Probably excess to most people's photography needs. However cheapest by a wide margin compared to other stores. Price match at Sony and let it stay in your cart for the lols.

I'm leaving it in my price matched cart on the Sony website. I keep getting told by Sony ambassadors that it should last longer or journalists etc. will get annoyed if they have to upgrade every few years. Make of it what you will.
It'll be good if you can take advantage of amex offers.
I think there's probably still a solid amount of time for it to stay on top of the Sony lineup. They are probably going to drip feed a A9 III first to get people to jump on to that and space out the A1 II release till a bit later to try and pump as much money as they can from both cameras lol
Not a fan of the lack of firmware updates on it though, even cameras like the A7 IV have some features over the A1.

Now there's something I never thought I'd see on a camera.
Nice camera but overpriced. Unless you need high end video, you can get similar photo quality from an A9 with AI resolution upscaling at a fraction of the price. I would only consider upgrading my A9 if the A1 was 5k or less
Terrible choice for video imo.
Solid price but it's 2 years old now and the new iteration may get announced soon.
