[NSW] 30% off Default Market Offer & No Increase in 2023 @ Globird Energy

2146

As per the title, GloBird currently seems to be the most competitive energy provider (at least in NSW) offering prices 30% lower than the reference price and guaranteeing NO Increase in 2023!

In addition to this, you can also get the following discounts:

  • Further 1% lower with 1% direct debit discount
  • Further 1% lower with 2% pay on time discount

Lastly, you could potentially also get the $50 credit upon joining, see deal here.

Note: The deal may be similar for other states as well but I can't attest so have marked it as NSW only.

Update: There have been reports from users that their rates are different when using a referral link compared to when checked on comparison website. If this applies to you, please ensure that you don't signup with higher rates and instead call up GloBird and ask them to apply the referral manually to their advertised rates. You will have to reach out to your referrer to get their account number etc so that GloBird can manually apply the referral.

PS. Please always check your welcome email as that should have the rates which applies to you. All the best :)

      • I think the question is not whether they'll go up, but rather by how much… It's a bit hard to compare until they all show their cards in August.

      • yeah was thinking of changing to Tango in Vic. Decent rates and 12 month lock in rat

  • I'm with AGL at NSW and have our pensioners and VIP and family and friends applied. Is it still cheaper than this?

    https://www.agl.com.au/-/media/aglmedia/documents/rates/vip-…

Also do they take your pension?

    Does 30% include mean this?
    https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au/results

    • They take your pension, but thankfully not all of it

      • what do you mean 'but'?

        • @PeeDee he is just joking. You will have to do your own research or give them a call.

  • 26% below the reference for me in QLD. Thanks OP.

  • OP, I do not think the info is correct in the description above. On their Website it says:
    28%
    Lower than Ref Price
Plus - Difference to the reference price with conditional discounts:
Further 1% lower with 1% direct debit discount
Further 1% lower with 2% pay on time discount

So a total 30% discount, not addition to 30%.

    Good find though. Thanks.

The BOOST plan is promoted as 30% off the reference price.

    • Thanks, just checked again and for my location Glosave is 30% + 2% additional and GloBoost is 31% off (no additional discounts offered).

28% you referring to is for a GreenLight plan! damn - so many to choose from!

Currently with Energy Australia coming off a fixed rate term.

The prices I've been given for my new rate are much lower than whats on the website due to the timing of the fixed rate ending.

Probably got extremely lucky with this.

    94c daily charge with 30c /kWh

Prices very comparable to globird in my area so will prob just stay where I am.

    • +1

have a chat with their retention team. I got a 14% discount to stay. I hadn't done too much looking around.

      • Yeah true I should try.

Because my prices are lower than the website and not even avail, theyl prob tell me im on the best prices already haha.

        • same with me. but mine got even cheaper. Took around 20mins of livechat whilst doing my normal work.
Just have your name, address, a/c details ready (keep them ready to paste in when you get xfered to the next person). Just say "I can get a better deal with <insert random retailer>, what can you do, as I'm happy to stay". Be nice, be patient.

          • @M00Cow: This was an extremely painful process for me haha..

Spoke to 2-3 different people, all giving me a "best discount" price that was higher than my July 11 prices…

For some reason, they couldn't understand that i will be getting a lower price than whats on the website…and that i needed a discount on the price I was given in my email (even with screenshots).

            • @amityaaron: So no luck? Hmm that's a bummer. Did you ask for the retentions team?

              • @M00Cow: Well the “discounts” they were giving me was based off the website price and not my actual price haha…so it was always more expensive.

Yep, spoke to 2 people on the team.

I might try again after tomorrow when my new rates kick in so it might be easier to view on their side

                • @amityaaron: I didn't get any joy from retentions chat previously either. 2% off was the best offer they gave. OP getting 14% is incredibly lucky.

              • +2

                @M00Cow: @xdigger @M00Cow

I just got an email that my prices are increasing 1st august haha.

                Bye bye Energy australia.

                • +1

@amityaaron: I got the same email… over 40c/kwh, which is a 33% increase. I've tried to talk to their retention teams, but they couldn't offer anything, so I've switched over to Globird now… at least I'll have a fixed price for the rest of 2023 which will be nice. I'm interested to see how much it will go up to in 2024.

A solar battery is looking more inviting now….

                  • +1

                    @bargainhunter9: Really?

Theres a comment on the latest page here of someone claiming they got energy australia to match and beat globird, even getting them to lock in 12 months.

Im going to try retention tomorrow and see what they can do, otherwise ill be going to globird as well.

Waited 2 hours to talk today (they said 20 mins), agent dropped the chat because i didnt reply in 3 mins..

Since this deal is marked as NSW, those in Ausgrid areas beware - Globird apply their own sh*t seasonal TOU tariff structure

You will get stung for extra Peak hours during the Winter months (like now) and then also get charged Peak tariffs for the entire block of non-Winter and non-Summer months

    • +1

I am in AusGrid area and have no idea what you are talking about as I have always paid what's advertised (at least for my property)!

      • Globird Energy charges peak rate on peak hour Mon - Fri year round, and normal winter peak start at 5pm, Globird sticks to summer peak, start at 2pm all year round, no seasonal adjustment.

Those honour suppliers only charge peak rate on Winter Peak (01 Jun - 31 Aug) and Summer Peak (01 Nov - 31 Mar) at peak hour, the other date the peak hour is charged at shoulder rate.

Here is TOU timetable from Energy Australia, and TOU timetable from Globird Energy, both referring to Ausgrid.

    • +1

Yeah some retailers annoyingly complicate things. Looks like Globird charges peak rates between 2-8pm although it should be 5-9 pm on Ausgrid.

    • Not sure the neg vote is backed up by the data.

The cheapest provider according to my Ausgrid meter data (available on request) and Energy Made Easy that uses the "correct" peak definition is Ovo. The extra cost in daily supply charges (110c/day vs 80.03c/day) and shoulder/offpeak rates (23.76c/kWh vs 20.81c/kWh) drowns out any discount obtained from having no peak charges for 4 months of the year.

It's a tariff structure that earns Globird more margins for a few hours each day, but the fact is that they are still one of, if not the cheapest provider on the market.

  • I singed up to their gas a couple months ago. They seem to bring out new rates every few weeks.

    • There’s something about their gas that makes you want to belt out a tune — I just hope the fumes are not dangerous in the long term. I suppose the low rates might also encourage some customers to dance, but I’ve seen no evidence of that so far

  • Did the maths against my current bill using AGLs new rates and globird rates, and although most elements are cheaper
CL was only slightly cheaper after discount, general use could be up to 27% cheaper, supply charge 11% cheaper. The difference in the solar feed from 11c at AGL vs 5c meant it is still cheaper for me to stay at AGL.

  • I have a lot of solar feed in (521kwh) last month, so powershop still work out cheaper for me.

  • Is this any good for solar? I have an oversized 10kw system (my home needs 3.6kw) and used to get the agl 22c fit. Each month I was exporting 1mwh.

Then got dropped to 8c fit, now I import 450kw, export 1200kw, and pay $70/mth.

    • @0.12$kWh on PS you would get $144 per month.
However the kWh tariff is high,so you probably will be out of pocket. You would have to check specific to your area/network. I have a battery so this limits my exposure to peak tariff

  • +1

FYI just prepare yourself for the price jacking. Mine was exactly on the 6 month mark, so likely to be the same if you sign up now.

    Daily Charge (/Day) 0.7469 to 0.7789 (4% increase)
    "Anytime Usage
    - Step 1: 0.00-20.00 kWh/Day (/kWh)" 0.2657 to 0.3937 (48% increase)
    "Anytime Usage
    - Balance (/kWh)" 0.2988 to 0.4375 (46% increase)

Side note: how do I go about confirming what kind of controlled load etc I have with my meters? Absolute noob with all this stuff

From what I gather, I have 3 phase power at my house as I have 3 meters for energy but i dont know any thing more than this.
My current plan I have the step usage split above.

    • On my bill from about 5 diff providers over the years it always says control load 1. No idea how to identify via the board though. Does your bill specify the control load?

      • Controlled load is likely your hot water, you knew that right?

  • Is it literally "Join Today" only?

    • No, the deal is still live today. I think the "Join today!" is just a generic term. I'm not sure when this deal will end, but I assume that it will run until near the end of 2023, since the price will essentially stay locked in until end of 2023 (according to the 'offer').

  • Which plan is the cheapest to choose

    • Probably GLOSAV

    • +1

Probably the one that costs the least

    • Best to click the "compare your bill" option, so you input your actual bill costs in.
I found the solar plan to be best for me, since I export a lot of solar, so it worked out better overall.

  • Not cheaper for me…. in NSW.

    • Which one is cheapest in NSW?

      • Its not that simple. It depends on who the supplier is and who the retailer is. Then it can even differ depending on what type of plan you need, controlled load, time of use, solar fit etc.

  • Is anyone jumping over after getting the $150 rebate from origin?

    • Yeah just waiting for referral code. Origin has not even billed me yet.

      • Same, was wondering if changing out of Origin will trigger the bill for the short period I was with them

        • Also interested in churning from origin but haven’t received my credit yet.

It states if you are a customer on July 1st you will get the credit, so surely if we leave now we should still get it?

          • @mightyboy: When you log in it should say in credit 150. For me at least. Anyone know what the peak/off peak times are for origin? R they same as ausgrid or different… Can't seem to find it anywhere on the origin website neither in the member area…

            • @jussie2000: My account balance still says zero.

              I’ve messaged them to enquire.

I’m not sure about peak and off peak. I think I just have a flat rate.

            • @jussie2000: Locate "$150.00 CR", look above until you see the "View plan" link.

  • My place is on 6 separate power meters (used to be separate appartments), and it's too costly to combine into one power meter.

Are all energy providers going to charge a "base" charge even if no electricity is used. Is this the 'supply charge'?

Anyone have creative ideas on saving money here?

    • +3

      Combine to one meter

    • +1

You have to consolidate or your will be reamed by six sets of daily charges,

    • Rent out 5 of the 6 apartments 😜

    • +1

Ask them if is is possible to consolidate under one NMI. They can treat the six meters as sub meters. Needs to be off the same transformer/incomer . Common in public buildings. They may ask you to upgrade meters so IDNK if this wins the guernsey

      • I like the sound of this idea. Who do i "ask" to do the combining of meters? And any ideas on what kind of "upgrade" they'd be asking for?

  • +2

Recently signed up in Feb 2023 and now after 6 months there is a "Energy Market Pricing Review", prices are up 40%.

If you sign up expect a massive increase in Jan 2024.

    • +4

So move on, find another incentive and go.
That's is what its all about these days. Take the incentives and keep moving

      • +1

Yep. Ive been hopping electricity even 6 weeks and gas every 3 months.

Getting incentives anywhere between $75 to $300 per hop.

Last financial year, incentives = close to 1.4k basically paid off energy bill.

That with PHI, over 3k incentives

        • What's PHI?

          • +1

            @virhlpool: Private health insurance.

Havent paid for it in the last 2 years +

And also got a free 44mm apple watch se 2023 last week lol

This financial year PHI incentives paid or claimed already close to 1.5k with dental appointment last week and its only been 2 weeks.

Also note that im also paying energy bills and PHI premiums with 10% discounted vanilla or coles mastercards.

    • hey mate. i got the exact same email. Just reply to that email that they sent and they basically reduced the increases dramatically.

their strategy appears to be designed to catch people out that do not notice.

      • What did you say? Did they reduce it for you?

        • +1

i told them that this price increase is completely ridiculous and exorbitant, especially because the prices they are offering new customers was much more competitive.

and that they better come back with a better price or I'm leaving.

in fact i had already initiated the transfer out just before they replied (so not sure if this had anything to do with it).

they came back with a price for electricity that was even better than the pre increase price but for gas the decrease was alot less (though i dont use much gas).

          • @wetfartz: That's great. Im going to do the same. Are you using electricity for heating? Im always using gas for central ducted heating and always wondering if it will be cheaper if i go split air conditioning for every room.

  • Vic has price reviews every 1 Aug, so as long as you can get a rate now that won't change at 1 Aug 2023 you should be OK to 1 Aug 2024.

HOWEVER, the Tango rates are currently fixed to 31 May 2024, which I think means that they can "review" from 1 June 2024 - BEFORE others review from 1 Aug 2024. So be careful with Tango. I am staying with Globird for now, though Tango may be a bit cheaper.

  • Just left Globird in SA, they hiked up their prices here

  • +1

Energy Australia, origin, agl are all around 10% off reference price, isn’t it a no brainer to move to globird if they are 30% off reference price? How can people be reporting they are still cheaper signing with the the first three?

AGL is the worst, only 5%

  • What’s the best for VIC?

  • i get this error "Unable to send private message: Overseas user" when trying to get a referral code. Is there an setting I need to change somewhere? I am definitely not overseas lol

  • +1

Signed up last week to GloSaver. Supply was 31c cheaper per day and rate was 12c cheaper per kWhr than EA. They guarantee the price until Feb 2024.

Don't like the monthly billing but you can direct debit to the credit card and there are no fees.

Seems like a good deal but like everyone is saying, I think that you have to keep on top of the price hikes.

EA were useless. I called up to see if they wanted to retain me as a long term customer and the best that they offered was $1.30 off over a year! I said goodbye.

    • I signed up for the same plan last week. Where do you find price guarantee till Feb 2024? I got only a (generic?) welcome pack saying price review is 1 Jan and 1 July each year.
I got a alert from Equifax on Globird credit check, something to think about on your credit history

  • +1

    Currently with Globird in NSW.

Got an email a few months (?) back about the price increase.

Can't compare my address or NMI. So used next door's address.

The rates advertised are considerably less than my new email rates.

This is obviously their strategy, sign people up and jack hoping that a large % couldn't be f#$ked reviewing the rates at a later stage.

Also I feel it's really devious to disable the ability to run a quote against your NMI or address for current customers. Someone has obviously come up with that request which has been implemented. I know they are scheming but why the games.

At least with car insurance when I run the quote, same address, same rego with my current insurer I get pretty much the exact same premium, even if I just use no rego and a different address in the same suburb. At least I know I'm not being 'played'.

Negging the deal so others know that this mob is a bit shifty and be prepared to dig deeper at the next rate review.

As others have pointed out, I'll try emailing and calling to get my plan moved or adjusted. If I can't, I'll flip and flip back.

  • 1c FIT? really?

    • (Not sure if this is for NSW only): there's a solar plan option, if you click the left/right arrows on the quote page. First 8kwh are at 15c and then the remainder is at 6c. Much better than EA's 10c/kwh.

  • In Vic the are putting my price up 25-30%. Will wait a few weeks for the price rises to settle then have a look at who is cheapest again.

    • Yep I'm waiting until August to tick over and then will do a complete review again

  • I’m on Ausgrid. Does Globird apply demand charges? They’re not shown when I get a quote, but they weren’t shown with Red Energy recently when I switched from Powershop, and then I received a rate notice that includes demand based charging. I emailed to challenge this and Red Energy said that they can offer a TOU rate with no demand charges but Ausgrid has to approve it. Currently waiting on outcome of approval. Demand charges seem to be a completely rip off.

    • What is demand charges? And what do they charge?

  • +2

Don’t forget to apply using the referral link to get $50 back.

  • Signed up two months ago and received an email with price increase making them more expensive than AGL who I left originally. Time to switch provider.

  • +1

Did a quote on Globird website and got these rates. Looks cheaper than AGL.
    Daily Charge
    $/Day 0.82500 0.80020
    Peak usage
    $/kWh 0.35200 0.34140
    Off peak usage
    $/kWh 0.23320 0.22620
    Shoulder usage
    $/kWh 0.23320 0.22620
    Standard Solar Feed in
    $/kWh 0.05000 0.05000
    Metering Charge
    $/Day 0.00000 0.00000

Do you know if it costs anything to switch? On the energymadeeasy website it says the Glosave plan has a move in / new connection fee of $38…

    • +3

I personally have never paid to switch and my understanding is that if your address is already connected to electricity (which more likely it is) then there will be no move-in/connection fee but for your peace, probably check directly with GloBird first before moving.

      • Ok thank you

    • +2

The Move In fee is if you were connecting to a new home i.e. you are moving in. It doesn't cost anything to switch.

      • Thanks for sharing

  • I recently swapped out, from VIC. I liked their solar plus plan which has been been discontinued. As high of a solar feed in as possible is important to me as I don't use much and generate a fair bit. I've swapped to OVO after using the Victorian government energy compare site. Feel free to PM me for a referral code if it end up swapping too.

    • how is your experience with Ovo so far? Inability to get through to their sales OR support even to sign up is quite worrying!
