Is it worth more than the SD-R2530 for $248

I'm not sure. I'm a bit of a Breville fanboy at the moment, so I was only looking for brevilles haha. And I don't like the white colour. But for others, that might be great.

IDK about this particular machine, but Panasonic bread makers have that renown of being great and last long. Waiting to see the comments of people who can compare.

        I’ve got the 2530 and it’s fantastic

      • I think Panasonic and Breville are the top two brands. When I was last researching I came down to these two, and ended up going with this particular machine (can't remember why…loaf shape? sale?).

Makes good bread anyway. Maybe something cheaper would too.

Definitely go Panasonic. Their bread machines have been rock solid for decades. And that's a good price.

    • No, the panasonic is an excellent bread maker!

Be mindful to check FB marketplace or op shops for breadmakers. Most people buy them, use them 3 times, then they get put aside and eventually gotten rid of.

I've seen these in op shops in great condition for $20.

    • This is true…our last was a Breville, cost $20 used, and made hundreds of loaves. Only replaced it because eventually the kneading assembly wears out, and it seemed too expensive to replace (and hard to get anyway).

  • I have a Kmart one. Does the job!

  • we've got this and had it for over a year, wife makes 1-2 loaves a week. Loves it.
Good price. Think we paid $400

  • I was very close to buying the basic model at Betta Home Living, for $199, but I had a look inside, and it was very small, so then I figured I'd get this larger model online instead. I kinda wish breadmakers were more rectangualr though, rather than square. So the loaf ends up more like bought loaves.

My one went bang under warranty took 3 weeks to get replaced & then went bang again out of warranty & cost to much to repair so we brought the Panasonic Sd250 never looked back perfect every time .

I would recommend checking your local FB marketplace or Gumtree - there's usually a few being sold for significantly less than new.

Ours gets used a few times a week, and being able to set a timer and have it cook in the small hours of the morning, allowing us to wake up to the smell of baked bread - amazing!

  • The Breville never baked the top of the loaves.
It was better that you can customise the settings, kneading times, proofing times etc compared to Panasonic.

Overall, great for pizza dough, bread rolls and dough in general. Not good for bread.

    • Our panasonic can make great bread, but it is used most often for making dough. As in, very very often.

      • I do the same. Make dough then use a brod and Taylor folding proofer and bake in the oven.
You could also use a KitchenAid / Kenwood for mixing for larger batches. I do this often.
I use an actual bread tin these days to make 3 loaves at once.

I have 2 Panasonic sd2501 as I picked one up new for $30 from marketplace. I've never made Jam in them. Making pizza dough, I'll use the bread machine.

'simply use a $400 proofing box'

          • @jjcf: They were only $170 back in the day haha inflation and hype. I imported from the UK.
            I'm a baker by trade.
Even a bread tin is $100 these days with lid

            • @[Deactivated]: My wife does all the bread baking. Been looking for a better proofing solution for her ($399 put me off a bit). Do you reckon those foldable boxes are good? It's seems it's either that, or a massive commercial proofing cabinet!

  • I do not know why, the non stick comes off very easily. hazard. I end up using for making dough only rather than baking.

    • If it becomes sticky, maybe try spraying the sides with oil just before it starts cooking

Why even have an oven when you can have a cupboard full of junk appliances?

    • Nah, this is not comparable.

You put water and bread mix in it, you take a loaf of bread out. Oven does only one step of that process.

How (profanity) hard is mixing flour, water, yeast and salt?

    • +1

Actually rather difficult and time consuming. It won't rise well unless you knead it for like 10-15mins. And you're supposed to let it sit for a while to rise, between each step of mixing, kneading and cooking. It's at least 30mins of labour with long pauses in between so you have to keep going back to it. The machine does all that for you.
And it has time delay, so you can load in the ingredients, tell it to start in 6 hours, go to bed, and wake up with a fresh cooked loaf.

      • Can it do french bagettes? Lol the labour on that is over a huuugggeee time 🤣

    • +2

Pretty hard tbh. Also I have no bench space left to do it on due to it being full of appliances
