600:1this is an Acer low low end spec. screen… Acer bumps their gamut up to 72% on higher end models and even that's shit
brightness i dont care too much and 120hz is going to look great but the colors are going to be terrible
You mean Dell right?
i mean Acer type
acer are famous for this kind of shit
Manufacturers are finally ditching 1366x768 and giving us 250nits brightness instead. Seems most of the budget offerings have this now sadly.
the god of budget laptops always demands a sacrifice - Screen, chip or RAM.
They’ve always been 250 nits or less. Now they’re just putting it on the spec sheet. Along with the abysmal colour gamut.
Why the down vote?
Which one would you recommend for budget under 1k?
Maybe wait for a decent Intel Nuc M15 deal with nice bright screen and decent specs all round.
Problem is my current laptop is not working so need one within a week or so.
@softkun123: Sure. Could get a cheap 14" Chromebook to see you through if you don't need full Windows/Microsoft programs, you will be surprised how well they work with lower spec. Then wait for a nice M15 deal to come around?
Oh, the Intel NUC M15 is solid hardware — I bought one — but like all Intel evo laptops, the drivers are rubbish. It took Intel months to fix presence detection, and there's a longstanding issue with the microphone array not amplifying sound to hearable levels.

Their driver update and delivery process is especially poor. But, if you don't need a microphone, this laptop could be right for you.
Would a Surface 3 do the job?
No good for gaming? Looking for a gaming Laptop under $1k or I just wait till the ROG Ally gets it’s issues fixed up
Doesn't have a dedicated gpu, so will be very, very low end. Esports on minimal settings at best.
Ok thanks
If you want an actual indication of gaming performance of the 5700u iGPU you can refer to this review of 17 games and make up your own mind. Unfortunately some people just say things without any proof.
@shellshocked: Thanks
HDMI 1.4 and 1x1 wifi are a problem.
Would 1x1 wifi be ok for general web browsing and streaming?
802.11a from 1999 would be fine for general web browsing and streaming
You'll get covered issues, potential dropouts and reduced throughput. It's an odd choice for laptop manufacturers since cost saving is so small.
good deal
I have a cheaper Inspiron with 250nits. 250 means you can barreeely see the screen when outside during the day or next to a sunny window. This would be for indoor work, only. No cafe/foodcourt/etc work times.
was considering the LG Ultra PC16 from this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/782197#comment-13973866
but this one seems to be better in every aspect. just worried if im missing something here?
The LG processor is 2 generations newer (7th gen), while this is 5th gen. I did read something about 7th gen having significantly better igpu/onboard graphics, but to be honest my reading was very superficial may have been refering to the 7th gen ryzen 7.
Op of the LG deal mentions the LG has a second NVME slot which would be nice for expanding storage as 256gb is a little low… but with 512gb on the DELL you may not be bothered expanding.
With each budget option is suppose there is some tradeoffs, hopefully ive helped alteast a little.
thanks for the explanation, appreciate your time. i saw ryzen 7 vs ryzen 5 and just assumed the 7 would be better but your response has got me diving a bit deeper into it now cheers
Both are trash for gaming and a $800 intel laptop with a GTX1650 DDR6 4GB is so much faster at gaming
I got one of those…. Dedicated GPU is still way faster due to the memory bandwidth of GDDR6, GDDR6x
Pretty dim screen. After shopping for work laptops the screen quality makes a huge difference and is the major cost differential these days.
Also 720p webcam eek
