to my dad and brother.

I find them reasonable for music when I'm on my own, but not quite good enough for audiobooks and podcasts that I would normally listen to in the car. I also find that at speeds above 90km/h it gets pretty hard to understand each other, and they're also a PITA to pair even just 2 units, let alone 4.

I love having the camera on there as a sort of insurance policy (I found it to be surprisingly good quality for ~$140), but I think I might be better off with a dedicated intercom plus front and rear fish-eye cameras…

    Any thoughts appreciated!! :)

    • Sorry mate I haven't dabbled in two in one systems, I always believed the position of having the recording aspect on the side of a helmet wouldn't be beneficial if an incident came from the other side of your vision.

Our instructor motorbikes are fitted with Ride Vision, https://ridevisionaustralia.com.au/pages/buy-now. Very good front and rear cameras, and inbuilt mirrors with LED warnings (better than most newer cars with sensors)- probably a bit too pricey for your needs. But they are an amazing concept with auto recording if the sensors detect someone being to close etc.

Back in the day I combined a cheaper older Go Pro on the chin of my helmet, and at different times depending on where I was travelling my cheapo Ebay intercom for around town or for highways, I used wireless buds.

In saying that I have been slack and haven't bothered to get a recording device for my daily riding helmet, hopefully this will heed as a warning to get a recording device- it's something every motorcyclist should invest in. Towards the end of last year, I was side swiped whilst in the left of two lanes with only my lane being the turning lane. A driver realised last minute they had to turn and literally veered into me with the front left of his vehicle (clipping my exhaust and rear tyre)- push came to shove and insurances believed the driver and his wife's matching statements that was obviously different to my statement, qualified instructor without any incidents or speeding fines in 15+ years. It was a hell of a slog, none of the facts or evidence I provided was even acknowledged. After talking to the law department of my insurer, I was told in court 2 identical witness statements would beat 1 statement, regardless of what actually happened- especially as a court room tends to look down on motorcyclists.

Being unhappy I went to where the incident happened with a push bike and my wife in her car, I reenacted the scene with a recording device on a tripod. I then put a lengthy explanation of myself walking through it, I was travelling through here @ roughly 20km/h while already turning- I was in the process of turning left with a clear solid line and gazetted triangle to my right. The driver veered into myself with the front left of his vehicle impacting myself here, I walked through it step by step. I was past the vehicle, they did not look, they did not indicate, they failed to give way and turned well after the road island triangle. I then took matching photos of where the vehicle was halted and bumper on the road and matched everything up with the original photos I took.

After a very long and frustrating process, my insurer took third party liability- I asked them if they would then chase up the driver and they said no as they had conceded liability in the first place. Annoyed me more that the driver got away scotch free.

  • Appreciate the detailed reply! Tough experience with the side-swipe, it's sad that some people can't just own up to their mistakes these days… Seems strange that they'd take 2 identical statements from within one vehicle, I always thought that 2nd statement counted for nothing unless it was from outside of the vehicle?

That Ride Vision kit looks interesting but probably not something I'm considering at the moment. Good deal though if the Pro kit is a couple hundred dollars cheaper than the lite version! I think I'll look into a good intercom and front and rear cameras without the bells and whistles.

Actually, the thing I really need to do first off is replace the rear shock to stop us wallowing around corners… :D
